Ang pangunahing pagkakaiba sa pagitan ng Multilateral at bilateral libreng kalakalan kasunduan (FTA) ay ang bilang ng mga kalahok. Multilateral na kalakalan kasunduan sangkot na tatlo o higit pang mga bansa nang walang pagtatangi-tangi sa pagitan ng mga kasangkot, samantalang ang bilateral kalakalan kasunduan ay binubuo sa pagitan ng dalawang bansa. Ang parehong mga bansa na may mga tiyak na mga pribilehiyo para sa halimbawa; mayroon silang kanais-nais na pag-import quota kung saan ay hindi magagamit para sa iba pang mga kasosyo sa kalakalan at para lamang sa dalawang mga bansa kung saan ay mayroon ang bilateral kontrata. Mga halimbawa para sa bilateral libreng kalakalan kasunduan ay ang Australian - New Zealand FTA at ang Canada - Estados Unidos FTA (Diksyunaryo ng Pampulitika Ekonomiya, 2006; Onpulson, 2006).
Multilateral na negosasyon ay ang pinaka-epektibong paraan ng liberalizing kalakalan sa isang interdependent pandaigdigang ekonomiya, dahil konsesyon sa isa bilateral o rehiyonal na deal maaaring papanghinain konsesyon ginawa sa isa pang kasosyo ng kalakalan sa isang mas maagang deal. Mahalaga rin na banggitin na sa ilalim ng Multilateral na kalakalan kasunduan, rehiyonal na kalakalan arrangement maganap at mga halimbawa ng mga ito ay mga North American Kasunduan Libreng kalakalan (NAFTA) at ang European Union (EU). Ang pinakamahalagang organisasyon ukol sa Multilateral na negosasyon, mga kasunduan at mga kontrata ay ang WTO. Organisasyong ito nagmamay-ari ng isang pinag-isang pakete ng mga kasunduan kung saan lahat ng mga miyembro ay nangangako at nagpapatupad ng pandaigdigang mga panuntunan para sa internasyonal na kalakalan. Ang pinaka-mahalagang mga kinakailangan ay upang mabawasan ang mga hadlang sa kalakalan sa pagitan ng mga bansa at upang ma-secure na miyembro ng bansa ay kumikilos sa loob ng paunang-natukoy na mga panuntunan. Ang Pangkalahatang Kasunduan sa Tariffs at Trade (GATT) ay ang pangunahing Multilateral na kontrata sa pagitan ng WTO mga miyembro (Farm Foundation, 2002, ITCD online 2004, Carbaugh, 2004).
Ang isang Multilateral na kontrata ay nagpapahiwatig alituntunin na kung saan ang minimum at maximum na presyo ng pagbili ay naka-set, kaya na mga importer ay may isang pahiwatig ng garantisadong mga dami ng pagbili at para sa paggawa ng bansa upang malaman kung ano ang garantisadong halaga ay ang kanilang ibenebenta sa mga importer.
Ang nasabing kontrata maghatid ng bentahe sa pamamagitan ng isang presyo-stabilize ng aparato, na nagiging sanhi ng mas mababa pagbaluktot sa market mekanismo at ang paglalaan ng mga mapagkukunan. Ang ganitong uri ng kontrata ay hindi naglalaman ng mga paghihigpit at may kasamang o pagpapahusay ng pag-unlad ng mas mahusay na mga producer na may mababang halaga. Ang suporta ng limitadong katatagan market ay humahantong din sa kalamangan na bansa ay maaaring ipasok o bawiin medyo madali nang walang iba't-ibang mga problema.
Disadvantages ng FTAs kumpara sa Multilateral na kalakalan kasunduan

-Bilateral Kasunduan kadalasang humahantong sa 'kalakalan diversion', sa na ang mga kasosyo ilihis ang layo ng mga produkto na maaaring higit cheaply ng presyo sa pabor ng mga produkto mula sa kasosyo ng FTA, kahit na ang mga ito ay hindi cheaply-presyo, kaya na nagreresulta sa inefficiency. -In Isang FTA sa pagitan ng isang binuo bansa at pagbuo ng isang bansa o mga bansa, sa huli ay karaniwang sa isang weaker posisyon bargaining dahil sa kawalan ng kakayahan ng kanilang ekonomiya, ang kanilang mga weaker sitwasyon pampulitika, at ang kanilang mga mapagkukunan weaker pakikipag-ayos.
-In Ang WTO, ang mga prinsipyo ng espesyal at pagkakaiba paggamot, at mas mababa sa buong reciprocity, ay kinikilala. Praktikal na disadvantages ng FTAs
-FTAs Magdudulot lamang pang-ekonomiyang kalamangan kapag sila ay negotiated sa mga bansa kung saan ay makabuluhang mga kasosyo sa kalakalan. Ang relatibong maliit na antas ng kalakalan na may someprospective mga kasosyo ay sa nakalipas na naging isa kadahilanan deterring ang Australian

FTAs makakapagpataas rin ang pagiging kumplikado ng mga internasyonal na sistema ng kalakalan at maaaring taasan
Nagkakahalaga ng transaksyon para sa negosyo.
