Easton Towne Center For my field observation I decided to go to the Easton Towne Center that is located in Columbus, Ohio. The owners of Easton include a partnership between Limited Brands and The Georgetown Company. It was originally a real estate project of Les Wexner, who is an Ohio State University Alum, billionaire, and CEO of the Limited Brands Corporation. It is one the first shopping center of its kind. The mall itself is very large because the majority of it is outside, which gives it the look of an actual “town”. I saw half naked women on Abercrombie and Fitch bag and on extra-large posters hanging in the windows of stores. Before I knew it, I saw groups of young girls walking past me wearing the same crop tops I saw advertised in the stores nearby. Apparently sex appeal sells. I observed the occasional group of young men who appeared to just be wandering around, perhaps they were checking out all of the girls who were at the mall that day. There were also some older people looking at a map who seemed to be a little lost and unsure of which direction they should take. The founders of Easton want did not want visitors to view Easton as an average shopping trip; instead they wanted it to be an experience that could last an entire day, because logically the longer people are at a shopping mall the more money they will spend. At Easton there are enough attractions to attract every type of individual as long as they have money to spend, because the advertisements at all shopping malls are designed to make consumers want to spend their money. A typical trip to Easton might include: a lunch date, then a trip to the movies that is followed by browsing in a few of the retail stores, a manicure or pedicure in Modern Nails, quick caffeine fix in Starbucks, then onto to Bar Louie for some happy hour appetizers. A trip like that is very expensive, so no wonder many of the visitors to Easton look as though they have a lot of money to
