Humanity or Food Industries?

Over the years food industries have been the blame for obesity when in reality it's the people's fault. They disregard the fact that fast food is atrocious because they still manage to invest their money into it. People show indifference when it comes to eating healthy which leads to bad eating habits and eventually obesity. It seems as people don't care about eating healthy and maintaining a stable diet. Obesity is optional, it is never mandatory to eat fast food. People just blame the fast food industries for personal reasons.

In the article Cheap Food Blamed for America's Obesity Crisis, it states “It's not that we don't exercise enough or spend too much time at the office, or that good, healthy food is too expensive” (Caroll) This tells us being healthy isn’t cheap but on the other hand fast food is. People would rather much go to a local fast food restaurant than to grocery shop for organic food. They’re many plausible reasons as to why people turn to fast food in the article Fast Food – Is it the Enemy? “Having fast food everywhere makes this very easy” (Muntel) Fast food is everywhere, which means it’s easy access for the public. Fast food restaurants make it difficult for people to avoid due to their prices and convenience. Obesity interestingly stated “Obesity has rapidly increased in the last few decades, around the world.” (Shah) Keep in mind this is a global issue as well, people throughout the world have these exact same problems. They tend to have fast food around their community, it’s like they can’t run away from the fast food industry. This issue affects many individuals, particularly the world because having fast food is allowed and people support it. The food industry and the people both play a role in causing obesity, they just both have their pros and

This web article started with the author's point of view as he rode on a bariatric ambulance (an ambulance designed especially to care for the obese). The information gathered from this web source include facts from a twelve year study done at Plymouth hospital, Earl Butz, Surplus of corn, Hank Cardello, and many other important figureheads of the obesity epidemic. This web article will primarily be used as how the epidemic started and who is to blame. I trust this source by the links given within the article. Each important name, study, and association has a hyperlink that leads the reader to where the author has received his information. This article pertains to how the food industry has changed since the mid-70s, including history of the Nixon Presidency and what figureheads are doing now to reverse damages being made. The author gives strong reasons to blame the food industry. Kenner, Robert. "Food, Inc." PBS. PBS, 21 Apr. 2010. Web. 10 June 2016....

Preventing Obesity in Children: Americans are the fattest people on the planet and continue to expand. Excess weight isn’t just a matter of looks. Obesity magnifies the risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other ailments thus overtaking tobacco as the leading cause of chronic illness (Brownell & Horgen, 2004, p. 4). An especially disturbing aspect of this trend is that children are increasingly obese. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2002) reports that the percentage of obese children aged 6 to 11 almost quadrupled from 4% in 1974 to 15% in 2000, and the percentage of obese children...

Obesity In America Research Paper

...Obesity has basically become an epidemic across America. Sylvia Endahl states that in the year 2010, around 12 states population was over 30% obese. Just ten years ago, there were zero states with a percentage of obesity higher than thirty (p. 23). Obesity is a huge crisis that many countries all around the world are dealing with. However, the largest obesity “epidemic,” is here in America. The problem is that people do not know exactly what is in their food: how many calories, saturated fat, trans fat, and sodium has been put into the meal. Obesity is not only a problem in adults, it is also arising problems in children. The amount of overweight people in the United States is spreading like wildfire, and the worst part is, the people are not...

Obesity and the Effects of Fast Food in America

...McKoy HON 410 Professor Yesudas Choondassery February 22, 2013 Our Future: What Fast Food is Taking From Us We as Americans are facing quite an epidemic when it comes to health. It is not as though the nation was stricken with some sort of plague or fell victim to some conspiracy. Unfortunately, the cause of our issues is much more in our control than I think we would care to admit. Our health is depleting at large numbers all because of our diet. The rates of heart related issues, blood pressure and diabetes are at astounding numbers. These medical concerns are costing the country billions of dollars in healthcare. Why and when did our health begin to plummet? Over past decades America’s love for junk and fast food is the culprit behind this country having one of the unhealthiest populations any continent has to offer. This fascination of fast food had to start somewhere. Not only that but so did awareness that this particular industry may single handedly be responsible for obesity in this country. There are few topics actually that will help to understand this phenomenon a little further beyond the awareness of fast food. There was legislation that was passed that was supposed to help Americans understand what they are consuming on a daily basis. We learn this is only as helpful as one is able to translate the information. Many people are lost when it comes to nutritional food labels and what the numbers mean when it comes to their personal diet and intake....

...pictured on the front of the box. Parents will love Pirate Oats because it will keep their children healthy and at lower risk to develop childhood obesity and type two diabetes. This is because Pirate Oats will be lower in excess sugar, and higher in whole grains, than the competition. Pirate Oats will be marketed through an advertising campaign on popular children’s after-school television shows on networks such as Nickelodeon and FOX. First year marketing efforts will result in revenues equalling 10% of the target market as well as a 2% total market share gain for General Mills within the ready-to-eat breakfast cereal market. Achieving these goals will allow General Mills to reliably turn a profit within the first year of sales. 2.0 SITUATION ANALYSIS General Mills has long been a standard in the ready-to-eat breakfast cereal marketplace. It has many cereals marketed to, and designed for children, and has enjoyed a healthy market share to date. With the recent health food craze, the rise in childhood obesity, and poor diet being blamed for heart disease, type two diabetes, as well as cancer; refined flour and high sugar breakfast cereals marketed directly to children have come under high levels of scrutiny and disapproval. On the other hand, cereals high in whole grains have been shown to reduce blood glucose levels, and help fight obesity (Kim 2009). Because of this, it is objective of this plan to effectively market General Mills’ latest whole grain breakfast cereal, Pirate...

...THE YEAR THAT WAS(2011-12) In a year marked by mass protests, the awakening that swept the Arab world stood out. The Arab spring was sparked by rallies in Tunisia that followed the self-immolation in late 2010 of a young market worker angered by police harassment. He died in hospital in January, prompting thousands to take to the streets in sometimes violent clashes that forced the long-time president, Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, to flee to Saudi Arabia. Emboldened by the outcome in Tunisia, protesters soon rose up in other Arab countries. Hundreds of thousands of Egyptians filled the centre of Cairo and camped in Tahrir Square to call for Hosni Mubarak to step down. After three decades in power, Mr Mubarak withstood only three weeks of strife. Although frail, he eventually stood trial (due to resume soon) for the deaths that occurred when his security forces tried to quash the protests. Elsewhere, Yemen’s president fled in June and eventually signed a transition deal to end his 33-year reign; Saudi troops helped to put down unrest in Bahrain; and reform was embraced in Morocco and Jordan. But the Arab spring was met with stiff resistance in Syria, where protests were brutally put down by Bashar Assad’s regime, resulting in over 7,000 deaths so far. In Libya Muammar Qaddafi caused a civil war after he tried to crush an opposition movement that spread from Benghazi. NATO aircraft enforced a no-fly zone, endorsed by the Arab League, in support of the rebels. After a summer of conflict...
