Joseph, Father Elliot achieved his vision by encouraging parishioners to actively participate in achieving his objectives. His very first sermon urged parishioners to get involved, to do more than just attend church on Sunday (Grandy, 2013). One of goals of St. Joseph was to gain a stronger presence in the community. Father Elliot sent out a survey asking residents about their needed services. The results of that survey showed that the community lacked basic services like preschool programs and adequate healthcare (Grandy, 2013). Father Elliot, along with his parishioner, were able to precure the finances needed to construct a $2.5 million-dollar community center that offers “much needed services to the community including a wellness center, police services and leisure services” (Grandy, 2013). It allows leaders to focus on the future while addressing present issues. Protestant churches, though not profit driven, have many of same needs as public and private sector companies. They need to precure talented and willing workers, remain solvent, and satisfy the needs of their various stakeholders. As demonstrated by Faith Family Church and St. Joseph’s Parish, strategic leadership principles and concepts have already been integrated, to some degree, in these religious organizations. The two organizations have used the leadership method to handle many of their challenges including vision obtainment and ethical adherence. If Protestant churches in Kentucky rely more heavily on strategic leaders there may be an increase in attendance throughout the state. As previously stated, only a small portion of Kentucky’s residents reported attending church at least once a week. This mean there is an opportunity for Protestant churches to utilize strategic leadership to gain new attendees, increase their human capital and cash flow.
