in the new law journal, Kirstie Gibson talks about ‘the family mediation task force’ and why it was created. The article explains that the family mediation task force was made because the publicly- funded mediations dropped while the litigants in person rose. The purpose of the family mediation task force was to try and deal with family disputes together rather than going to court. The article points out that publicly funded mediation has dropped by a third due to the enforcement of the legal aid, sentencing and punishment of offenders act 2012, which changed the perspective of legal aid in family matters by eliminating legal aid from a majority of private family law cases, however this change has brought a drop in referrals from legal aid

Consumer Behavior

...Children as Consumers: Advertising and Marketing Children as Consumers: Advertising and Marketing Sandra L. Calvert Summary Marketing and advertising support the U.S. economy by promoting the sale of goods and services to consumers, both adults and children. Sandra Calvert addresses product marketing to children and shows that although marketers have targeted children for decades, two recent trends have increased their interest in child consumers. First, both the discretionary income of children and their power to influence parent purchases have increased over time. Second, as the enormous increase in the number of available television channels has led to smaller audiences for each channel, digital interactive technologies have simultaneously opened new routes to narrow cast to children, thereby creating a growing media space just for children and children’s products. Calvert explains that paid advertising to children primarily involves television spots that feature toys and food products, most of which are high in fat and sugar and low in nutritional value. Newer marketing approaches have led to online advertising and to so-called stealth marketing techniques, such as embedding products in the program content in films, online, and in video games. All these marketing strategies, says Calvert, make children younger than eight especially vulnerable because they lack the cognitive skills to understand the persuasive intent of television and online advertisements...

Marriage and Guidance Counselling Mgg 201

...Marriage Guidance – Summary MGG201W MGG201W – Marriage Guidance – facilitative couples counselling Theme ONE – Understanding couples Intimacy involves: love, affection and caring, deep attachment to another person. The TRIPOD of couple relationships An intimate relationship consists of three factors that form a tripod on which the relationship rests. 1. Passionate attraction (PA) 2. Mutual expectations (ME) 3. Personal intentions (PI) Passionate attractions (PA) → Individual experiences intensely pleasurable sensations when thinking about or being with a new partner. → Blushing, trembling, breathlessness, high sexual desire → Referred to as infatuation = passing love “a foolish and unreasoning love’ → Infatuation is not a realistic / accurate appraisal of the relationship / idealisation → Negative / flaws in the idealised beloved may be intellectually recognised, but disregarded as endearingly special. Person chooses to ignore the negatives → Normal phase in the process of relationships → Infatuation can lead to a lasting relationship – but it mostly fades away and relationship based on infatuation alone will fail. Love → Involves physical attraction - deeper → Love encompasses PA, ME and PI → People rely mostly on life experiences to guide them to their own unique way of demonstrating love. → Eric Fromm “love is active concern for the life and growth of the person we love” → Love is deep, unselfish, caring, deep respect Hauck’s basic principles about love • It is not just...

Gender Relations and Divorce Among the Elites

... ABSTRACT This study is aimed at establishing the relationship between Gender relations and Divorce such that possible approaches are sought to mitigate them. The study set out to assess the sex-differentiated impact of divorce, which are normally part of family life. These include changes in residences by children to accommodate changes in their relationships with their parents, changes in parental employment, remarriage, and stepfamily formation still; most children suffer from declining father. The study found that such changes affect individuals within households differently. Some lose while others gain. Women, however, have been singled out as the most affected. Changes in marriage and divorce laws and policies have further affected individual household members in different ways that is, children live in many different family forms, but the most common pattern is that they live with their mothers and have less contact with their fathers. As a result, a common alteration that children are forced to make is an adjustment to life without their father at home. Most children share time between the mother's household and the father's household, and families are creative in finding ways for children to maintain meaningful relationships with both parents involvement after divorce The conflicts over ownership of children and property has resulted to the formulation of the domestic relations Bill, marriage and divorce laws, which has led to...

Rape In Canada

...remarks; Catherine states that "Everything that came out of his mouth was sexual," then she also says, "If I had a dime for every time one of my bosses asked me to sit on his lap. I'd be on a yacht in the Bahamas right now” (News, CBC). Although Galliford wrote an 115-page internal complaint, the RCMP still needed to respond. The complaint included the statement that a supervisor on the Missing Women's Task Force mislead a colleague when he states that they were intimate and he exposed himself to her. By 2011, Catherine made the decision to file a lawsuit against the four officers: RCMP doctor, the Attorney of General of Canada, B.C. justice minister and another RCMP officer, since her case was not attended to. Catherine’s case was helped on May 6, 2016 with a settlement. Catherine is not the only woman from government services to be a victim of rape, but also students from the University of British Columbia. Many women of this university came forth of their incidents but the university officials dismissed their complaints, since they took place off of campus. UBC officials urged mediation between the female students and their alleged attacker, but the women refused "I don't want to sit in a room with this student" said Cunningham. "And I don't think it's appropriate for assault, especially, that you sit in a room…and have a meditation" (Mayor, Lisa). The last week after one day closed door hearing, UBC emailed the victimized women that they have expelled their attacker, Mordvinov from...

...ISBN 978-92-64-04632-0 OECD Employment Outlook © OECD 2008 Chapter 3 The Price of Prejudice: Labour Market Discrimination on the Grounds of Gender and Ethnicity Despite some progress, there is still evidence of discrimination on the grounds of gender and ethnic or racial origins in OECD labour markets. Field experiments show pervasive ethnic discrimination in many countries. Indirect evidence shows that on average at least 8% of the gender employment gap and a larger proportion of the gender wage gap can be attributed to discrimination. Virtually all OECD countries have enacted anti-discrimination laws in recent decades, and evaluations as well as cross-country analysis suggest that, if well-designed, these laws can be effective in reducing disparities in labour market outcomes. However, enforcement of antidiscrimination legislation is essentially based on victims’ willingness to claim their rights. Thus, public awareness of legal rules and their expected consequences (notably, victims’ costs and benefits of lodging complaints) is a crucial element of an effective policy strategy to establish a culture of equal treatment. Moreover, legal rules are likely to have more impact if the enforcement is not exclusively dependent on individuals. In this respect, specific agencies may play a key role. 139 3. THE PRICE OF PREJUDICE: LABOUR MARKET DISCRIMINATION ON THE GROUNDS OF GENDER AND ETHNICITY Introduction Employment outcomes are far from being evenly distributed...
