With the coming out of the mother’s womb, a newborn child bridges out, with the first sight hopefully being both of their mother and father. However, that “normal situation”, has had a tendency to lose it’s up hand of the bargain, from time to time. From here on out, in majority of the cases it happens to be the paternal figure that takes the representation of the absence progenitor figure. The wonder now comes to be; how can an absence of a parental figures alter the course of events among a child’s lifespan? From the first cries to the first heartbreak, not having a paternal figure can affect a child’s development due to altering a child’s ability into establishing attachment issues. He had already been well-aware with the situation, so much so, that he unknowingly attached himself with Romain, his older friend. Among every child whom, hasn’t been raised with at least one paternal figure, tends to direct themselves towards a replacement. A replacement, in which, the child will be able to talk about all their problems, in the confidence of the newly guidance figure. In regards to Michel, his replacement drifts to be laid out towards Romain’s character. According to the section called, Monkey Tails, Michel mentions, “Looking back now, I realize how much I needed someone like Romain in my life. He must have felt this too. Come to think of it, aside from Rosie and Vaval, who were always too busy with my mother’s chores to spend much time with me, Romain was my only friend” (Danticat, 144). In reference to Michel’s confession, it has been obviously shown, that Michel’s character unknowingly, has been fetching around somewhere for a paternal figure. Among the perception of past and telling the story from the present, entitles for the full recognition on Michel’s part to actually take intel and finally realize what Romain’s character, really was for
