While I was less than one foot from the stage, I sat at a table filled with the largest pile of food I have ever witnessed, the Famous Dave’s All American Feast. It was piled high with chicken, brisket, and the ribs that made your mouth water. To accompany this delicious food, my ears were soothed with my favorite blues band, Tommy Castro and the Painkillers. I was grateful for being able to sit close enough to analyze James Pace, the organist. When I listened to the songs, I would hear the organ above every other instrument. I would watch his every move so when I returned home, I could try to imitate what he did. James Pace’s hands would bounce around on the organ. He would slam down on the keys and also slide his hands up the down the ivory. The show ended with the band playing my favorite song, Keep On Smiling. This got me excited because it gave me the opportunity to meet James. I wanted to pick his brain and try to find out where he learned to play the way he did. After going around to all of the band members to receive their signature on my shirt, I walked up to James Pace. “Can I have your autograph please?” I asked him. “Sure thing bud, I’m glad to see young kids out here listening to the good music,” James replied. “Thanks!” I nervously responded, as I was too exuberant to think of anything else to say. When he pulled my shoulder close to his marker, James Pace asked, “Do you play any instruments?” As I looked down at his autograph on my right shoulder in awe, I quickly responded, “Yeah! I play the piano and organ just like you!” While he nodded in approval, he asked, “Do you take any lessons?” “Yes!” I
