1. The main three general environmental factors to be considered for this industry are demographic, economic and socio-cultural. Effects for these factors are positive, negative, and positive respectively. In social media industry demographic factor is positive, because Facebook is free social networking site that allows users from age of 13 to any age to use it. Also, Facebook allows users to continuously stay in touch with friends, relatives and other acquaintances wherever they are in the world.
2. Five forces in social media industries are threat of new entrants (low) because Facebook is the biggest social networking site with one billion active users per month. Threat of substitute (moderate) due to other countries has their own social network sites such as Germany has Wer-kent-wen and Google is one of their biggest competitors. Bargaining power of customer is high, because users and advertisers are biggest customer in social media industry. Bargaining power of suppliers is high because users are also the “suppliers” due to the fact amount of information users provide to facebook. The competition rivalry on social networking market is low as ther is no social networking site with over a billion users on monthly base. Industry is definitely attractive for new entrants; however, it’d be really hard for new entrants to break though successful companies like Google and Facebook. If anything new entrants would be bought out by them before they go viral.
3. Google plus and LinkedIn are facebook’s two major competitors. Google’s video calling services like Google hangout can attracts more users by allowing video communication over cell phone and desktops. Google’s competing with facebook at many levels from social networking to advertising. Yet, Google’s future goal is to compete for advertising budget of other companies. On the other hand, LinkedIn is working on

Strategic Marketing Managment

...STRATEGIC MARKETING MANAGMENT BUSI 520 TASK: Individual Submission Week 3 CULTURAL FACTORS DEFINED Cultural factors have a major influence in what merchandise consumers purchases. In order to understand this clearer, one needs to take a closer look at the definition of culture. According to Kotler and Keller (2012), “Culture is the fundamental determinant of a person’s wants and behavior”. In other words, culture is the deciding factor that guides the choices of the consumer. One product which many consumers purchase is the iPad. Sales, of this advanced version of a tablet computer, are steadily increasing. According to Bray, Palazzolo and Sherr from (2013), the iPhone and iPad are in fact the two top selling products of the Apple company. The iPad, just before its unveiling, was surrounded by so much enthusiasm. As stated by Furfie(2010), “The Wall Street Journal joked that ‘the last time there was this much excitement about a tablet, it had some commandments written on it’”. As funny as this may sound, other tablets don’t come close to competing with this product. The iPad has a stake in our culture and it is here to stay! An astute observer may ask, why do so many consumers gravitate towards iPad as opposed to another similar product in the marketplace today? Furthermore, the enthusiasm and general demand for the iPad seems to overshadow the competitor’s products. Kotler and Keller conclude that the geographic region has a direct influence on the products available...

Data Management for the Internet of Things

...Data Managment During the course of an ordinary work day I took it upon myself to record all of the instances in which I was required to produce any amount of personalized electronic data. The list not only astounded me, but frightened me as well. My day started at six in the morning with a swipe of my electronic key card at my gym. The data in the key card is attached to my social security number, phone number, address, birthdate, and credit card. On my way home I stopped at a coffee shop and paid with a debit card thereby producing another record of my location at an exact time and date. At home while getting ready for work, I logged into a podcast of my favorite National Public Radio show. My login information is connected to a credit card and all of my personal demographics. The time stamp I left while streaming online radio will most likely be saved on a massive server, available for recall for years on end. As disturbing as this seems, this is only the beginning, as my day to day job requires constant surveillance, both by proximity card, audio and video surveillance. Most people can tell you that if you desire privacy at your workplace, do not pursuit a career in corrections. In one eight hour day, my proximity card, which links to my personnel record, is recorded over fifty times a day. In order to enter or exit any door or hallway, one must swipe their proximity card, which logs the activity into a massive database that is backed up into a cloud server on...

Employee Engagement

...Employee Engagement Hye Chong Yi (260446951) McGill University CORG 555, Winter 2011 Professor Sema Burney 3 March 2011 “em·ploy·ee (-noun): a person working for another person or a business firm for pay. en·gage (-verb): to occupy the attention or efforts of (a person or persons). en·gage·ment (-noun): the act of engaging or the state of being engaged.” -Dictionary.com (2011) Introduction Employee. Engagement. Separately, each word has a clear, concise definition. Their descriptions are easy to grasp. However, once you put the words together the concept of employee engagement is complex because there are many variations on its definitions and dynamics that contribute to engagement. “To date, there is no single and generally accepted definition for the term employee engagement (Markos & Sridevi, 2010, p.90).” The difficulty of pinpointing an exact definition lies in the fact that employee engagement does not have the same meaning for everyone (Blessing White, 2011). The goal of this paper is to provide a general discussion of its definition, history, current state, future trends, and close the discussion with a conclusion. Employee Engagement: Definition Generally speaking, employee engagement is the concept of an employee that is fully invested emotionally, intellectually, and socially into their work, company, and colleagues (Markos & Sridevi, 2010). “Engagement is about passion and commitment-the...
