Fashion fascinations for Spring 2010

Spring 2010 exemplifies clothes that are soft, feminine, not overtly frilly and most of all capturing that easy-sexy look effortlessly. Here are the fashion fascination highlights for Spring 2010.

1. Skater Dresses. Yes, every little girl’s favorite sport--figure skating is finally hitting the runways this season. This short dress is a favorite for A-list celebs such as Zoe Saldana and Chloe Sevigny. Skater dresses are so flattering because it flares from the waistline giving a girly & youthful feel. The soft, layered hemlines whether done in pleats or ruffles are sure to make any woman twirl with delight. This dress shows off your lean legs-instantly giving you that svelte look. This look is easy-sexy that comes in soft hues such as lavender, blush and peach. Spring shows are filled with this fantasy inspired look from Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior to Stella McCartney. It is highly recommended that you invest in this piece, as this dress will most likely be wearable for the summer.

2. Gray for day, silver for night. Gray is the new go-to color for day. It’s an easy flattering color that will suit almost everyone. Designers have handpicked a light gray color for spring 2010 shown in most skirts, shorts and blouses. Night time signals the need for some eye-catching hue--silver. Another color that is easy to wear but designers are gunning for the sequined, sparkly silver hue. Arrays of choices are available as designers such as Marchesa and Yves Saint Laurent have come up with playful dresses, shorts, skirts and blouses. This year’s Oscars were awash with the silver hue from Sandra Bullock to Kate Winslet. However, Gwyneth Palthrow is the poster child for this unassuming color trend, usually wearing these colors for her red carpet events such as the latest movie premiere of Iron Man 2.

3. Orange Obsession. Spring colors have moved into the orange spectrum with pieces ranging from soft orange-peach-blush palette to a daring scarlet. Diane von Furstenburg debuted this tangy color in her spring collection. Fashion insiders refer to this new orange color as “naranja”. Models are dolled up in this spring color with cosmetics ranging from lipsticks to blush all spiced up in a zesty palette. A spectacular fashion moment was when this color appeared in Bottega Veneta’s Spring/Summer 2010 men’s collection. Male models worked the catwalk in orange shirts and jackets. A complete statement piece, orange does add a fresh fruity spring feeling that is both exciting and fun.

4. Floral fanatics. As the season of spring evokes images of floral blooms, designers dare not disappoint. This season’s floral print is everywhere from skirts to dresses. However, spring florals are playfully upgraded with the creation of floral appliqué in a delightful bouquet design. Some say florals have gone 3D because of new depth and dimension simple clothes are transformed into pure whimsical fantasy. Noteworthy to mention are Marc Jacob’s Rosette Mini Dress and Elizabeth & James’ Ruffle V-neck Tank.

5. Boudoir trend. As easy-sexy is the motto for spring the showcase of your bra has become so fashionably in. Bearing your boudoir in a tasteful elegant way, covered in lace, voile, satin, chiffon and semi-sheer fabric is the best secret weapon to combine tease and tradition. Karl Lagerfeld showcased this look in the Fendi spring runway show, pairing loose blouses over bras and structured shorts and pants. Fashion insiders know exactly how to temper this look by covering the bottom with trousers or leggings. Gwen Stefani has been seen rocking this look around town.

6. Geometric sandals. The gladiator look is still a favorite but now we have a more futuristic alternative. Balenciaga is credited with this innovative shoe design. A geometric strap over the feet and buckle enclosure ankle strap made out of leather and a strong square heel. Of course done in spring’s main color-silver and accessorized with large colored beads. This is the perfect pair for the season. Style icons Kate Moss and Kylie Minogue have both been spotted donning these 3”in heeled babies.

7. Cat-eye sunglasses are so purr-fect. This 50’s inspired cat woman look is a definite spring must have accessory. For runways spring 2010, most models strutted designer duds accessorized with a pair of these covetable shades. This cool eye wear can instantly transform any look and will work for most face shapes. Savvy fashionistas have quickly picked up this look as Nicky Hilton and the Olsen twins have been spotted sporting these shades. Alexander Wang and Jason Wu’s collection has the best cat-eye sunglasses that come in black, onyx and white.

