Many scientists have suggested that the recent spike in global temperatures has been caused by human activities, and many organizations are lobbying consumers to modify their practices before it is too late. Numerous consumer practices have been shown to contribute to global warming, and huge global change is necessary to at the very least, halt, global warming.

• While human activity since the Industrial Revolution in the 1700s has propelled recent global warming, there is also natural climate change that occurs as a result of normal atmospheric changes.
Causes Climate Change on wiseGEEK:
• As oceans warm, their habitability and nutritional makeup change, disrupting marine ecosystems and affecting millions of plant and animal species. Additionally, frequently cited climate change evidence shows that ocean levels are rising, in part due to increased glacial melt as temperatures warm.

• Another major concern of the climate change debate is the potentially disastrous effects of the global warming trend. In some estimates, climate change will warm seas, causing massive destruction to marine ecosystems and changing weather patterns across the globe.
While human activity since the Industrial Revolution in the 1700s has propelled recent global warming, there is also natural climate change that occurs as a result of normal atmospheric changes. Typically, climate change refers to a sustained change in weather across the globe, though it can be restricted to a region. Natural climate change may be caused by several factors, or climate forcings, including plate tectonics, ocean variations, tilt of the planet, orbital fluctuations, and changes in solar output.

While scientists have recorded climate change since the 1800s, previous variations in weather must be gleaned from oral histories, written documents, and archaeological evidence. Scientists often use glaciers
