...crashes involving a distracted driver.” Think about it, your life could change in an instant. Another major distraction is eating while driving. Opening one’s favorite dipping sauce for his/her chicken strips requires taking both hands off of the steering wheel. By taking both hands off of the steering wheel, one is in turn not focusing on the road. Therefore, the driver’s safety is at high risk. A car is not a restaurant, the driver is sitting in the driver’s seat not a table, so it only makes sense that one should not eat in the car. In addition to opening dipping sauce, one can spill his/her hot coffee or cold soda on his/her lap. Since the driver attempted to clean up the spill immediately, he/she became sidetracked from driving. As a final point, eating while driving while in a rush is extremely dangerous. One is late for work, so he/she is forced to drive-thru McDonalds and order his/her favorite breakfast; a mocha frappuccino, an egg white delight, and two hash browns. The driver is preoccupied by rushing to work and trying to fit the most important meal of the day in. Under those circumstances, the driver is more likely to speed through school zones, run a stop sign, and even spill something. To put it briefly, eating while driving can cause an immense amount of dangerous distractions. The third major distraction is driving with man’s best friend. To start with, pugs can be particularly disruptive. A unique fact about pugs is that they “were originally bred to sit on...

...can get along with anyone, but be careful not to cross the little fellow. I love it when he get into tornado mode. It reminds me of when I get angry about something. He can get angry and get calm in an instant. I relate to that because I do the same thing. Most of the time I am very happy and upbeat, but I do have my moments. Another thing I find interesting about Taz is the fact that he is destructive. Even when he tries really hard to be good, sometimes it turns out to be the opposite. I can relate to this as well. I am like a bull in a china shop sometimes. The more I try to be quite and careful, the more I cause a ruckus. Taz also has such a cute face. It reminds me of my pugs’ faces. Those big eyes looking at me with such love and comfort. I see Taz the same way with his friends. I do know he is a cartoon character, but he is just so cute. The only big difference in his face and my pugs are Taz’s teeth. He has some big chompers for such a little fellow. Unlike my pugs, Taz is also very fast. In tornado mode, he can go through and over anything he wishes. I envy him in this because I wish I were as fast as Taz. Sometimes I think I am too slow to finish some tasks in a timely fashion. The last thing I like about Taz is that he is a furry fellow. I love all my furry friends. I have two pugs, a pit bull, and a Siamese mix cat. I would have a ranch full of animals if I could afford it. All in all, Taz is a character I can relate to and...

...In regards to the news clip “Giuliani Remembers 9/11,” CNN and its creators paid for the broadcasted interview. When I listened to Giuliani and King talk about 9/11, I didn’t feel as though there was any kind of slant. As Giuliani and King reflect back on 9/11, it shows that not only are they still affected by the tragedy, but so is America. I believe Giuliani to be credible because he experienced 9/11 himself. I am not skeptical on his credibility because during 9/11, Giuliani was in the middle of the chaos trying to help others. He holds those memories dear to his heart, and will continue to for many years to come. I did not detect any bias from him because he was speaking from his personal opinion, and experience. The commercial from the Pedigree website was also paid by Pedigree and its creators. In my opinion, there was no slant in the Pedigree commercial. The Pedigree commercial lets me know that Pedigree is just another type of dog food trying to persuade animal owners into buying their brand because they say it is healthy. I do not find Pedigree to be credible because there is no proof that they are healthier than other brands. In the Pedigree ad, they show a dog and a person in the car and the car tilts over claiming the dog is overweight. They are also claiming that their dog food is healthy for overweight dogs. After seeing this ad, consumers may have the desire to switch their dog food over to Pedigree because they have a new “light” version for dogs that need to...

...Creationism VS. Evolution “Why evolution should be taught in public schools” by Laura H. Kahn discusses how evolution being taught in the public school system is essential to our future in science and medicine. Kahn discusses how the theory of evolution has come to be over the many years of research and experimentation by many famous scientists, she also talks about the uphill battle it has been for the theory of evolution to be taught in the public school system because “certain segments of society insist that religious doctrine, masquerading as science, be taught instead. Laura presents her audience with the facts that in the nineteenth century theory of spontaneous generation, the theory that proposed that life could emerge from nonliving material, was the main theory of evolution back then. How ever a French chemist, Louis Pasteur, would try to disprove the theory through his discovery that yeasts were responsible for making wine palatable and bacteria was responsible for turning wine bad. He also discovered through the use of silkworms that microbes caused their illness and death. She states that Pasteur saw the connection between microbes, fermentation, putrefaction, and disease. She claims that his biggest challenge however was to try to convince the scientific community to accept is idea. She backs up her statement with bringing to our attention that at the same time Pasteur was pushing his theory a scientist by the name of Felix-Archimede claimed he had successfully...

