Planning a renovation for a specialty clinic is a very detailed experience. The renovations will be expected to last for up to 10 years so it is important to plan for future needs. It is important to plan for the future needs of the community but to avoid over building. Over building will result in a loss of returns for the clinic. The specialty clinic at Prairie Lakes Hospital has two doctors a urologist and a nephrologist. Last week a second urologist has signed a contract to start work at the clinic in April. It is has now become necessary to renovate the existing clinic.
Prairie Lakes Hospital is a health care system that serves nine counties in the northeastern region of South Dakota. Prairie Lakes Hospital was established in 1986 as a direct result of the combining of two different area Hospitals (Prairie lake hospital, 2013) . The area us very rural and has a large aging population that has needs for urology and nephrology. The specialty clinic is has been seeing patents for the last four years. Dr. Adduci, urologist, was the first physician then Dr. Millanson, nephrologist, came soon after (Prairie lake hospital, 2013). They clinic is currently struggling to keep up with the demand and paperwork associated. There is not enough room for any additional staff to complete charts before and after clinic. Currently staff has to stay after hours to finish charts and start the next day’s charts. By paying for the additional overtime the hospital is not using its revenue effectively. The current urology physician is booking out for 6 months. The schedule is so full it has caused patients who are in critical need to seek medical care outside of the community causing a loss in patients as they transfer care to a different clinic in a town 80 miles away. This is also an inconvenience for patients and a risk to their health. If a complication were to arise due to treatment they would have to travel a distance to receive care.
Some special needs a specialty clinic that has a focus on urology and nephrology needs to be defined. The most important one is each physician needs his or her own procedure room with separate instruments and equipment. The urology physician and staff will often carry out many procedures that require sterile interments so it is necessary to have a room set aside for sterilizing tools at the end of the day or when needed. It is also important to have separate bathrooms for patients and staff so the spread of illnesses is limited and specimen contamination is kept at a minimum (Prairie lake hospital, 2013).
As the population in the region begin to age the need for urological and nephrology care will increase only placing further demand on the already stretched clinic. During the planning process it is important to do an extensive pre planning process. It is important to avoid over design yet plan for the next 10 years of demand. As the aging population places more demand on the specialty clinic the need for a functional yet warm environment become necessary.
The specialty clinic locate in Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown South Dakota is currently looking to expand its services to patients needing urology and nephrology care. This type of care will be needed as the large numbers of the community are aging. It is important to look at the design in a manner that will not only comfort the patient but support growth as new physicians come to work with Prairie Lake Hospital. It is also important to know that the hospital is expanding in other areas and a well-functioning urology and nephrology program will support this growth. The need for the specialty clinic also varies from separate sterilization room to bathroom facilities for staff that are separate from patient restrooms (Prairie lake hospital, 2013).

Regulatory requirements are requirements that have been mandated by various federal, states, and local municipalities regarding the operation and safety of business operations as well as services provided. The impact on regulatory requirements is based on how they are implemented. One stressful experience for an older patient is times that the facility is very large. The inability for them to find a department can lead to disorientation and frustration. Caregivers that work in healthcare facilities can also become stressed and can develop increased fatigue. One reason for the caregivers developing stress can be the poor design of the facility. Healthcare facilities should be clear and have a defined appearance based on the population, and needs of the population in which it serves. Poor design can lead to caregivers’ inefficiencies and fines charged because of the facilities failure to meet required regulations. This paper will include a layout and reason why facility was chosen. Suggestions on completing floor design different will also be included, and what I have learned about completing my own floor plan. The reason this facility was chosen was because the goal for the new Women and Infant Center’s reconstruction was to eliminate the overcrowded facility. At one time, the facility was under one roof with 17 labor & delivery rooms, 13 maternity evaluation units, four C-Section operating rooms, and 56 Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Units (O’Brien, 2010). Sharp is staffed with the highest rank of capable emergency doctors, administrative personnel, and nurses. Highly trained and skilled staffs to help the patients and families relax (Sharp, 2012). Sharp Chula Vista Emergency Room underwent a $12 million expansion that will triple up its capacity and will increase its original size from 8,000 square feet to 14,500 square feet (Sharp, 2012). This change will most definitely provide a more pleasant atmosphere to patients, and their families. The expansion is for the well- being of the public and the facility, which is set to develop the reconstruction or extension of the outpatient clinic. The facility is Redwood Falls Minnesota, called Redwood Area Hospital Outpatient Center. This paper will describe the community or facility need of the building, the people the facility serve, and the description of the facility. Community or Facility Need of the Building There is a need for strategic planning within any business or healthcare organization. Facility Planning Iii

...Facility Planning III Facility Planning III Throughout this paper we are going to look at the facility that I chose to design. Then we are to look at what I could have done differently. Then we are going to look at what I have learned from this experience. So let us get started. My Facility I chose to add on to an urgent care clinic in order to expand the clinic so they could meet more patients needs. What I could have done differently is the layout of the facility so I could have made more use of the space and fit more things in. This away all clients’ needs could have been met in one convenient area. I feel that every patient’s needs are different and not all of their needs can be net in the same way or by the exact same services. I have learned that this is a very difficult process and should not be taken lightly. There is a great deal that is put into these facilities so they can met the needs of their patients. I know see that this would take months of planning. It cannot be done in a short amount of time because you will be liable to leave out some important things or the design might not be all it can be. Also the building material needs to be looked at as well because saving money now might mean spending more money later. If you spend a little extra now then you can save to improve and add on to the clinic again later. Like I had stated before this does take months of planning and to me I have noticed several things looking over what I...

Facility Planning Consideration

...Facility Planning Consideration Tanyale Bell HCS/446 April 27, 2015 Richard Nordahl Abstract Facility Planning Consideration In this following paper I will discuss the regulatory requirements and their effect on design and equipment. This paper will give audiences detail on color selection implication and noise issues, electronic items needed, and Gantt chart that details and implementation plan. Thus, this evidence will give resource and facts of examination of budget planning and cost estimates, a list of different type of equipment needed, the description of the role of stakeholders’ in facility planning and development. For many years regulation and technical requirement have been affected by less needs and pressures. Which include workforce shortage, malpractice insurance and reimbursement. Although, since 60 to 75% of hospital expenses are labor costs, a design that increases operational productivity or efficiency and reduces staffing needs can have a major impact on the bottom line. (www.wbdg.org/design). Thus, regulatory requirements has an effect on state, local and federal laws. Many ordinance have more stringent requirement, such as zoning laws and building codes. In additional safety laws and other laws have to address before construction started. Federal and state laws relating to privacy (HIPAA), waste management (OSHA & EPA), environmental hazards (OSHA & EPA), and other emerging concerns have the potential to affect the design of a dental clinic...
