Changing Our Lives Why I Decided To Return To College Believing in Myself: Forging a Path to College

A young girl being the only child, from a small town in Illinois having to make life decisions for herself. Her parents were divorced and it was so much on her mother that she relocated to another state and left her daughter behind with family members. At this point she had been mentally, emotionally, and physically abused. She wonders if she will even make it through high school with all these distractions going on in her life at such a young age. That girl was me. Thankfully, I did make it through high school, but I put off college for 12 years dealing with life issues, marriage, and even becoming a parent! I have now chosen to go to college at this juncture in my life because of financial, personal, and emotional reasons. I decided to enroll at Strayer University for financial stability in a career not just a job. I think this is a valid and strong reason, and this keep me going every day. The thought of being my own boss, earning a degree, believing in my ability to learn, and being a positive role model for my children is so exciting. Therefore, I can become the person I want to be. Lastly, going back to college will give the knowledge and self confidence that I will need to build myself in my career! To start, I need and want financial stability for my family. I am not currently working so I am trying my best to achieve and strive in school. I feel in order to achieve my goals and be successful coming back to college is the best opportunity for me. I dream to become successful upon finishing school in my career path. I love the fact that one day I can be my own boss or even help others with employment. When I applied to Stayer and spoke with my financial advisor she gave me the best advice before I started my enrollment process. She said that I would do very well in the Strayer University atmosphere, and I feel great about that. Once I receive my degree, I can help others become successful and also become financially stable and just start to enjoy life with my children and husband. Another reason I came back to college is very personal. No one in my family has ever even attended let alone graduated from college. Therefore, I will be first generation to accomplish this, and that makes me so proud. “An education isn’t how much you have committed to memory; it’s about being able to differentiate between what you know and what you don’t” (McCain, 2007 pg.1). This is one of my deep underlying reasons to finish school. I want to prove to my family and my children that I can do it. Furthermore, maybe my kids will want to follow me down the same path just a little earlier in their age. According to Sanders (2011), Children learn from what they see and watching their parents so I hope that they can see all my hard work and want to do the same this might also influence other members of my family, and even friends who have had a lifelong dream of attending a university too but have not taken that first step yet. In essence, I want to establish my history in my own family. The last reason I chose to come back to school is an emotional one. Sadly, my teachers always told me that I was a terrible writer and an unfocused student. This made me feel bad about myself and I want to prove those instructors wrong and become more confident in my abilities. It turns out that I am dyslexic and it was not caught until late in my education. In short, it turns out I am not the best writer! I just see things differently. I learned this once I finally had to write papers. I plan to revise this essay and save it so that I can print it out on my graduation day!

Insight to an Unethical Situation

...Insight to an Unethical Situation Week 6- Final Project Danielle Introduction Toyota’s announcement of a technical fix for its sticky gas pedals, which can lead to sudden acceleration problems, is not likely to bring a quick end to the company’s current recall nightmare. During the course of this paper, I will explain in detail the Toyota recall in 2010 having to do with the gas petal sticking. I will also explain why I believe Toyota handled this situation from the deontological perspective and what other theories apply to the unethical situation. Description Unethical Situation In 2010, Toyota was forced to issue a series of highly-publicized recalls, due to reports of cars accelerating beyond the driver's control.  The issue led to Congressional hearings, damaged the reputation of a company once known for its bulletproof reliability, and left millions of Toyota owners with questions about their own safety. Understandably, the news was worried for Toyota consumers.  It also rocked the automotive industry, as questions about Toyota's reputation for reliability surfaced during this time. It started with a single, horrifying car crash in southern California in August 2009. In the weeks following, two separate recalls covering 7.5 million vehicles, Toyota was forced to announce it was suspending the sale of eight of its best-selling vehicles, a move that cost the company and its dealers a minimum of $54 million a day in lost sales revenue. How did a company that became...

Communications and Personality in Negotiation

...customer wanting to purchase a vehicle. The representation will provide a female consumer’s perspective in such negotiation proceedings. In addition, included will be an analysis of the roles of communication and personality in this type of negotiation as well as how each detracted from the negotiation process. A few years back, I was in an automobile accident in which a big-rig truck destroyed the side of my car. As a result, I was in the position of needing a new vehicle. I had good credit plus sufficient funds received for the subsequent accident. I researched the type of vehicle I wanted to purchase and concluded on the amount that I was willing to pay. I decided to procure a new or slightly used Lexus ES 300. All that was left to do was to search out the perfect ES 300 that fulfilled my established criteria, which included a reasonable price, low mileage, substantial warranty and standard features with extras like rims and a sunroof. I prepared in advance my negotiation techniques exercising appropriate communication skills to assist in completing the deal. The strategies included straightforwardness coupled with standing firm on my criteria. My first stop was at a dealership that sold both new and used vehicles. When diving by, I noticed that this particular lot housed many Lexus vehicles although it was not an authorized Lexus dealership. As I drove up into the parking area, I could view the vulture-like salespeople waiting to pounce on me as if I were their...