8. Bags galore. Spring 2010 is all about combining ease and sexiness. The best bag that captures this feel is the drawstring bucket bag. Large and roomy enough to carry your daily essentials but at the same time exuding a relaxed and luxurious feel. Bucket bags are versatile and works well with day or night time looks. Chanel has a timeless black bucket bag complete with trademark chain straps. Cole Haan carries an ivory bucket bag done in luxe leather. However if you want to carry less, envelope clutches are still the must-have accessory. Spring’s clutches are in stark contrast to the clothes. The latest designer clutches are done either in geometric or animal print painted with bold colors such as fuchsia and bronze. A great buy would be Tory Burch’s spring collection of print leather clutches.

...htm JFMM 8,4 ACADEMIC PAPER 362 Fashion change and fashion consumption: the chaotic perspective Ka Ming Law, Zhi-Ming Zhang and Chung-Sun Leung Institute of Textiles and Clothing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hunghom, Hong Kong Keywords Fashion, Consumers, Young adults, Social change Abstract Previous researches have considered that the impact of fashion change and fashion consumption is linear. Therefore, one reason was found as the ultimate source to explain why a fashion style/ trend was spread to the mass market. However, the existing market is complex and difficult to find out the holistic reason to explain fashion consumption. In this study, the chaotic perspective is taken into account to investigate the relationship between fashion change and fashion consumption. By using the grounded theory method, 33 in-depth interviews were conducted. A chaotic fashion consumption model is developed from the findings to explain how different fashions are consumed and rejected while fashion changes. It is found that the interaction of being fashionable, perceived fashionability and system participation affects the ultimate decision on fashion consumption. It is also found that a pattern can be traced to forecast the degree of fashion consumption even when the fashion change phenomenon is chaotic. Thus, it is similar to the principle of chaos theory that short-term prediction is possible in relation to the degree of fashion acceptance among consumers. Marketing implications...

Brazilian Environment

...Brazil Inside brazils booming fashion industry (http://www.businessoffashion.com/2010/08/inside-brazils-booming-fashion-industry.html) A Booming Economy Undeniably, the primary force driving the current surge in the Brazilian fashion market is a healthy macroeconomic context. Brazil’s economy has been expanding steadily for years, a result of a stable political and social climate and long-term reforms set in place by the current and previous government administrations. As much of the world slid into severe recession in late 2008, Brazil continued to expand. Indeed, according to Brazil’s national statistics agency, GDP grew a record 9 percent in the first quarter 0f 2010. National Optimism The robust economy has, in turn, fed the country’s self-confidence. Whether at São Paulo Fashion Week, in the streets, or in the nation’s shopping malls, there is a palpable optimism in the air: Brazil believes in itself. This hasn’t always been the case. When queried on the main factor behind her country’s current optimism, Erika Palomino, arguably the best-known fashion journalist in Brazil, pointed out that a new-found “self-esteem” is as important as the positive numbers: “Because we are a former colony, for a long time we didn’t believe in ourselves and always looked abroad, thinking other countries did things better. That has changed.” Indeed, winning bids to host both the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics have had a major impact in boosting the country’s sense of confidence...

Zara Supply Chain Management

...Zara’s Fast Fashion Edge Arteixo is a small town in northwestern Spain near the Atlantic, surrounded by fishing villages. In its center, a glass building sits amid acres of green lawn. It’s the headquarters of Zara, the company that introduced the idea of fast fashion some two decades ago, then developed a highly centralized and often studied—but rarely duplicated—design, manufacturing, and distribution system. The building is officially known as the Cube. Those who work there think of it as the brain. The Cube is central command for a fashion empire built on an unconventional idea: speed and responsiveness are more important than cost. Zara is renowned for its ability to deliver new clothes to stores quickly and in small batches. Twice a week, at precise times, store managers order clothes, and twice a week, on schedule, new garments arrive. To achieve this, Zara controls more of its manufacturing than do most retailers: About half its clothes are made in Spain or nearby countries. For Zara, its supply chain is its competitive advantage. Zara’s expanding global reach could finally put its Iberian Peninsula-based ecosystem to the test. Spain has always been its biggest market. But in 2013, China surpassed France to become its second-largest in terms of the number of stores (142). Expansion in China offers challenges for every retailer. And it could put the Spanish clothier in a singular predicament, because Zara is a global company that doesn’t act locally. “The secret to their...
