...taking the time to wash their hands properly? Most people are unaware of the importance of washing their hands. Many infectious diseases are spread through direct or indirect contact. During my studies as an Emergency Medical Technician I learned the true importance of always washing your hands properly. Keeping your hands clean can prevent the chance of spreading diseases. According to a study conducted by the American Society of Microbiology, most people do not wash their hands as often as they say they do. This study found that 97 percent of females and 92 percent of males say that they wash their hand regularly. However, only 75 percent of females and 58 percent of males are actually washing their hands as much as they should. Just because you can’t see germs, it does not mean they are not there. Bacteria and viruses are microscopic organisms that can be transmitted via your hands. Germs can be passed through direct or indirect contact. Direct contact is inhaling someone else’s illness through their coughs and sneezes. Indirect contact occurs when you touch a germy surface like a door handle and then touch your nose, eyes, mouth, or someone else’s hands. Viruses can live on hard surfaces for days, to even weeks just waiting to be touched and spread. One of the most common viruses that can be transmitted by not washing your hands properly are the Noroviruses. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that each year more than 20 million cases of acute gastroenteritis...

...Gmelina seeds (Gmelina arborea) as Potential Source of Biofuel Diane Claire Q. Bragais Jeanne Isabelle B. Bilasano Jessa C. Buendia Researchers Mr. Ronaldo C. Reyes Adviser Tabaco National High School Tabaco City INTRODUCTION We rely on coal, oil and gas (the fossil fuels) for over 80% of our current energy needs and by 2030, global energy consumption is projected to grow by 36% and demand for liquid transport fuels will have risen by some 16 million barrels more a day. With the world’s population projected to reach 8.3 billion by then, an additional 1.3 billion people will need energy. (BP Outlook, 2013) The Philippines, which has a population of over 94 million, has three million households which lack access to electricity. Some provinces only have electricity for several hours each day, while countless households on the country's more remote islands still rely on diesel-powered generators. Energy rates in the country remain among the highest in Asia, placing a heavy burden on the 26 percent of the population that lives below the poverty line. (Santos, 2013). These facts prove that energy crisis is indeed one of the serious issues that the world is facing now. As the world struggle with a growing demand for energy, government agencies and private groups say the answer to these power needs may lie in alternative sources. This is where biofuels can help; in the next two decades, biofuels are expected to provide some 20% (by energy) of the growth in fuel...

...As people age, they can face more difficulties in caring for themselves, therefore they need help with washing, dressing, eating ,drinking and walking. When we look at James’s case study we can see that this client lost his vision and he needs daily support with personal hygiene. Every morning James needs assistance in washing and dressing. We should ask him if he wants a bed bath, a shower or bath to give him a choice. Washing and bathing is an intimate procedure so it is very important to remember about privacy and person’s dignity. The client can feel embarrassed, helpless, resistant or even aggressive. We have to always give him a choice and independence if it is possible. ...for not simply ravaging it with strange chemicals-and your wallet will probably thank you too. 1. Apply some apple cider vinegar Apple cider vinegar is a powerhouse when it comes to acting as an acne remedy. Why? It kills off the bacteria that may be causing all the trouble in the first place. It also becomes alkaline, and balances the pH of your skin, which in turn makes it harder for bacteria to thrive. To top it off it’s an astringent, like lemon juice, and will help dry up excess oil. Keeping that in mind, don’t overdo and dry out your skin too much. This could cause the sebaceous glands overproduce to compensate, therefore triggering an outbreak. You will need… -Pure unfiltered apple cider vinegar -Fresh water Directions Wash your face with water and pat dry. Using a ratio of 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water, dip a cotton ball...

...LIFEBUOY CASE STUDY PROPOSAL BY MOHAMMED BALAWAL ARIF MOHAMMED ALI GILL AFIFA SHAMIM LSE Lifebuoy has been a germ killing soap since its inception and a key issue, which needs to be discussed, is its matters relating to Pakistan. In Pakistan, the rate of child mortality due to diarrhea and other diseases is considerably high and almost all of this can be attributed to hygiene. In fact, the hygiene industry owing to these factors has become immensely competitive. The matter in hand focuses on how to develop an engagement platform for children to connect better with the school program. Now the question a person may ask is why target children? It is observed that the people most affected by the diarrhea and other fatal diseases are children. On top of this the awareness level of these diseases in Pakistan especially in the rural areas is quite low. The following plan will focus on the aspect of sustainability whilst ensuring maximum possible consumer exposure and awareness. Our plan is built upon the key premises highlighted in the case study, and the plan will be elaborated on the basis of that. 1). THE IDEA When we were given this case study the first thing that came to mind was to establish a consumer profile. Our target audience would of course be children as well as mothers as a mother would always want to do the best for her child. Our targets would be primarily schools as well as households giving particular focus on rural areas. The basic premise...

...This case is about the brand Dove, a successful brand for last 40 year. In 1957 it was positioned as the beauty bar. So in which business they Dove is in? It is beauty. So how do we define beauty? Beauty can be described as natural, pure, clean, fresh, aspiration, dream etc. It is difficult to define beauty, so it is more difficult to describe real beauty. The present case scenario is of 2007 where Unilever wants to reduce its 1600 brands to 400 brands and Dove would be one of the master brands. Dove has launched its “Real Beauty” campaign. At this point of time it has positioned as number one cleansing brand, with sales of $2.5 billion and presence in 80 countries. It started with a product beauty bar and now extended to body wash, face care, hair care, deodorants, anti- perspirants and body lotion. Huge investment is done for the brand promotion in advertisements, films, campaigns, events etc. The purpose of these campaigns could be that it wants to move to real beauty from cleansing agent. But before, one should know the core identity and extended identity of Dove, and does it need to be changed with time. Dove 1957 Dove 2007 BM Case Write Up Dove: Evolution of Brand EI CI CI EI Basically Dove is known for moisturizing the skin. The customer value proposition is the non dry skin, which has given it a unique position in the market. They have never called themselves as soap; it is always as a beauty bar. But beauty is not its core identity, it could be the EI....

...English 102 10 June 2010 Contamination OCD and Our Health Contamination obsessive-compulsive disorder can be the most unnecessary and most annoying disorder out there. Consider the feeling of constantly tracing the history of germ contents for everything you touch. It’s nearly impossible, but enough to drive a person crazy. Dealing with contamination OCD myself, I am a self-proclaimed “germ-a-phobe” or “germ-freak,” but living in fear of germs is not what I always dreamed of. Anxiety is an understatement in regards to never touching the TV remote control just because I don’t know who touched it last and what they’ve touched last, or letting everyone believe I’m unfriendly just to avoid a high-five, even though I do carry hand sanitizer with me. These are unnecessary and irrelevant thoughts to anything worthwhile, but somehow they aren’t as easy to get rid of as you might think. Contamination OCD can cause so much fear and anxiety in a person’s life, but what is it that actually jump starts this seemingly endless annoyance? Should the rest of the world consider our thoughts on the fact that maybe germs are dangerous or is it the disinfectants that are really causing us harm? Even though disinfectants pose such a dangerous threat to our health due to toxins in them, those living with contamination OCD still can’t seem to accept that fact and put down the cleaners in fear of being contaminated by germs because of the habits and rituals that have taken over in our minds and...
