...think so as to recycle all kinds of emotions into this moment all over again. We very well know how it does feel when we are ecstatic about something, or when we are embarrassed, or sometimes get a shock of our lives, sometimes feel like crying our hearts out or sometimes plain bored to death. We can relate to all kind of feelings that ranges between these exaggerated memes, can’t we? But how do you relate if you were a robot? I would say that this is where you would feel the hint of a brainteaser, even if I assume your IQ to surpass Einstein’s. The fact that there is even a problem here seem to elude most people, it's hard to realize what it is and even harder to explain it. There is this default position that consciousness is, in principle, knowable and explainable in the framework of modern neurology and that there are no reasons to think otherwise. But did I mention earlier that I, for some daunting series of events, have started conceiving myself as a robot?! You might and should guffaw over this, but I want to experience these emotions all over again as a robot. So without humoring any soul, it’s understood that I’m a robot. My creator was some anonymous robotics genius (say Dr. X) who wants to know from me what pain feels like, since he/she has lost all stimuli out of a long illness. That was pathetic wasn’t it? But how would I know, I’m just a robot. Can a Robot feel pain? I talk to...

...According to Wikipedia, culture shock is a feeling of disorientation when experiencing an unfamiliar way of life due to immigration or a visit to a new country. Personally, when I first came to States, the primary problem that I have is the language barrier even though I have learnt American English for years at my homeland. What came along with this discomfort of communication are homesickness, information overload and boredom. These are the most sympathetic signs of my disorientation from own experiences. Fortunately, as Internet has become a cheap technology that make the globe into a small village and meanwhile everything has been easily accessible through online, I feel much more relaxed and adaptable when facing this culture obstacle. The way we browse the news, watch videos and shop online are exactly the same everywhere in the world, and this has brought me a lot of benefits of orienting myself into the American culture. Despite the technology has given me lots of convenience, there are still many differences in various respects including education, transportation, having food and shopping in terms of cultural distinction. Before coming to USA, my schedule was basically aligned with my job, five days at work and two days off. I preferred to shop online on Friday so that I can receive my purchases on Saturday morning or noon. In the weekends, I spent most of my time on my hobbies, I like catching up with my friends in a big shopping mall and going out of town...

The regular text is simply directions for the teacher. > > > > Basic Teaching Plan < < < < Introduction: Begin the class by greeting each student. Ask them to try to think of a time when someone said something that made them feel really good. What did they say? Allow a few students to share. Now, have them think of a time when someone said something to them that did not make them feel good. Write this question on the board (or just say it out loud) “Do the words that you say matter?” Allow the kids to consider this for a few minutes, possibly with a partner. Then lead a discussion about how the words we say affect those around us. In conclusion, the words we say have to power to make people feel a certain way, and we must always use our words to build people up. Biblical Evidence: Ask the class to open their Bibles to Proverbs 12:18-22. Read verse 12:18 with the class. Say, This verse helps us compare helpful words with hurtful words. We use reckless words when we just say something without thinking about how it may make the other person feel. When we stop and think before we speak, and we put the other...

...Lies lies and more lies 10/13/2014 The screeching of the lie hurts my ear. My biggest fear is now standing in the clear. With his bold face and nice smile Whispering to me, telling me you care when I know you don’t Crushing my inside by all the lies you told Lies lies and more lies I see you coming. I can smell you from a mile away, I know your enticing sweet scent because it’s something I use to wear. I used to hug and hold you, breathe you and feel you Your lying consumes me, it is now a part of me Those bitter-sweet lies on my tongue, leaves me so numb. Lies lies and more lies I’m young and confounded, still telling lies and just can’t rewind it. Just can’t stand it sometimes bursting to come out, clouding my vision with doubt. Lies lies and more lies Trust issues were the tissues he left behind. I know healing takes time and I’m fine with that, as a matter of fact, I can toast to that. Don’t cover me with a lie, it’s a blanket I don’t need. Lies lies and more lies We reap what we sow, trust me I should know. I told so many lies it’s now a constant shadow What began as one, turned into a few. Like a speeding train on an endless track, the first lie was impossible to retract. His lies caressed my mind, harden my heart, changed my soul, lying has taken its toll. Watch what you say and say what you mean. Lying has a need only the week can feed. Lies lies and more lies...

...Feel me. It wasn’t the same as before and it would not be happening again, ever. It’s funny to think that we had been strangers before; during and after the love game we used to have. It had taken me months to get over with it because I thought I couldn’t replace you. But then I know I’m wrong. You don’t deserve me. I deserve someone much, much better, someone who’ll not make me feel like I was the worst girl ever, someone who can respect me and someone who is sensitive to my feelings. He’ll never hurt me like you do, compare me to other girls and move on so fast in just a snap of the wind. I had tried fixing those broken friendship that we had built a long time ago. But things aren’t agreeing on my side. I just want to be your friend and go back to those days that we are so close to each other without any malice. But then you’re the one who’s making this hard for us. I don’t know where your cruelty had begun and I don’t know when it will end. I don’t even know the reason behind your unmanly ways. I’m trying to start a conversation but then you started calling me nonsense. I was devastated because I never heard you say that to me once upon a time. And then I realize, I just don’t know you at all. Vice-versa. I don’t know why and I don’t know how but I want to regret everything we once had. The notebook, planters, crown pendant, brownies, cookies, my princess, etc. now I realize, it’s all a joke. You used me but then I had become so blind, I was blinded by the light of love...

