Family Unit

When I think of the family unit, I think of it as the fundamental building block to society. The family unit is so valuable that it deserves to be nurtured and protected. When families become entangled in generational sins or dismantled from chaotic upheavals, they are giving Satan a foothold to wreak havoc, (whether they know it or not). Focusing on the family can be a powerful tool to therapeutic healing because a healthy family respects one another, communicates well, supports one another, and even solves their problems. From Stan’s genogram you get a vivid picture of sin being passed down from generation to generation. I like how each member of the family is brought into the therapeutic session because it opens the door for the therapist to see how Stan’s family interacts with one another. For example, Stan’s father comes on a bit strong, he portrays himself as tough. Dr. Corey reframes Frank’s words, making them a bit more gracious. Dr. Corey continues around the room establishing a relationship with each person while listening to each person’s story and picking up cues or sequences along the way. I think this structure seems very sound; I love how it holds fast to remaining positive even when the client(s) appear to be negative. This positive attitude will hopefully be caught by the client(s) and begin to change the atmosphere of the therapeutic session(s). In my eyes, the two theories that appear to be the least beneficial are Psychoanalytic therapy and Feminist therapy. Even though Psychoanalytic therapy has been the primary source for which most theories have grown, it remains costly, time consuming and its effectiveness is something that has been largely questioned because many clients return to therapy soon after terminating. I feel that this form of therapy has the potential to side track clients from the issues that really matter. Much of this theory conceals the truth about individuals by focusing on things like the Oedipus complex. Many clients who come to therapy are overly dependent people and this form of therapy appears to foster more dependence by its continuation. In Feminist therapy, therapists primarily work with women to help them overcome stereotypical behaviors, especially those caused by masculinity. Men and women both face difficult situations and I feel that individuals must look within, in order to overcome hardships. I also feel that looking at the client’s situation based solely on culture or social status is wrong. While these issues are important, we are all individuals and individuals make choices, sometimes those choices lead us down wrong paths. The individual should not be allowed to place blame on others if they are not willing to look within.
If I had to work with a supervisor who insisted I use a therapeutic style that I am uncomfortable with, I would find out her rationale behind her thoughts, communicate my thoughts, and hopefully pray together. If I felt it was against Gods will for the individual I would not perform as he/she desired me to. I hope this is not wrong but I feel it is more important to listen to Gods prompting then to man’s idea. I know that there will be times we need to step away from our comfort zone and lean on God for his perfect will and sometimes what we think is best for someone may not be at all what God intends for that individual. It is very important to be in tune to Gods voice, to rely on his discernment so that everything we do brings glory to Jesus Christ.

Childhood Cancer and the Effects on the Family Unit

...A cancer diagnosis at any age can be devastating and scary, but when it is a child that is diagnosed the devastation is even more profound. The diagnosis is not just a diagnosis for the child; it is a diagnosis for the entire family. It will uniquely affect each member at the time of diagnosis, during the course of treatment, and during the survivorship phase and will have a direct effect on how they cope. Treatment for a childhood cancer can be much longer than that of an adult treatment plan and the lengthy road can take its toll on everyone. Often times the focus remains on the patient alone and the parents and siblings become casualties of the disease process. The diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescent with cancer has tremendous and lasting effects on an entire family. Overview of Pediatric Cancer Cancers of any kind during childhood are rare. Childhood cancer accounts for less than two percent of all cancers diagnosed each year. About 150 to 160 per 1,000,000 children or around 12,000 children in total will be diagnosed in any given year (Abrams & Kurtz, 2011). The most common form of pediatric cancer is leukemia and more specifically acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and central nervous system (CNS) tumors. Other tumor types include germ cell tumor, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, neuroblastoma, acute myeloid leukemia, Wilms tumor, osteosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, thyroid carcinoma, melanoma, retinoblastoma and Ewing’s sarcoma (Abrams, et al. 2011)...

Unit 3 Assignment for Pa250 Family Law

...Michael Crockett PA 250 Family Law Prof: Jessica Gauvin June 22, 2013 Unit 3 Assignment The Uniform Premarital Agreement Act is the regulation that allows the parties of a premarital contract to choose the state's jurisdiction under which their contract will fall. A couple can decide on any state in which one of the parties lives or plans to live or the state in which the couple will be married. Because this act has not been passed in all states, parties to a prenuptial contract are also limited to choosing only the states that have passed the Uniform Premarital Agreement Act. It was drafted by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws in 1983. The state of Texas is one of 27 states that adopted the Uniform Premarital Agreement Act (UPAA) Texas Family Code, Chapter 4: Premarital and Marital Property Agreements govern Texas prenuptial agreements. There are obligations that the couple must meet and some circumstances that might render the agreement void. Prenuptial agreements need to be in writing. Some states require a notarized agreement, but Texas does not. Both partners must fully disclose their assets and liabilities. This includes getting appraisals done for things that might be difficult to value. The partners need to understand each other’s situation fully before they can agree to anything in a prenuptial agreement. A court will void an agreement that involves less than full disclosure on the part of one of the partners. Each partner must...

