Tips for Eyelash Extension Safety
Many people are wondering if eyelash extensions are safe? For the most part they are absolutely safe. Of course, there are some safety risks conceivable if the application is not done properly by an educated and trained eyelash extension professional.
Bacterial Infections
There is always a risk of bacterial infection as clients will be coming into close contact with the technician and the instruments used for the extensions. Lash extension professionals must provide a sanitized treatment area. This includes the lash stylist’s hands, instruments used, extension supplies, and the treatment locale. With proper disinfection and sanitization procedures, both before and after the lash extension procedure, the risk of bacterial infections to the client can be greatly reduced. A lash extension stylist should:
• Wash hands and wear gloves at all times
• Sanitize all instruments
• Place lashes only on non-porous, disinfected surfaces
Adhesive Safety Concerns

Lash extensions are not appropriate for any client who reports being allergic to nail or surgical glue. Many experts do not recommend lash extensions for clients who are demonstrating allergy symptoms from seasonal changes. Some salons require clients to come in a day, or so, ahead of the lash extension procedure to do a skin allergy test to ascertain if there is any allergic response. Other salons will do a skin allergy test with an adhesive for at least an hour or two to determine if there is any type of reaction. Allergy screening is a priority for lash extension professionals to ensure the safety of their clients. Clients should be informed of the screening, and both Intake and Consent Forms should be signed before the procedure
