STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM This study was undertaken to find out the factors that affects the academic performance of freshmen students from the College of Business, Polytechnic University of the Philippines of SY 2012-2013
Specifically, this study sought answers to the following research questions: 1. What are the personal backgrounds of the respondents? 1.1 Class of their family and the capacity to provide financial assistance to their study. 1.2 Class performance/standing during elementary & high school. 1.3 Personal allowance and their daily expenses. 1.4 Distance of the respondents’ house from Polytechnic University of the Philippines. 2. What is the respondents’ school environment? 2.1 Learning facilities of the school 3. How do people at school affect the academic performance and status of the respondents? 3.1 Professors. 3.2 Classmates. 3.3 School Administrators. SCOPE AND LIMITATION

PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH

The purpose of study intends to assess difference in the performance of BSOA students at school and estimates the change in perception of students about contribution of family, teachers, and self- efforts in academic achievements and also, to explore the obvious and given factors.

The main objectives of the study are ; first, to estimate the change in the performance of BSOA students at school , second, to assess the change in the perception of students about role of contributing factors in their academic achievements.