Social issues: 5.1 Housing 7 5.2 Poverty 8 5.3 Wellness and Healthy Living 9 Conclusion 10 References 11 Introduction Malaysia has over a period of fifty years since its independence developed into a highly urbanized nation due to buoyant economic growth. Along with development comes progress and along the way, changes to a certain degree- a modern family unit. As society progresses, so do methodologies and programs in the teaching of Early Childhood Education. In the United States, early childhood professionals agree that the children’s development is influenced by their environment: their family, teachers, school, town, media, governmental systems, and so on. (Morrison,2011). An important aspect of early childhood education is developing a holistic approach to education itself. Parents who are illiterate are taught to read, write, speak and listen so that in turn, they can be of support to their children in the learning process. In Malaysia, early childhood programs...

New Health Medical Systems

...New Health Medical Systems Shari Gifford HRM/548 Jennifer Familant March 10, 2014 New Health Medical Systems TO: New Health Medical Systems, Board of Directors FROM: Shari Gifford, HR Consultant CC: Jennifer Familant DATE: March 10, 2014 SUBJECT: Staffing Strategy It is my understanding that you, the Board of Directors of New Health Medical Systems, recently announced a new strategic direction to become a regional center for critically ill patients. As a part of that strategy, New Health Medical Systems (NHMS) has opened a new cardiovascular unit where patients can receive care for heart attacks, strokes, and other types of cardiovascular diseases. NHMS was quickly able to recruit a quality physician to head the unit as well as additional professional staff, however finding qualified technicians have become much more difficult than originally anticipated. The problem does not seem to be so much in terms of the position being attractive to candidates, but rather a lack of skilled technicians in the immediate region. Most of the skilled technicians are already employed, and are not actively seeking jobs with other organizations. In order to fill the 35 technician positions, the director of staffing has created a new staffing strategy that includes the following: 1. Place advertisement in the local newspapers 2. Contact staffing agencies that specializes in placing technicians into health care facilities 3. Organize a job fair and invite local...

Cme Study Case

...CME Case Study David Gold’s challenge encompasses many different elements. The most obvious is the perception of his department, the refill packaging unit, by those in and around the company as either a stepping stone/proving ground or a place where the “losers” work. This has led to a high level of turn over decreasing continuity and confidence. His unit’s supervisors are also struggling with the permissive culture of the company, each having their own perspectives on the consequences of the culture; acceptability of supervisors to hold individuals accountable as well as expectations on supervisor engagement. The unit also lacks a clear vision for the workforce. David Gold laid out goals during the first off-site but hasn’t been able to engage his key leaders with a vision or objectives for the unit. Finally, David’s unit lacks trust. Trust from the supervisors’ perspective that management will support them when they make tough decisions as well as from the management’s perspective, supervisors won’t act in the best interest of the company and aren’t dedicated to their work. This environment has led to a unit not performing as a team with animosity building between supervisors from different backgrounds as well as between supervisors on different shifts. David Gold, the manager, should encourage the participation of all the supervisors in meeting the goals and objectives. He should also insist that the general supervisors collaborate with the production supervisors...

Respect

...team together. Without it there is no unit cohesion, no espirit de corps, no coordination. However, discipline is a complex product of training, leadership, and respect. It is respect which creates devotion to the team, and the important part is that that respect flows both up and down the chain of command. A leader respects the skills, strengths, and sacrifices of the people who work for him, and by giving that respect, in time and with effort, his troops come to respect him as well. That respect grows into devotion: the devotion of the leader to his troops, to do his best to see them through tough times and bring them home to their families, and the devotion of the troops to accomplishing the tasks of their unit under the vision of their leadership. Disrespect, however, has exactly the opposite effect. If a leader disrespects his troops, he fails to earn their respect and therefore fails to create devotion to the team. His attitude will be noticed and will become detrimental to morale, which in turn will hurt the combat effectiveness of each troop as well as the whole. Because he cannot respect his troops, he will also fail to recognize their true strengths and employ his forces to the best of their respective abilities. If, on the other hand, a troop fails to form respect for ANY leader, no matter how good that leader is at their job, then that troop forms a sort of uprising point... a point of discontention that saps unit cohesion and draws any other malcontents...

...Benihana of Tokyo Some restaurateurs like myself have more fun than others, says Hiroaki (Rocky) Aoki, youthful president of Benihana of Tokyo. Between 1964, when he opened his first location, and 1972 he had gone from deficit net worth to being president of a chain of 15 restaurants that grossed over $12 million per year. Background By 1972 Benihana was basically a steakhouse with a difference--the food was cooked in front of the customer by Japanese chefs, and the decor was that of an authentically detailed Japanese country inn. From a humble 40-seat unit opened in midtown Manhattan in 1964, Benihana had grown to a chain of 15 units across the country. Nine were company-owned locations: New York (3); San Francisco; Chicago; Encino and Marina del Rey, California; Portland, Oregon; and Honolulu. Five were franchised: Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Beverly Hills, Seattle, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The last unit, Las Vegas, was operated as a joint venture with Hilton Hotels Corporation. Rocky, who was a former Olympic wrestler, described his success as follows: In 1959, I came to the United States on a tour with my university wrestling team. I was 20 at the time. When I reached New York, it was love at first sight! I was convinced that there were more opportunities for me in America than Japan. I decided to enroll in the School of Restaurant Management at City College basically because I knew that in the restaurant business I’d never go hungry. I earned money those...
