The genre films are usually easily recognizable as a certain genre. This is because they tend to use familiar story formulas charterers types and settings, for this film the genre is sci-fi. The sub genre would go into a more narrow definition this movie a post apocalyptic title would describe what to expect from this movie even before seeing it. Seeing this film gave me a sense of a deeper meaning to this film, take away the green screens and aliens you are left with the movie’s core. Which is overcoming your fears to save your love one and even yourself from danger? Watching after Earth for yourself will change your definition of what is fear and how to adapt, when you’re in danger. The plot of a movie and the story is different and also helpful to know the difference. The story is the sequence of events and the plot is the summary of the movie told to create a screenplay, then a script thereafter. The plot; after crash landing on a now unfamiliar...

...Film Viewer Opinion Paper Introduction to Film Studies With all the movies that are made not all will make it to the top. I can see where low budget movies what make the cut like most main stream movies do. But Low budget can be better than some main stream movies as long as it has a good story line. This paper I will discuss how I decide on movies I watch. Than give my opinion on what makes a movie enjoyable/unenjoyable to me when I’m watching them? When deciding on a movie to watch or go to it is a hard one if more than one good movie is on TV or playing in the theater. Movies all the times come out and making a decision to watch one takes some reading or watching of the trailer. But I will also decide if the movie will make me laugh, bored with it, or sit at the edge of my chair if I will watch it or not. The final things that will help me decide to watch the movie or not are the actors/actresses that are playing in the movie. To give my opinion on what makes a movie enjoyable what does the movie have to offer? For me an enjoyable movie has to offer many things laughter, a good story line, and action. I enjoy movies with great actor/actresses, but they must have a role that fits them. Adam Sandler, Jim Carry these are a couple of actors that I enjoy watching their movies they can make me laugh from the start of the movie. A movie with good music, if music fits the movie it makes it enjoyable since music draws people in. But even though movies can be enjoyable they...

...In deciding what film to watch depends on the previews or trailers they advertise. This if it catches the eye and looks like it will be entertaining throughout the movie. Going off the reviews of how many stars it has does not always mean it is the best movie to watch. For example how many emmys it has won. This definitely does not mean this movie is a great one to watch. Most of the time they are long and boring. It never really keeps the audience involved thourghout the entire movie. In keeping a audience enjoyable in the film that they are watching, it needs to have a flow to it. The story line to the film has to stay on point on what they are trying to tell someone. If you lose that, then the film ends up being long drawn out and the audience is no longer interested in the film. Keeping the audience on it’s toes will keep them asking fo more through the film. This will help keep the audience involved and easier for the them to follow what is being told to them. The suspense in a film is what keeps the audience asking what’s next and pushing their imagination to the limit. It is making your audience think while watching makes the audience feel they are apart of the film. What makes a film not enjoyable is taking forever to the next point in a film. When the audience is trying to understand the the film and can not make out what the film is truly about. The film maker does not want to drag out the film to the point that the audience has forgotten what the point...

...Film Critique: INSIDIOUS Intro to Film 225 Vera Baber Instructor: BradWaltman February 12, 2012 If you are looking for a good horror film to sit down and cuddle up with, and you aren’t bent on happy or predictable endings, Insidious is a gem that will not only scare and surprise you, but keep you thinking and without all the blood and gore that most horror films rely on these days. INSIDIOUS is a film about a family who moves into a new home and begins to experience some very strange phenomenon, such as items being moved from one place to another without any explanation. The setting is an old creepy house; with an attic full of items from the past, and which seems to draw people in; first the mother, then the son. The son Dalton ends up falling off of a ladder while playing in the attic. He seems to receive only a minor bump from the fall, but during the night while asleep in his bed, he mysteriously drifts off into a coma and is unresponsive when his parent try to wake him for school. He is then rushed to the hospital emergency room where his condition baffles doctors. They cannot understand why there is no brain damage which is usually accompanied with a coma, but they have no idea what else to call it. He is ultimately sent home to be cared for by his mother with the help of a part-time nurse. It is during this time that the paranormal activity really kicks off in the story. Most of the paranormal occurrences seem to take place during the day while the mother is home...

...Biographical Films Jenna Nelson December 12, 2014 JASS 248 Professor Erik Marshall Analysis Essay-The Five Heartbeats; The Film Genre of Biopics The Five Heartbeats (1991), directed by Robert Townsend, is a movie that I know all too well. This film effectively portrays the highs and the lows of the music industry and how it affects the members of a group. In this essay, I will analyze the cinematography, mis-en-scéne and the importance of music in films such as this one. I will also expound upon the genre of biographical films and how they contribute to society. Biographical films, or “biopics” represents the life history of an actual person or group. Unlike documentary film, biopics employ actors to play the roles of these individuals: they are dramatized, fictional films. Biopics are often marketed as being “inspired by” or “based on” the lives of famous people including entertainers, royalty, scientists and even criminals. Dennis Bingham conducted a study on biographical films and discusses and history of the biography. He also looks at the various forms of the biopic, including theatrical releases, made-for-television movies and short films. Bingham argues that biopics of women are structured so differently from male biopics as to constitute their own genre. The conventions of the female biopic have proven much more intractable than the male biopic. This is due to society’s difficulty with the very issue of women in the public sphere. The difficulty kept...