...Michael Emanuel 1-24-16 Fr. Bartus AP Euro paper Democrat Presidential Candidate The Democrats have a very small and monotonous selection of candidates. Yes, they could have the first woman president in Hillary Clinton, but besides that fact, you have a 74-year-old white man and Martin O’Malley. Where are the energetic young progressives that form the Democrat party? Where is the Barack Obama type of candidate for the Democrats? It may be hard to believe that that candidate is Bernie Sanders. Sanders is the 74-year-old man I was talking about before. No Democrat candidate connects with millennials and younger people better than Bernie Sanders. Clinton attempts to connect but fails miserably. This fact is seen by her trying to use just emojis in Twitter posts. Bernie Sanders promises a brighter future for younger people. He does this by promising three things: getting big money out of politics, Medicare for all, and income and wealth equality. Getting big money out of politics is a huge deal, especially considering the state that politics is in right now. Six years ago in, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Supreme Court decided to give the right to own the government over to the wealthy. This decision made corrupt politics ever more corrupt. We now live in a country dominated by the wealthy, but this was not how America was established. We live in a country based on democracy. Right now, the only way to participate in our country’s politics is to have...

...How the Nurse Feels For this assignment I will analyze the short story “How the Nurse Feels”, an American shorty story from 1998. ”How the Nurse Feels”, written by Greg Changnon is about a girl named Tess. We begin in medias res, where she’s rehearsing the play “Romeo and Juliet”. Although she only has to say eighty-eight lines she finds her role as Juliet’s nurse difficult “Juliet is easy: ruled by her parents but led by her heart. But the nurse is a different story “(p.1, l. 3-4). The main problem is that Tess never felt the loss of anyone, something the nurse has by losing her own daughter Susan, whom she replaces with Juliet. The school is closed because of the massive amounts of snow and Tess has to call Tiger and inform him about the news. Tess likes him, in a teenage kind of way:”I imagine him smiling. There’s four miles of hard-packed snow between us but I’ve never felt so close.” (p. 3 ll. 53-54) . He’s in the play as well, but only as a minor character. At the end Tess is told by her acting teacher, Mr. Swick, that Tiger is dead, he fell in a window well while shovelling snow. From that moment on she’s the nurse. Superficially, Tess seems to live a rather normal life some would say even boring. Her father is a priest and her mother owns a fabric store. The future of Tess is predicted by her parents, once she grauates college she will take over her mother’s store. But Tess has ambitions of her own “I want to live in New York City. I want to worry about rent...

...------------------------------------------------- How the Nurse Feels “As the nurse, I have eighty-eight lines, appear in eleven of twenty-four scenes, and, unfortunately, I have no costume changes. From what I know, most of Shakespeare’s women don’t”(page 2, line 12) is a quote from the teenager Tess, the main character in Greg Changnon’s short story How the Nurse Feels from 1998. Everyone can relate to the grief of Romeo and Juliet, but the nurse does not play a significant part in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, which makes it hard for Tess to imagine how the nurse feels and therefore how to play her role. In this short story, however, Changnon uses symbolism to throw light on feelings from characters we might miss out on when we normally read or watch the world famous tragedy. How the nurse feels is about the high-school student, Tess, who is playing the role of the nurse in the school production of Romeo and Juliet. In the very middle of her struggle finding out how to act her part, there is another drama taking place outside. Bad weather conditions have postponed the play and cancelled school, and suddenly Tiger De Soto, a minor performer in the play, has disappeared. Tess seems like a typical high school student, living a life with the relatable struggles of a teenager; parents with expectations, boring environment and confusing romantic feelings. She seems attracted to the boy Tiger, whom she barely knows and when she finds out that he has disappeared, she...

...The short story “How the Nurse Feels” by Greg Changnon was first published in 1998. It treats of universal themes such as growing up and how the transition from child to adult is not always an easy or desired process. The adult world can seem alien and impossible to identify with but through the story it is told how a single event can alter the perception of it. It also deals with the boundary between fiction and reality which can be quite blurred especially at this transitioning age. While fiction can help us understanding the world around us, the short story also stresses the importance of life experience in order to fully understand the fiction. These are all things the main character, Tess, has to deal with. Tess is playing the Nurse in her school’s staging of William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”. She is a fifteen year-old girl who lives in Winetka with her parents. Her father is a priest and her mother owns a fabric store. It is a very isolated community which bores and frustrates Tess: “Neither of them […] know what it’s like to have your whole world contained in the tenblock radius of the church, school, home, and the fabric store. This, I know, is why I act. I have to feel what it’s like in somebody else’s skin.”1 Tess desperately wants to leave Winetka and craves a more exiting existence in New York: “I want to worry about rent and the smelly man who sits on my doorstep. I want to have three lovers at three different theatres, one suicidal and the other two Caribbean”2...

...My entire life, I’ve never been a fan of writing. In fact I still am not. I’ve loathed all my English classes. In school I’m asked to read an excerpt and write a fifteen hundred-word commentary on what the author feels. And I’d sit there for those two hours blank. I’d re-read the excerpt a countless number of times but I still wont seem to hack it. I never felt what the author’s trying to portray. I spent days and nights questioning my integrity, thinking there’s something severely wrong with me. Considering I’m the most verbose student in my class but when it comes to writing, I step back into this void. Words just can’t seem to express what I feel. Rather, words can’t express what I don’t feel. However, what never stops to amuse me is the fact that English for the past two years has been a subject I truly cherish. Stepping away from the daily grind of what my high school has to offer, my English class is like a gateway to “salvation”. Just simply reading a book doesn’t do the trick; it’s the analytical part that intrigues me. For example, before I begin reading a book, or poetry I research on the background of the writer. The time period they were writing their work, what situation politically and personally we’re they in. And once all this information is acquired, I begin my quest. I gauge reading as a puzzle. The words in a book are my pieces, and once put together I have a masterpiece of a story entailing not only a contemporary period, but also at a sublime level of what...