...Country Focus - India India is the most populous democracy in the world with nearly 1.2 billion people. Its economy grew 9.4% in the first half of year 2010 and is forecasted to grow 9.7% for the year by IMF (Businessweek). On the one hand, India possesses young and growing workforce, rising income levels and a domestic driven economy that are attracting global investors, on the other hand, issues like rising inflation and poor infrastructure continue to hold back the economy. Workforce: India has one of the highest numbers of working people in the world. In year 2010, India’s labor force counted to 478 million people second to China which has around 820 million. Young and growing workforce is the driving force behind Indian economy. According to a recent report by United Nations, working population in India is expected to grow by 46% between year 2000 and 2025 (United Nations). Growing Indian middle class along with large number of English speaking people is fueling the growth of service industry in India. Income Levels: India’s GDP per capita, PPP adjusted, stood at US$ 3400 for the year 2010 (CIA , 2010) which is relatively low even when compared to other developing countries in the region (China US$ 7400 PPP adjusted) (CIA , 2010). The unemployment rate was as high as 10.8 % for year 2010 and 25% of its population still stays below poverty line (CIA , 2010). Infrastructure: This is one of the most critical issues that pose a threat to the development of Indian...

...Comparing Commercials One advertisement I chose to consider is the puppy monkey baby commercial that aired during super bowl 50. This advertisement was for Mountain Dew. I was horrified by this commercial. Another advertisement I chose to consider is an ad for Nissan. In the commercial they are advertising the Nissan Rogue. This commercial really grabbed my attention. I had actually said in the past that this was my favorite commercial because now-a-days most commercials are just ridiculous. Because it was such a good advertisement, it affected me in a good way as I still remember it since it last aired in 2015. In the Mountain Dew commercial, there is a hybrid which consists of a pug head, a monkey’s body, and a baby’s legs. The hybrid enters the room with a bucket of Mountain Dew’s new drink, kick start. The hybrid then starts dancing and handing out the drinks to three teenagers sitting on the couch. It seems as if they are targeting the younger generation. This commercial does not use logos to persuade the audience. The puppy monkey baby is not logical or realistic. This commercial does not use ethos to persuade the audience either. I did not get the impression the person behind the commercial had any good sense because I don’t believe there is such a thing as the puppy monkey baby. This commercial does use pathos to persuade the audience. If I had to guess, they are trying to appeal to the audience’s sense of humor. Perhaps I didn’t find it funny because I was not...

...turban and oversized moustache exuding warmth and hospitality, and Asian Paints' naughty boy Gattu, holding a bristly paintbrush in one hand and a can of overflowing paint in the other. Incidentally, Gattu was created in 1954 by none other than the master cartoonist, R. K. Laxman. Why mascots? The use of mascots goes back to antiquity, but they were not always called mascots. The word 'mascot' suggests a connection with the occult, being derived from the French slang mascotte meaning 'witch'. How the word entered the English language is a story in itself. At the turn of the century, a French composer named Edmond Audran (1842-1901) wrote a series of operettas. One of the most popular was called La Mascotte (1880), a light-hearted plot about a farm girl who brought good luck to whoever employed her, provided she remained a virgin. The opera ran for over a thousand performances between 1800 and 1882. As it gained popularity, it was...

...People have been drawn to pit bulls for hundreds of years. In fact, historical figures such as President Woodrow Wilson, President Theodore Roosevelt, Helen Keller, Fred Astaire, Humphrey Bogart, and Thomas Edison have all owned this type of dog. The three types of dogs considered to be a “pit bull” are the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. These breeds have developed from bull-dogs over centuries in England. They were originally used for “bull-baiting”, and require much exercise because of their pasts. Pit bulls have worked as many things and are now used as therapy dogs. Despite their history and personalities, many people have differing views. In the beginning they were America’s...

(BS-2) Najmah’s thoughts and actions while with Akhtar’s family have been the foundation in tracking her developments, and her silence, if dug into deep enough, portrays some development in her mindset as well. ...is breeding animals with desirable characteristics to produce offspring with those characteristics, cannot do what cloning could, and cloning could influence the traits in an organism as well as relying less on chance, as compared to selective breeding which cannot do those things (“Cloning”). For this reason is cloning beneficial to the environment, as well as rejects the claim that cloning does not add genetic diversity. In addition to the previous statement, from the article “The Ethics of Cloning” states how cloning allows “breeders to produce genetic replicas of valuable animals” which makes selective reproduction “more efficient”. Therefore, the claim that cloning does not enhance diversity within the animal community, is false. In fact, cloning helps make animals better fit for their environment, which could have been a struggle beforehand. There are many other uses for cloning other than selective breeding. The website “Why Clone?” tells a list of uses. It states, how cloning “could help reduce the time needed to make a transgenic animal model”, which are animals that are genetically engineered to “carry disease-causing mutations in their genes”. “Why Clone?” also adds, “Some researchers are looking at cloning as a way to create stem cells that are genetically identical to an individual. These cells could then be used for medical purposes, possibly even for growing whole organs. And stem cells cloned from someone with a disease could be grown in culture and studied to...

...It's a term we are all familiar with: The ex that obsessively texts or calls you, and tries to continue being a part of your life, regardless of you repeatedly insisting they go away. We've all been on both sides whether we like to admit it or not. But here is the cold hard truth, these obsessive behaviors during a break up are NORMAL! So why are we still calling people we used to love crazy? Seriously, why? Stop it. You know you’ve all crept on your ex just to make sure you are doing better than they are, so don’t pretend like you are above it. But seriously, there are psychological facts that back up the “crazy” nature that comes with a breakup, and here are some of my reasons I don’t believe in the term crazy ex-girlfriend, considering pretty...