...Film Elements EAT PRAY LOVE AND SHANE After watching the first 5 minutes of Eat Pray Love and Shane I would be able to guess what Shane concern would be. I wouldn’t be able to guess about Eat Pray and Love only because it starts off one way and seems to venture into a different direction. In the movie Shane, its music suggests that the movie would have a combination of different emotional qualities. The beginning music starts off as happy and then it becomes serious and adventures. It then goes back to serious and happy. There is also a touch of sadness in one part of the movie. The movie Eat Pray Love the music starts of upbeat and happy and that continues for awhile. It then turns into being serious and somewhat happy at the same time. The characters that was introduced in the beginning of Eat Pray Love tells us that the theme of the movie is going to be based on them trying to figure out what they should do in life. It seems as though the main character Liz have issues with things that are going on in her life and starts to analyze her life on what the doctor told her at the beginning of the movie. The main characters husband and her publisher would be two characters that we will be viewed more in a distance. In the movie Shane there were four characters introduced in the beginning, Mr. & Mrs. Starks, their son Joey and Shane. There also were the Riders. I believe that Shane would be the main characters whose eyes we will view the movie through. The Starks are struggling...

...J M May 20, 2012 Film Application Paper “Freedom Writers” “Freedom Writers” is your typical story of one naive teacher sent to change the lives of what society views as under privileged kids with little or no hope for true success based on social stigmas, race, and assumptions. This movie addresses what we have many key factors addressed in this week’s lesson. It illustrates that not only businesses are faced with these types of issues, but any environment that follows a detailed system structure of organization. Through the movie, we are faced with the five stages of organizational development found on page 88 of out text. After being faced with the problem concerning the students pre-conceived notion of failure, the character played by Hillary Swank, now must anticipate the need for change. In this circumstance, she would be considered the practitioner, and the students the clients. This brings us to stage two. At this point she must develop a relationship in order to institute change. Our text outlines that the next stage is to start the diagnostic process, in this instance I consider stage two and three to be a two-part process. In order for the teacher (Mrs. G) to develop that relationship, she must diagnose how to do that. She does this by simply asking, or collecting data. Mrs. G is surprised to find out many smaller, more personal issues that are detrimental to the overall problem within her class. What is also surprising is that many of the issues...

...The Excitement in a well written book happens from word to word, sentence to sentence, paragraph to paragraph, chapter to chapter. But usually the turning from page to page is incidental, and in a long book a bother. It doesn't matter if something happens on page 9 or 289. While reading a book, I sometimes wish I didn’t have to hold it up, it gets so heavy, and I fantasize a sea of type automatically unrolling, one word in focus at a time, at just the right speed, on a moving screen or scroll. A scroll, or long paper with accordion pleats or separate sheets in a portfolio are all books of a sort. But a book, as we refer to it today, has distinct physical properties, just as painting, sculpture, film, and other art forms have their distinct physical properties A book is a series of pages held together at one edge, and these pages can be moved on their hinges like a swinging door. They could also be half-doors, doors with windows, double doors, like fold-outs, doors with attachments, pop-ups, textures or moving parts, and shaped doors. Of course if a door has something completely different behind it, it is much more exciting. The element of delight and surprise is helped by the physical power we feel in our own hands when we move that page or door to reveal a change in everything that has gone before, in time, place, or character. A thrilling picture book not only makes beautiful single images or sequential images, but also allows us to become aware of a book's...

...Coming into Carleton, I was terrified at the idea of having to write at a college level. I had only written one big paper in High School and I had no idea how to do research. It was a hard experience and I had to push myself to a point that allowed me to present data in the best way possible. Thankfully, friends and the Writing Center were there at every step of my development into a confident writer. Aside from that, some of the most rewarding projects at Carleton were surprisingly assigned papers. They allowed me to express myself in a way that I had not previously experienced. It allowed me to incorporate my love for linear mathematical thinking into a less restrictive medium. And most importantly, I was able to immortalize my grandmother’s...

Generally, I understand about whether or not using technologies depends on the purpose and usage. Still, after immersing in the ideas of those scholars, Juan Carlos Pineiro the filmmaker of Second Skin with the ideas given by the passages in They Say I Say, I found out that support to use technologies and against to spend that much time on gaming are my...

...And again, my previous English classes, I did not have a chance for my classmates to review my papers. The professor considers this process was unnecessary and expect me to go to the Writing Center if needed help. However I have encounter myself that the peer review give me an opportunities to develop how to give constructive feedback, and improve my papers dramatically. Besides that, when it come for me to read someone paper, I have seen different approaches of how he or she responding to a same assignment as we all did. I have read some very strong papers, and that can make me learn a great deal to bring up my confidence on writing. I would sit down to read over my peer comments and began to editing my paper. Once I was fascinating on how they use their strengths to outweigh their weakness. For example, once we did the film peer review, I was fascinating of one the paper that I read. The paper was quite short and did not have enough background information about the film. However, his grammar and sentence structures were very strong. His word choice was effective and easy to understand. He gave a specific summary about the people, places and things of the movie, which scene is the most impact and eventually forced myself to go the Red box and rent the...
