...Project Feasibility The current state of affairs and ability for Kudler Fine Foods to initiate a frequent shopper program are at an all-time high. With an estimated net capital of just under two million dollars, Kudler can and should invest in the frequent shopper program to reward its customers. This program will ultimately sustain economic growth for other businesses as well, such as airline ticket sales, when Kudler offers this type of reward for its customers or other high end merchandise and specialty foods. Technically speaking, Kudler already has a system in place that records what is sold and to whom, (once the frequent shopper program takes place), and should be able to compensate this change in the system with the current information systems that they have in place. The only addition would be a customer database that would contain all pertinent information when the customer signs up for this program which will be kept confidential and not sold to third parties. Operations within the company should remain constant, or actually increase due to the outstanding benefits that the company is willing to offer its customers. With such fine rewards, the amount of customers should increase due to word of mouth advertising. Initially, the cost of inputting this system should be minimal, in the range of 25,000 dollars for setup and installation, promotional needs, and advertising costs. The added benefits of this program will far outweigh the costs of this startup...

...A Day at KeySpan Park Feasibility Study & Marketing Plan Executive Summary As a result of the Brooklyn Dodgers leaving New York to relocate to Los Angeles in 1957, the absence of baseball in Brooklyn created for a void within the community (Osborne, 2004). The Coney Island area needed something to help rebuild and rejuvenate the area. On June 25, 2001, baseball returned to Brooklyn “in the form of a Class A minor league franchise of the New York Mets,” (Person, 2001). Upon the introduction of the Brooklyn Cyclones, the void in which the Dodgers left was filled. There are many underprivileged neighborhoods in the areas surrounding KeySpan Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones. These neighborhoods include Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn Heights, Flatbush, East New York, as well as Brownsville. Sports have been an outlet for many children, and in some cases a way to stay out of trouble. Staging an All-Star One-Day event such as “A Day at KeySpan Park” would provide underprivileged youth with the opportunity of meeting major and minor league players, as well as the opportunity of playing with them. Following the mingling session, the Mets will play in a game vs. the Cyclones in which the children as well as their families can enjoy. Giving back to the community is the main focus of this proposed event, and it will create for awareness of Baseball. Choice of Place and Time One of the deciding factors in choosing KeySpan Park as the site of the event was the...

...It is very common for businesses and franchises to want to expand overseas to explore new market in different countries. Although this sounds good and beneficial, it comes with many difficulties and risks. It is guaranteed that in an organisations lifetime they will come across the decision to expand their business overseas to either make more money or just to expand business. All businesses that seek to do this will come across risks that they are going to have to take for it to work and be a benefit to them. It all depends on what type of business it is that seeks expansion. As stated earlier there are many risks that involve international expansion. A common problem that small businesses run into when they dabble with setting up international relationships, for example, is that they sometimes don’t really know who they’re dealing with. No matter where you go to, unless it an English speaking country, the language barrier is always going to be a problem. Even if you are able to access a translator to help it will still be hard to fully connect with other countries in terms of business. Another risk is not being familiar or accustom with their culture practises and etiquette. A big thing with expanding overseas is knowing where you are going and what they are like in that country because if you don’t you could run into trouble because some of the thing that are normal to people in their home countries can be an offence in other countries.one thing that ties in with that risk...

...Diabetes Prevention as the Best Intervention Lorri Johnson Grand Canyon University Diabetes Prevention as the Best Intervention With diabetes having become an epidemic that is still growing, we as a society and healthcare community are seeing its effects on the economy. The exorbitant costs associated with diabetes and complications of diabetes have hit an all-time high. “The total cost of diabetes and its complications, along with gestational diabetes and prediabetes, was estimated to be $218 billion in 2007.” (Anderson, Riley & Everette 2012) Healthcare professionals and diabetes advocates alike have begun pushing policymakers to recognize and take action with regard to focusing on the prevention of type 2 diabetes to slow down these costly trends. Clinical Trial The Diabetes Prevention Program (DDP) is a landmark National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases clinical trial which provided the best evidence indicating individuals at high risk for type 2 diabetes can prevent or delay the onset of the disease. The DDP was a major randomized trial that had the one simple goal, “to determine whether modest weight loss and physical activity could prevent or delay type 2 diabetes in individuals with prediabetes.” (Anderson, Riley & Everette 2012) The subjects were categorized randomly into the Metformin group and the Lifestyle group. It was the Lifestyle group that showed the greatest success. Results1 The Lifestyle...

