Peter Singer Abortion Rhetorical Analysis

...countries of Africa and Latin America, women and men are not as educated on sex as some American countries. This leads to 32 abortions per 1,000 women in Latin America and 29 in Africa. This is comparable to only 11 in the United States (Singer). He states that abortion is a hot topic in the United States, however, in the underdeveloped countries it seems to be an after thought. He also uses this opportunity to point out flaws in the pro-life argument against abortion. Singer addresses the fact that most pro-life people believe a human life starts at conception. He claims that a mere Homo sapiens life should not be entitled to the same rights that a living, breathing woman is entitled to. He wraps up his argument in saying pro-life people would spend all day picketing at an abortion clinic but turn a blind eye to slaughterhouses....

...and public sector. “Mexico provides a uniquely generous market structure where you have the institutional sector, the private out-of- pocket segment of the market, and then you have the new up-and-coming popular insurance systems that will cater to those who have very little access to medical care, if they have access at all. So in that regard, I think the industry has to realign itself to make sure that it is able to provide adequate services to the institutional sector; provide broadened access to the out-of-pocket consumer, and obviously realign to be competitive in the Seguro Popular concept.” Mexico is no exception to the global trend of companies moving towards branded generics, a successfully growing sector in a very much brand-driven Mexican society. Bertrand Baron, general director of Sanofi Mexico, is confident that Sanofi’s global strategy of diversification fits well with the current climate in Mexico. “I believe that Sanofi in Mexico is a perfect example of what we are as a diversified healthcare player because here we are playing in all the markets: human vaccines, consumer healthcare, biotech, rare diseases, innovative products, generics, and soon we will be in eye care.” Sanofi acquired Mexican laboratory Kendrick in 2009, and last year bought Medley, the Brazilian branded generics company that currently sits at...

The article read: On a sidewalk in San Pedro Sula, Honduras ... a lanky, dark-haired boy [is] sitting w i t h arms curled around his folded legs, staring at the passing traffic. The boy, a nineteenyear-old named Marvin, has been sniffing glue for ten years. Once the leader of a gang of street kids, he now has slurred speech and vacant eyes. Human Rights In Latin America Essay

...Essay 2 In a social revolution, the main goal may be securing more human rights, but how are human rights defined? Since there is no clear cut definition for these rights throughout history, it can be hard to say when they are violated or when they are respected. Human rights may be defined differently by people from different backgrounds, different classes, different countries, or even in different revolutions. Latin America in particular has faced numerous social revolutions, as well as military dictatorships, so the issue of human rights is a highly important topic in the region. Human rights in Latin America, however, seem to have different definitions based on the historical times, as evident through the eyes of Emiliano Zapata in the time of the Mexican Revolution, Julián the Turk in the time of Argentina’s Dirty War, and a female...

Biography of a Map

...Biography of a Map Maps are meant to relay information precisely and accurately. The maker of a map takes great time and care in ensuring the information is understandable. Great care is taken in the gathering of facts and statistics to accurately represent the information. With such time and effort, it is still very difficult for a map to give the reader all the information on a particular subject. Maps are wonderful for telling a story and for giving a visual representation of the world around us. Still the reader of a map must keep a critical eye to ensure a map is not being used for propaganda, misleading information for a particular political agenda, or just simply inaccurate. There are hundreds if not thousands of religious faiths in the world today. However, most can be broken down into a few major categories: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and Hinduism. Below are how those faiths are spread out over the world as of 2012. In general, this map is good over all. It may confirm a person’s overall thought of the faith of countries around the world. It may also correct a few places they were wrong about. A map like this usually has a fifty percent rule for determining majority for such wide categories. Yet there are still a few problems with this particular map. One it assumes the reader knows the name of the countries and continents they are looking at. It would be reasonable to think that the reader has a basic grasp on world geography, but for someone who...

Giants in Cosmetics

...To L'Oréal, Brazil's Women Need New Style of Shopping By CHRISTINA PASSARIELLO (See Correction & Amplification below .) RIO DE JANEIRO—Brazilian women are among the biggest spenders on beauty products anywhere. But the world's largest cosmetics company, L'Oréal SA, has faltered in Brazil. The reason: Brazilian women from the banks of the Amazon to Sao Paulo's slums and the affluent beach communities of Rio de Janeiro have traditionally bought their skin creams and mascaras from door-to-door sales representatives, not the shops where L'Oréal sells its brands. Cosmetics giant L'Oreal is trying to change the way Brazilian women buy makeup. WSJ's Christina Passariello reports from Rio De Janeiro. The French company won't use the direct-sales approach, but the company has adopted a strategy that takes a page from it: introducing personal beauty advisers at department stores. L'Oréal also plans to offer a new line of lightening creams at pharmacies. "Our big bet here is to create a makeup business in retail from scratch," said Jean-Paul Agon, L'Oréal chief executive, as he picked up a tube of Maybelline mascara, one of his company's many brands, in a Lojas Americanas department store in a middle-class Rio neighborhood. "The more the market develops, the less relevant direct sales will be." For L'Oréal, winning over Brazilian women is crucial if it is to meet its goal of adding one billion consumers—a doubling of its current clientele—over the next decade. L'Oréal currently...

Theodore Roosevelt Strengths And Weaknesses

...are doing something when possible. I admire this trait because it shows that Roosevelt cared about the team succeeding and not just himself. Roosevelt always put the welfare of his team at the forefront of his agenda. He had no problem fighting the bureaucracy when it came to getting his troops the things they needed. “When his regiment returned to Long Island, Roosevelt declined the offer that would have allowed him—but not those under his command—to leave camp and visit his nearby home and family” (Stock, 2012). This is a strength that I think both Roosevelt and I share. I admire this strength because as a leader you have to be selfless to a certain extent. Although it is important to put yourself as a top priority, showing that you care about your people is essential to them wanting to follow you. As a lieutenant, I will make their needs a priority and over privilege myself. Roosevelt also realized that mistakes were inevitable and that sometimes it was best to forgive. Leadership involves so many decisions and it isn’t uncommon for mistakes to be made. Roosevelt realized the reality of this. He was able to accept, learn and then move on from his mistakes. He was also forgiving with his own people. “In one memorable incident, Roosevelt unilaterally freed a Rough Rider court-martialed for violation of camp regulations” (Stock, 2012). It is essential to someone’s growth to be forgiven. As a leader, I will recognize when not forgiving someone can do more harm than good...
