...reported on the prevalence of fetal alcohol syndrome ( FAS) , alcohol-related birth defects ( ARBD) , and alcohol-related neurodevelopmental disorders (ARND) . The three main types of research methods used in these studies are passive surveillance, clinic-based studies, and active case ascertainment. This article describes each of these methods, including their strengths and weaknesses, and summarizes the estimated prevalence of FAS produced by each of these approaches. The maternal risk factors associated with FAS and other alcohol-related anomalies include advanced maternal age, low socioeconomic status, frequent binge drinking, family and friends with drinking problems, and poor social and psychological indicators. Overall, the available literature points to a prevalence rate of FAS of 0.5 to 2 cases per 1,000 births in the United States during the 1980s and 1990s. ...the simplest function of AND, OR, ADD (addition), and SUB (subtraction). The ALU operates in a 3-stage pipeline. All logic functions such as AND, OR, and SUM (summation) can be executed within a single stage of the pipeline. In order to achieve the high-speed operation of the ALU, we proposed and designed a novel 3-input XOR gate, which can operate in only one logic stage. Our simulation study showed that all components of the ALU can operate up to 50 GHz. These ALU components were fabricated and tested at low speed. Large bias margins of more than 37% were achieved. The designed ALU’s were laid out and fabricated with Nb process. The ALU occupied the area of 1200 m 2600 m, which contains 560 Josephson junctions (JJ’s). Index Terms—Arithmetic logic unit, full adder, Josephson junction, single flux quantum device. I. INTRODUCTION LTRA high-speed processors will be needed in various fields, such as a new generation computer and/or data communication system in the near future. Semiconductor processors have been developed with Very Large Scale Integrated circuit (VLSI) technology where a huge number of transistors can be fabricated on a single chip. They, however, have a serious problem of increasing power consumption on improving their operation speed. This problem will be solved by developing superconducting processors having the feature of high-speed operation with low-power-consumption. Superconducting Single Flux Quantum (SFQ) circuits have been...

Working capital management (WCM) is the management of short-term financing requirements of a firm which includes maintaining optimum balance of working capital components – receivables, inventory and payables – and using the cash efficiently for day-to-day operations. The main objectives of this study are to examine and evaluate the working capital management in ACC Limited, examine the management pattern of inventory, liquidity, cash position and receivables management. This also finds the relationship between Working Capital Efficiency and Profitability, Profitability and Market ratios. Keywords Working Capital, Liquidity, Profitability, Market ratios, Inventory I. ...i50 Ann Rheum Dis 2000;59(suppl I):i50–i53 The pre-ligand binding assembly domain: a potential target of inhibition of tumour necrosis factor receptor function Francis Ka-Ming Chan Building 10, Room 11N311, Laboratory of Immunology, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD 20892–1892, USA Correspondence to: Dr Chan (fchan@nih.gov) Abstract Signalling by the tumour necrosis factor receptors (TNFR) is thought to be mediated by the binding of the trimeric ligand TNF to three monomeric subunits of the receptor. This ligand induced trimerisation model of TNFR signalling is mainly supported by crystallographic data of the p60 TNFR-1 and TNF complex in which the trimeric ligand interdigitates between the individual receptor chains and prevents the receptor subunits from interacting with each other. Recently, a domain NH2terminal to the ligand binding domain in the extracellular region of p60 TNFR-1, p80 TNFR-2 and Fas was identified that mediates receptor self association before ligand binding. This pre-ligand binding assembly domain or PLAD is critical for assembly of functional receptor complexes on the cell surface and may provide a potential target in the design of future novel therapeutics against diseases mediated by members of the TNFR family of receptors. (Ann Rheum Dis 2000;59(suppl I):i50–i53) Tumour necrosis factor (TNF) is a cytokine that plays an important regulatory part in both healthy and diseased...

...child is involved, mother or child? Can an unborn child be protected from his/her mother? Fetal Alcohol Syndrome [FAS] raises these questions that so far, have not been addressed. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is considered to be the most serious consequence of a mother drinking alcohol during pregnancy and is considered the #1 cause of mental retardation in the United States, and it is one that is entirely preventable. FAS was first reported in France in 1968 and noticed/discussed in the United States by Jones and Smith in 1973. Jones and Smith would identify distinctive facial features in children who were exposed to alcohol during pregnancy. Some of these facial features are: short eyelid openings, flat midface, thin upper lip and a flat or smooth grove between nose and upper lip. The children can also show growth retardation and significant cognitive and/or behavioral problems/issues. In the United States, FAS/Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder [FASD] occurs in about 10 per 1,000 live births or 40,000 babies per year. FAS is a lifelong condition that is not curable and has serious lifelong consequences. Unfortunately, there is no known limit on the amount of alcohol a mother can safely consume, that will not cause damage to her unborn child and it is stated that alcohol causes more damage than illegal or legal drugs. So far it has been estimated that FAS costs the American economy approximately $321 million a year. Based on all research, this particular disease/disorder...

...citronsyre.