...BUSINESS ETHICS CASE STUDY: GAS OR GROUSE? BY ARINDA OKTAVYASTI SATRIO HARYOSENO MASTER OF MANAGEMENT GADJAH MADA UNIVERSITY 2010 OVERALL Questar corporation is an energy company with asset valued at about $4 billion which is the main developer of the gas wells arround the Pinedale Mesa, an area that is famous at the gateway to the hunting, fishing, and hiking treasures. Ocassionally elk, mule deer, pronghorn antelope and other wild life, including the imperiled greater sage grouse, descent from their habitats atop the mesa and gingerly make their way around and between the questar wells around Pinedale. Not suprisingly, environmentalist are at war with questar, whose expanding operations are increasingly encroaching on the wild life habitats that lies atop the mesa. Yet the natural gas that questar pumps up from beneath the mesa is a desperately needed resource that provides the nation with clean and cheap source energy. CHRONOLOGICAL It was not until the mid 1990s industry developed techniques for fracturing the sandstone and freeing the gas In 1998, Questar Corporation drilled its first succesful test wall on the Pinedale Mesa. Before, it was not feasible because the gas was trapped in tightly packed sandstone that prevented it from flowing to the wells and no one knew how to get it out. In mid-2000, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) approved drilling up to 900 wells on federal lands sitting on a top of the Pinedale Mesa. By the beginning of 2004, Questar had drilled...

All rights reserved. Copyright © Siemens AG 2009. All rights reserved. 1 Abstract Clean and cost-effective power generation is of paramount importance to cope with the challenges imposed by an increasing energy demand throughout the world. Investment cost and fuel costs are the main contributors to the cost of electricity. In recent years, costs associated with CO2 emissions have attracted more and more attention due to its political awareness. The efficiency of the power plant as one key value affects both the fuel costs and the amount of CO2 emitted to the environment. As coal is more abundant in many parts of the world, coal prices are less volatile and more stable than natural gas prices. But larger CO2 emissions increase the need for more efficient coal-based power generation. Ultra supercritical (USC) steam power plants meet notably the requirements for high efficiencies to reduce both fuel costs and emissions as well as for a reliable supply of electric energy at low cost. Recent developments in steam turbine technology and high-temperature materials allowed for significant efficiency gains. Siemens has more than fifteen years of...

...Estimating the Costs of a Reengineering Project Harry M. Sneed Anecon GmbH, Vienna Austria Institut für Wirtschaftsinformatik, University of Regensburg, Bavaria Email: Harry.Sneed@T-Online.de Abstract: Accurate estimation of project costs is an essential prerequisite to making a reengineering project. Existing systems are usually reengineered because it is cheaper to reengineer them than to redevelop or to replace them. However, to make this decision, management must know what the reengineering will cost. This contribution describes an eight step tool supported process for calculating the time and the costs required to reengineer an existing system. The process is derived from the author’s 20 year experience in estimating reengineering projects and has been validated by several real life field experiments in which it has been refined and calibrated. Keywords: Reengineering, cost estimation, risk analysis, software measurement, gap analysis. It has been 15 years since the first studies on the economics of software reengineering projects appeared and since then a great deal of research has been done and a wide range of practical experience gathered.[1] At that time, reengineering projects were being calculated on the basis of the size alone, without consideration of complexity and quality. In the meantime, we have learned a lot more about how the complexity and quality of the software effect reengineering costs. The topic of estimating the costs of...
