In order for this problem to be solved, the process would be most effective if it begins on a lesser scale and builds up until people are able to realize the importance of avoiding fast food for their own health and the health of their children. As a way to begin this process, the first step would be to spread awareness about the disadvantages of eating fast food and healthier alternatives for these products. The probability of people being receptive to being told to quit consuming fast food cold turkey is extremely low, so the goal would be to inform people and allow them to make their own decision on the topic. Hopefully, these facts would influence a large number of people to cut back on their consumption, therefore allowing their children

...extent does the company depend of international customers? --The company’s primary customers are households. Breaking this category down further, the company has chosen to target the traditional fast food enthusiast. Also, Subway has targeted non-traditional customers at locations such as convenience stores and truck stops. In 2010, Subways revenues from global sales were 15.2 billion. Subway has around 37,000 stores in 100 countries, 23,334 being U.S. stores and 13,664 being international stores. This means that international stores account for around 36% of Subways sales, and as such international customers do play a role in revenue generation for Subway. (4) Discuss the major determinants of demand for the firm’s primary product. Explain your choice of variables. If necessary, describe how determinants differ across customer segments -- The demand of types of sandwiches depends on the weather and income level of the local community. In winter hot sandwiches including meatballs and chickens along with soups are in most demand while in summer sandwiches like orchard chicken (content: chicken, cranberry, apples, raisins-most of the cold contents) tuna fish and other cold sandwiches are sold more than any others. Also the subways in rich community’s sale diet conscious sandwiches like turkey, Italians, chicken while a highway or area containing labor communities experience higher sales of protein based subs like steaks and chicken breast. On the face of it, the plaintiff and others like him seem to be using the legal system to compensate for their own lack of control and common sense. Surely everyone should realize that a Big Mac is not a health food just as they should grasp that parking yourself in front of the TV for 28 hours a week -- as the average American does -- is not a healthful activity. What about personal responsibility? Aren't...

Fast Food Nutrition: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

...It would not be a surprise that television, internet, and any other kinds of ads of big fast food companies such as McDonalds® or Subway® have successfully advance their ideas of healthy foods in many of Americans. Yet all of these wealthy corporations, along with many other smaller companies, have many ways to sell their products. These methods could be underhanded loaded with jargon. Information of simple knowledge overfilled with confusing and sometimes random information that otherwise will be too insignificant for people to put an effort to learning about. There are also times where information is overly simplified and have no real background to make a worthy judgment. Amidst all of the fallacies in the fast food industry, there exist reliable sources of information. In recent years, there has been an increase of connecting ideas of the transformation of fasts foods. Although some arguments claim the reason is one clause over the other, some will divert and stray off topic. They exert random facts to either make the claim reasonable or by overflowing them with sources that seems reliable from authoritative figures. Rabin article “Proximity to Fast Food a Factor in Student Obesity” goes to say: Ninth graders whose schools are within a block of a fast-food outlet are more likely to be obese than students whose schools are a quarter of a mile or more away, according to a study of millions of schoolchildren by economists at the University of California and Columbia University...

Heritage Assessment

...Heritage Assessment A. Holm, RN Grand Canyon University: 429 V 08/24/2014 Heritage Assessment It is very important to address the heritage of every patient we become the caregiver for. This will ensure that we provide care that is culturally competent and gain the trust and respect of the patient and family. Since respect and trust are not given, but earned, addressing the fear everyone has upon having to depend on medical/nursing care for themselves or their family will put the patient at ease. Discussing and asking questions regarding heritage, religious preference, culture, race, gender, health promotion, health protection and health restoration shows respect for the whole person. This respect of the individual and their family will allow them to be participants in their own care without raising barriers because they will find out that we are trying to do what is best for their health. This will also allow us to complete a Care Plan that is specific and true to the individual and their needs. Introduction to Three Families Interviews were done with three families of differing culture, religion and race utilizing the Heritage Assessment Tool provided in the Week Three Assignment Guide. There were many laughs (such as all three couples stated, “condoms” when asked about health protection) during the interview as well as seriousness when speaking about deeply held beliefs and religious issues. All three families seemed to sincerely want to help with the understanding...