...I used to play soccer for a club, just for recreational purposes,in fact i was one of the cofounders of the team. The team we assembled was a mixture of young and old, and for this reason we were the laughing stock of the league, because all other teams were made up solely of young players, who were exceptionally talented. The team ended up on the wrong side of the score for the first few games we played, and got nicknamed the “whopping boys”. Eventually we grew tired of the nickname and of our performances on the field, and we decided to try and improve things, first thing we did was to elect a leader for the club. Even though i didnʼt want the job, i was voted into the position, and as the president it was my duty to represent my team when the league called for club meetings. At the time we were all students, so it was decided that we would all contribute towards any and all expenses, but unfortunately when you dealing with a blend of young and old, things donʼt always go according to plan, people constantly made up excuses for not showing up for practice, or for not contributing towards our equipment. Even though it wasnʼt my duty, i took it upon myself to ensure that every single player showed up for practice, i used to drive up to the houses of all those who didnʼt have any transportation. It was a tiring job, but i realized that if i wanted the team to be successful, i had to make certain sacrifices, some of which included taking money out of my own pocket...

The end product is patient satisfaction, provide a solution for the patient and to support that in practise. Leanne has come on in leaps and bounds since her early days in the department. She is confident, but finds it difficult to ask questions. However, she does manage talk about things in the appointment through her reflective reporting. This is something I may need to talk with her about when I have the final meeting with her. But I am not overly concerned at this moment in time. The 3 reflective reports that Leanne produces is of good quality, informative and reasonably accurate. It also highlights aspects of training she mentions that we both have undertaken together in the appointment, so I suppose she is reporting her own training and that of mine in her words, that I can use as evidence that can be signed off. Two Students Accounting Case

...the students are Bill and John. Bill believes that the completed -contract method is most like recognizing revenue at point of delivery because in the end the final product is delivered and has fulfilled any requirements to recognize revenue. John believes that percentage-of-completion is most like point of delivery and this allows a company to recognize revenue over time. I support Bill’s opinion that the completed-contract method is closest to recognizing revenue at point of delivery. The reason I support this is because while there is still construction taking place, as in the percentage-of-completion method, there still is no actual product being delivered. Along with no product being delivered, it is possible that the final product may never actually be made. If there’s a chance the end product not being made then there is no way to recognize revenue for that product. Using the completed contract method we hold off on recognizing any revenue until the final product is finished and delivered to the client. In my opinion completed contract fulfills the requirements of revenue recognition which are (1) the amount has to be realized / realizable and (2) the revenue must be earned. In completed contract at point of delivery the item can be considered earned now that it is completed and ownership has passed to the final customer. Percentage-of-completion does help serve large contracts that take years to complete so that a company can recognize some revenue every year. The problem...

Cougars on the Bay

...Utter chaos or sheer comical genius? The Eric Andre Show transcends what most people typically think of in terms of a variety show. This man has taken his talents as a comedian and created something that is truly unforgettable. The show on Wednesday, September 19 started with Eric Andre running out on stage throwing beer, sandwiches, what seemed to be chicken carcasses, and many other objects out into the crowd as he jumped off stage and began to run through the dense mass of people pushing, shoving, and simply making a riot amongst the observers. He disappeared and shortly after appeared back on stage fully naked running around the set. Things slowly settled down and it was time for his first guest, Russell Brandt. The crowd grew eager and when he finally came on stage, it was clear that it was in fact not he. Either that, or Russell Brandt changed his image to that of a malnourished Philadelphian homeless person. Once on stage “Brandt” sang a song, in what seemed to be English accompanied by a plastic guitar and a 2 liter bottle filled with some unknown foamy liquid that eventually also ended up in the crowd. His next two guests consisted of a local juggler and Freeway, who is a native rapper of North Philadelphia. It was clear that neither of the two were aware of what they were actually participating in. Right as the juggler was about to begin his performance, the lights dimmed and Doc Chicken emerged. This was nothing more than a rubber chicken with a stethoscope...

Conflict Scenorio

...One of the strategies we discussed to resolve the conflict was (1) Meet with the three employees to discuss their ideas, (2) Meet with Jan and Marc to understand why they are unable to come to an agreement or compromise, (3) As the manager direct each employee to develop and present their ideas about the ad to a management team. The first strategy we discussed was to have a meeting with Jan, Sally, and Marc to find out why and how we could help them come to a decision about the ad. Allow each employee to present what ideas they have for the ad. As the manager listen to the idea, explain to them your views on what makes a successful ad, and make any suggestions for improvement on the ideas, if needed. Feedback is welcome, but we have a deadline to meet. Ask each one of them what they can produce to help promote this ad. Also remind them that they have been successful in the past and we are sure you can work together to solve this conflict. It’s about compromising. The second strategy is meeting with Jan and Marc, since they were unable to compromise. Even though they worked very well together in the past and Sally tried to get them to come to an agreement they could not set their personal values aside. The manager needs to be the negotiator to guide employees to see others views. Compromise is the key to good negotiation. You need to be able to give in a little to get closer to what you want. Have Marc and Jan present their ideas for the ad, give feedback on...
