...Topic Notes: Windows 8 Introduction Windows 8 in history With the rapid acceptance of small powerful touch-based devices and the rapidly growing market for such devices, Microsoft had to react by developing an operating system capable of competing, while at the same time leveraging the greater part of the existing Windows XP and Windows 7 operating system functionality. Windows 8 story – Windows reimagined On first look, Microsoft seem to have created two operating systems in one, but further examination reveals that they have simply created a new touch supporting interface which gives the user a broader range of services and features. Windows 8 supports the new immersive Windows 8 UI application type and traditional desktop applications – allowing users to work with centralized services and other remote users, and to synchronize data between their desktops and their Windows phone or cloud presence provided by the SkyDrive feature. The classic Start button has been replaced by the new Windows 8 Start screen, while the classic and familiar Windows 7 desktop is retained and continues to support traditional desktop applications. The new Windows 8 Search feature takes the Windows search service to a new level of sophistication and ease of use, and searches can be applied to the system or within the Windows 8 UI application that you are currently working on. Several features of the Windows 8 operating system are designed to operate with remote services and social networking...

The install only took 30 minutes to finish up. The computer I use is for personal use. Windows 8 has five neat features that make it stand out from other systems. The first one is the speed it boots on. It boots up much quicker than previous version of windows. The second feature is the innovative and dynamic desktop. It has a tile based interfaced layout. At first glance it appears like a handheld device that is touchable. Windows 8 features many applications on the computer and ones you can download from the store itself. It has a grid layout which facilitates these interactions. The grid is completely customizable to. The third feature of windows 8 is the improved search function. Windows 8 does not have a search box at the bottom of the start menu. The new search function makes it easier to find anything without having to click on different things while searching. The search capability will display app and matching files. I used to have windows 7 and it was much more work to search. The fourth feature of this operating system is windows to go. This feature is convenient for users, because users can make a copy of their OS complete with settings, wallpapers, files and apps. It can be used and complete with the use of a thumb drive. Moreover, the best fit operating system can be determined depended on the individual’s or organization’s needs. Operating System Requirements Windows XP The system requirements for Windows XP Home Edition and Professional Edition are the same. These requirements are a PC with a 233 megahertz or higher (a 300 megahertz + processor speed is recommended), 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher (128 MB is recommended), 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard drive space, a video adapter and monitor that is Super VGA (800x600) or higher-resolution, CD/DVD-ROM drive, keyboard, and mouse/pointing device. The Windows XP Starter Edition has different system requirements. These are 233MHz processor or better, 256 MB of RAM, Super VGA (800x600) video adapter and monitor, CD/DVD-ROM drive, keyboard, mouse/pointing device, DirectX 9 graphics with 32 MB of graphics memory, and Internet access is highly recommended. Although Windows XP has minimum system requirements, it also has limits on the physical memory. The maximum RAM supported for the Starter Edition is 512 MB. ...Coyle Final K Matthew Coyle 9/22/2013 English C100--Mr. Davis Ad Analysis The Windows Phone: Smoked by the Competition In today’s fast-paced world, advertisements aim to convey a strong message in a single glance. Minimal wording and clever use of tools such as rhetorical, narrative, and genre focused aims help convey meaning in advertisements and successfully get a message across. The aim of this Windows Phone advertisement is to catch the eye of “gamers”. This is appealing to internet users that are attracted to some sort of action genre to convey that their device might be “superior” to a competitor. This advertisement uses a simple, minimal message to target its audience but leaves many questions and effectively ignores other audiences. When Microsoft designed this ad, the designer picked a color scheme to flow like the sky with a dash of smoke. The phone itself features App blocks or windows to match the background color to imply that the phone might be customizable (which is a common feature on any competitor’s phone.) Maybe the implication they are trying to convey is that the device would “smoke the competition in the sky”? I’m personally not too fond of the message. This Window’s phone ad has a very direct message but does not show the reader any feature of the device where it has “smoked the competition”. This message would be used primarily to target gamers, young adults, and cheesy action movie lovers where someone “smokes” the competition. The problem...

...using is windows 7. The service pack in my windows 7 is service pack 1. Windows 7 has many features that make it well windows 7. The first one is Windows Aero, which they tweaked just a little bit from Windows vista to windows 7. The second feature is the gadgets. Unlike windows vista, in windows 7 they do away with the sidebar and just have free floating gadgets on the side of the desktop. The third feature is the modified start menu, which was not changed much from windows vista. The fourth feature is the taskbar, which has been there for quite some time through the years. The final feature is windows explorer, which has added libraries to it. The first feature that has changed a little is windows aero. They didn’t change windows aero much but making some minor changes to the color scheme and graphics. Finally it is much smoother than what is was in windows vista. The second feature that has changed is the gadgets. They tweaked how some of the gadgets looked. Finally they also took away the side bar and made the gadgets free floating, which this makes them look more appealing to the eyes. The third feature that has changed a little is the start menu. They haven’t done much to the start menu over the years. It still helps you navigate through your programs and certain folders and features. You can do all of this without having to dive to deep into your computer. They didn’t change much of the start menu from vista to 7 other than adding some stability. Windows vista had...

...upgrade to would be Windows 7. The main reason I would recommend Windows 7 or 8 would be that windows 8 is designed to work best with touch screen system, like tablets and phones. It ok on desktops and notebook computer but unless your company has touch screen monitors it is a waste of money (Diberdayakan, 2013). The next reason is that Windows 7 is very user friendly and the layout is similar to Windows XP, where if you switch to Windows 8 you might confuse your employees and will have to train them on how to navigate Windows 8. Window 7 also incorporates many security features that your company might find useful. One of these security features is BitLocker which can encrypt your drives (Microsoft). Another would be the cost of the Operating system with Windows 8 you can now get Window 7 for less money. Driver support and software support is also important. Windows 7 has been out for some time now, but is still fairly new, so you will not have a problem with drivers. Windows 8 is still a little to new and some drivers do not work properly (Diberdayakan, 2013). Last would have to be like Window XP there is so much more software available for Window 7 currently then there is now for Windows 8. Much of the software that you use on XP will work on Windows 7 (Andreas, 2009), which will save your company money not having to upgrade your software so that it works on Windows 8. And finally you will not have to change from Window Sever 2003 it is compatible with Windows 7 as long as you...

...will take a look at in this report are: MacOS Sierra, Ubuntu, and Windows 8. MacOS Sierra was initially released on September 20, 2016. It is the thirteenth release of MacOS, which is Apple’s operating system for Mac computers. Sierra is preceded by OS X El Capitan and succeeded by MacOS High Sierra. It is named after the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California, the home of Apple. Sierra has some pros to it. One pro is that it is a smooth, easy, and free upgrade from its predecessor OS X El Capitan. Sierra also performs better than El Capitan. Another pro to Sierra is that it integrated Siri, an assistant which uses user voice input to answer questions, make recommendations, and perform actions. A third pro to Sierra is that it added support for Apple Pay, a payment and digital service that lets users make secure purchases and send and receive money from others. The final pro I will mention is Sierra’s enhanced security features. One example of this is that a user can now unlock a Mac using an Apple Watch. In addition to its pros, Sierra also has...
