...Rachel Parson Eth 125 Week 9 Dec. 18, 2012 This is what I had learned about Cultural Diversity in the United Stated to help me better understand and relate to others is people are different and coming from different backgrounds and culture, people are similar even though they are coming from all over the world. When I moved to Portland Maine about a year ago, I was surprised to learn there were many African Refugees that new to the United States; they had moved to moved for better benefits. They are presented in their African clothing, which are brightly colored somewhat sheets that they wrap around their bodies and heads, which is very appealing. When it was hot outside, I could not figure out how they could stand the heat. I then remembered that they are from Africa, and their clothing style is very important to them like it is here in the United States with our catchy styles and brand name products, we are very similar and the same, wanting to look fashionable. Learning that coming from a White Irish racial background, in Ireland there are two groups of Irish people. The Southern Irish people are Protestants and the Northern Ireland (ie Belfast, Donegal, Derry) are Catholics and have been many battles and bloodshed over this religious conflict that still although not in the same intensity as today, however, it is still going on and major issue. Irish people have a tendency to like to drink a large amount and know how to enjoy themselves. They are very kind...

...Quality or quantity, which is more important? Viewers of local news station live in communities; they are families. They would want to hear about their local park closing three days a week, but a celebrity death is tempting gossip. While the death may affect a few viewers the park story affects them as a whole. As the director of the local news station I would run the park closing story because it affects the viewer much more than a celebrity death, poses hassles for viewers, and it is the stations responsibility to keep local news relevant to the viewers. A local park closing three days a week affects everyone in the surrounding communities. Parents, grandparents, and children will have to find other things to do on the days that the park is closed. When children get off from school they have an abundance of energy from sitting in one spot for most of the day. The local park is a safe place for them to exert this energy. The closing could cause more kids to play in the streets, find dangerous places to play, or become less active. The delivery of this story could help lessen the stress on those community members. The local news station has a responsibility to inform viewers of upcoming events that will directly affect them. A celebrity death does not create any hassles for viewers; they are often occurrences. The park closing story poses a few hassles: Parent’s may have to drive farther for after school sports, rearrange schedules to accommodate this change, and be more aware...

...How Genetics Affect Criminal Behavior Lynn Wigtion English Comp 2 4/27/2003 Amy DeBolt The human behavioral system is neither environmentally or genetically determined, but does have potentials that come through interaction of the environment and genes (Jones, pg.87). Concerning criminal behavior, many people want to blame the parents, or the individual’s upbringing, especially if it is a child or a teen committing a crime. Others want to blame social media and gaming or our society. While all of these can play a role in criminal behavior, so does genetics. Let’s repeat that, genetics play a role in criminal behavior, not make a person become a criminal. Genes do not cause behavior, but they affect tendencies to behave in certain ways (Nurnberger, Aug 10, 2006, para. 3). Anything can influence an individual to act and behave like a criminal, but those things do not make individuals commit crimes. That is entirely a choice. Genes contribute to an individual’s patterns because genes affect learning. Saying that something is influenced genetically is not saying environmental factors are not relevant. Saying a behavior is influenced genetically is not saying that it is unalterable or inevitable. “A predisposition is not predestination (Jones, pg87). Several components that contribute to criminal behavior are looked at; however, genetic factors are often overlooked as an important attribute. Some genetic influences are children who have behavior or disruptive disorders...

...Migration Strategies and Solutions Taekwonda Bowman 10/18/2011 SCI/275 Laquoyah McDaniel The atmosphere is full of many pollutants that affect our health. Air pollution has been a problem for a very long time. No one really seems to think that the little things that they do hurt the air that we breathe. We deal with pollutants inside and outside of the home. Some are self-made and others due to nature, or natures creatures. Every day, the average person inhales about 20,000 liters of air. Every time we breathe, we risk inhaling dangerous chemicals that have found their way into the air. Air pollution includes all contaminants found in the atmosphere. These dangerous substances can be either in the form of gases or particles. Air pollution can be found both outdoors and indoors. Pollutants can be trapped inside buildings, causing indoor pollution that lasts for a long time (Library.thinkquest.org). The biggest source of air pollution comes from fossil fuels, burning power plants and automobiles. These two contribute to about 90% of the pollution that is in the air. Too many vehicles and factories that run off of fossil fuels omit so much pollution that it create health problems for people, or make existing health problems worse. Even the chemicals that we use to clean our homes or wash our cars release toxins in the air that pollute the atmosphere. Cars give of lots of pollutants due to gas consumption and if the car is not kept up, the engine release old oils or burning...