Mcdonaldization

...introduced to the market, or anytime footage of a unique event or an action in the world is shared in cyberspace for everyone to see; these are small affects of globalization in life. Globalization integrates economy and cultures of different regions of the world through trading, telecommunication, technology, human migration, and capital flows. Incentive of the integration may be economic, political, cultural, technological or humanitarian. George Ritzer’s invented term, McDonaldization, is a subset of the globalization phenomenon. Ritzer compares globalization with characteristic of a fast-food restaurant. The characteristic includes measuring efficiency by pace of serving customers, which means the fastest worker is the efficient one; getting a large amount of food in a very low price; receiving constant and predictable service from distinctively similar workers. Ritzer believes the fast-food characteristic is dominating different sectors of American society and the entire world. In fact, this is the irresistible effect of globalization. The phenomenon, which Ritzer calls McDonaldization, is neither new nor destructive; it is just how firms coexist in free comparative market. Accepting globalization instead of resisting it, would help to promote global prosperity. Educating different aspects and strength points of globalization and its impacts on economy, culture and politic would ease the acceptance. Globalization impacts the world economy with diverse effects. Roger A. Arnold...

Drinking Too Much Soda Research Paper

...worse over the years, Joe’s thirst for soda seemed unquenchable. When he eventually quit, he did so cold turkey, and recommends this method to other addicts. Some people think that drinking diet soda such as Diet Coke, Diet Dr.Peper will reduce the risk of having diseases and causing illness for the body. The opinion is a controversial one. A study shows that an average 12-ounce-can of Diet Coke contains about 45 mg of caffeine. Health Canada recommends that the amount of no more than 2.5 mg of caffeine per 2.2 lbs. of body weight a day. Likewise, an average 12-ounce-can of Diet Coke contains about 40 mg of sodium, which is 2 percent of the recommended daily intake. For all of those impacts below, American should give up on diet soda. Soda drink doesn’t help to weight loss but gain weight instead, because even when it lacks of sugar and high-fructose corn syrup, it still contains lots of forms of low-calorie or non-calorie artificial sweeteners (Squillace). Drinking diet soda is just like drinking plain water with additives and no nutritional value at all, then why not drinking water instead, which is more useful to body processing? To many people, drinking soda has been like a daily habit. It is too easy to buy soda and it is also too cheap. From Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser points out that soda is made for benefits to fast food chains. With the development of fast food, soda has become close friends of many people. ...McDonald's Food Chain Case Study It was early evening and one of the 25 McDonald's outlets in India was bustling with activity with hungry souls trooping in all the time. No matter what one ordered - a hot Maharaja Mac or an apple pie - the very best was served every time. But did anyone ever wonder as to how this US giant managed the show so perfectly? The answer seemed to lie in a brilliantly articulated food chain, which extended from these outlets right up to farms all across India. US-based fast food giant, McDonald's success in India had been built on four pillars: limited menu, fresh food, fast service and affordable price. Intense competition and demands for a wider menu drive-through and sit-down meals - encouraged the fast food giant to customize product variety without hampering the efficacy of its supply chain. Around the world (including India), approximately 85% of McDonald's restaurants were owned and operated by independent franchisees. Yet, McDonald's was able to run the show seamlessly by outsourcing nine different ingredients used in making a burger from over 35 suppliers spread all over India through a massive value chain. Between 1992 and 1996, when McDonald's opened its first outlet in India, it worked frenetically to put the perfect supply chain in place. It trained the local farmers to produce lettuces or potatoes to specifications and worked with a vendor to get the perfect cold chain in place. And explained to the suppliers precisely why only one particular...

Supply Chain

...Supply Chain of McDonald’s 5 Introduction 5 Incorporating Chill Zones – The McDonalds Cold Chain 6 Validation of McDonalds Cold Chain 8 McDonalds Suppliers and Distributors 10 Outsourcing of Ingredients 12 McDonald's Supply Chain – Challenges 19 Conclusion 20 References 21 Introduction McDonald's is the leading global foodservice retailer with more than 32,000 local restaurants serving more than 60 million people in 117 countries each day. More than 75% of McDonald's restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent local men and women. McDonald's predominantly sells hamburgers, various types of chicken sandwiches and products, French fries, soft drinks, breakfast items, and desserts. In most markets, McDonald's offers salads and vegetarian items, wraps and other localized fare. This local deviation from the standard menu is a characteristic for which the chain is particularly known, and one which is employed either to abide by regional food taboos (such as the religious prohibition of beef consumption in India) or to make available foods with which the regional market is more familiar (such as the sale of McRice in Indonesia). History The business began in 1940, with a restaurant opened by siblings Dick and Mac McDonald in San Bernardino, California. Their introduction of the "Speedy Service System" in 1948 established the principles of the modern fast-food restaurant. The present corporation dates its founding to the opening of a franchised restaurant...
