In today society the view of fatherhood has changed in many ways. Fatherhood isn’t what it was back in the late 1950’s. Men in the late 1950’s were head of the house and mainly taking charge of the family roles, they did most of the outside task, disciplinarian in the family. Men in our current society are now stay at home dads, gay or straight, are adoptive or step parent to children. Men in the late 1950’ s had a lot of responsibilities many men would wear their business suites every morning and then come straight home, and be a father figure to their children, and a husband to their wife. During the late 1950’s it was a time where boys were strictly raised as boys and girls were also grown up to only know the roles of women. Many fathers are staying at home dads, which is something that was a drastic change in American culture. It was the mothers with higher paying jobs going to work as the father stays at home, and clean, cooks and other chores around the home. Many fathers are now single due to high divorce rate. Fatherhood in a homosexual relationship was not a common thing in the 1950’s. Some homosexual relationship will agree on adoption. Currently adoption between the same genders is becoming more accepted. If a homosexual in the 1950’s were willing to adopt a child it would have never happened or been accepted by many people. Fatherhood in our current society has accepted many different things that would have never been approved in the past fatherhoods. I feel that in our society today fathers are still highly praised. But I also feel that many fathers don’t have the high power over the family as they used to. Many spouses have equal power over each other and family, and what they think is right.
