...used to communicate within an office, such as between attorneys on the same side of a case.” Legal Writing: How to Write Legal Briefs, Memos, and Other Legal Documents in a Clear and Concise Style. Ed Amanda Martinsek (2009) NY: Kaplan Publishing An analysis of the law. The goal is to explain to the reader what the law says/requires in a particular area. “A memorandum might be written, for example, after a client has asked whether a lawsuit would be worth commencing. It would be used most immediately for advice to the client. If the result is a suit, some parts of the memorandum might be read again when the complaint is drafted. The memorandum might be consulted a third time when the attorney responds to a motion to dismiss; a fourth time while drafting interrogatories; a fifth time before making a motion for summary judgement; a sixth time before trial; and a seventh time in preparing an appeal.” Neumann, R.K.Jr p65 What should a memo include? ...EXAMINATION OF DUTY AND SELF CONTROL IN THE ODYSSEY Aashna Jamal INTRODUCTION Under the rule of Zeus, events did not occur in isolation but in interdependence causing there to be a flux in the totality of events and the whole drama being played on a cosmic plane. The central theme of Zeus’s rule is the preservation of his “ oikos” or household management where the prevalence of order over Chaos is of utmost importance. In this paper, using the Odyssey as a case study, I will examine the thematic importance of the decisions taken by a hero in accordance to or defiance of self control and pietas and the consequences they lead to. These expectations are clearly marked out for the reader who waits in anticipation to garner the fate of the hero. I will analyse the themes of self control and pietas or duty in the Odyssey and discuss their special significance in this epic. I will then briefly talk about the Hindu concept of duty or Dharma with reference to the Ramayana. I however do not intend to use the concept of monomyth coined by Joseph Campbell also referred to as the hero's journey(which is a basic pattern that its proponents argue is found in many narratives from around the world.) in comparing these epics. The example of the Ramayana will only serve my purpose of highlighting the theme of duty in mythologies across the world. Lastly, I will conclude with the importance of inspecting these themes because of their significance to the plotline. Georg Wissowa notes that pietas was...

...Research Method One 7th July, 2016 Accra, Ghana How do you choose a good research topic? Give 5 examples of a good research topic and justify your choices, i.e. problem issues in each topic and why they must be researched upon. (Not less than 2000 words). 1. Research defined The Oxford English Dictionary, 2002, defines research as ‘the systematic study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions’. According to Zina O’Leary, 2004, a research is a process that needs to be actively managed. The main aim of research is to find out the truth which is hidden and has not yet been discovered. Research is therefore undertaken to gain familiarity with new insights into a phenomenon (i.e., formative research studies); to accurately portray the characteristics of a particular individual, group, or a situation (i.e., descriptive research studies); to analyse the frequency with which something occurs (i.e., diagnostic research studies); and to examine the hypothesis of a causal relationship between two variables (i.e., hypothesis-testing research studies). 1.2 Research topic defined According to Laura Morrison, 2014, a research topic is an idea or theory that is expressed as a statement, a contention for which evidence is gathered and discussed logically. One of the most important concerns in choosing a thesis topic is that the topic speaks to an area of current or future demand. A research topic should be...

...Ethical Vignette Paper Rashanda Joe Liberty University Abstract This paper presents a summary of the Counseling in Therapy video. In the video the actors discuss real life cases where the Supreme Court Judge had to rule on topics such as: exceptions to confidentiality, privilege, reporting, and the duty to warn. This writer will also discuss her finding s about the statures and laws as they pertain to North Carolina and give a summary of each. Finally the writer will discuss her reflection and how she could put these to action in her counseling career. Summary The video presentation was very interesting. It allowed actors to discuss real cases to give a better understanding about Confidentiality, Privilege, Reporting, and the Duty to Warn. It gave a clear picture of how these things, though they may sound similar are quite different in many ways. The first case was about a young boy was taken to the hospital by his foster parents. He was unconscious with bruises down the spine of his back and a bruise under his eye. When the nurse questioned her about it she stated that it was from being jostled in his car seat. The nurse did not make any note of that observation nor did she call CPS to report possible abuse as she believed what she was told by the foster mother. Dominic was then brought back to the hospital four days later suffering from head trauma and then died. Nurse Brown was being charged with a crime for failure to report the abuse. It is noted...

...Assignment 1: First Fidelity Bancorporation (A) Aim This paper analyzes1 the situation First Fidelity Bancorporation (FFB) currently faces and recommends a course of action for consideration. Summary of Current Situation Key issues FFB’s operating efficiency is low2 due to our decentralized holding company structure and cumbersome decision-making process. FFB is currently unable to meet the increasingly stringent government regulations for asset quality and capital requirements, and is also being pressured to develop standardized products and global banking capability. The operational structure has to be rationalized and consolidated to increase productivity, reduce expenses, and improve management control information. The consolidation will have to be accomplished within 18 months, after which the government is likely to vigorously enforce the new requirements. In addition to the tight timeframe for consolidation, other complexities include (a) the possibility of FFB being acquired3, and (b) capital crunch due to the worsening economy. Priorities FFB’s immediate priorities are to cut costs and integrate Information Systems (IS) processes, while long-term priorities include the ability to support acquisitions and the ability to standardize product and service offerings. As such, the consolidation solution has to be both cost-effective and timely, while being able to digest acquired institutions more efficiently. Rationalization Options The rationalization can be done in-house...

...action by President Obama in 2010, the plan in summary increases the quality, accessibility, and affordability of healthcare in the United States (Democratic Party). When signed into law, Obamacare was not well-received by the right-side Republicans, who typically advocate for privatization of government services, especially healthcare. This could be seen in typically right-leaning states, where there was some discussion as to whether or not Obamacare was Constitutional, due to the omission of healthcare laws in the Constitution (not taking into account that the idea of universal healthcare did not exist in the 18th century). Many states even threatened to sue the government over the healthcare issue. Unfortunately, the states and Congress are still arguing over this issue, and it will most likely not be resolved by the time President Obama leaves office in January of 2017. Another Amendment that has caused some dissent in recent times has been the Fourteenth Amendment. This Amendment, one of the multiple instated during Reconstruction after the Civil War, extends ‘equal protection of the law’ to all citizens, of course conveniently leaving out women (Cornell University). This has most recently been applied to the Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges, a case which ruled on the legalization of same-sex marriages in all states and territories of the United States (American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio). A landmark decision, the case gave legal rights to those in the thirteen states...

...CONFIDENTIALITY, PRIVILEGES, MANDATED REPORTING AND DUTY TO WARN Name of Student Institutional affiliation Abstract In this paper, I will be focusing on a brief summary of a therapy video that delves into counseling. Actors in this video are looking at real life cases involving high court ruling on issues such as confidentiality, privilege, reporting and the duty to warn. I will also look at my own findings in statures and laws as far as North Carolina is concerned. Additionally, I will give a summary of each. Finally, I will discuss my reflection and how I can put these into action in my counseling career. The presentation of this video is quite interesting. It gives room for actors to look deeper into real cases and get a deeper grasp in the areas of confidentiality, privilege, reporting and duty to warn. It also gives a more vivid picture of how the above mentioned things, though looking similar, are quite different in a myriad of ways. The very first case to be looked into was of a young boy who was taken to hospital by his foster parents. His conditions were not good at all for he had bruises on his spine and another bruise slightly below his eye. The nurse happened to questioned her about the same. She said it was as a result of being jostled in seat in the car. The nurse kind of didn’t make any note of this observation. Moreover, she happened to fail to call CPS to report the possible...
