Upon reading that an Integrative Paper was required to complete the course, I wondered how best to accomplish this task. According to MGNT 5590’s catalogue description, the intent of the course is to introduce students to the basic principles of human behavior effective managers’ use when managing individuals and groups. This include theories related to individual differences in abilities and attitudes, attribution, motivation, group dynamics, power and politics, leadership, conflict resolution, organizational culture, and organizational structure and design. Project Uplift is a volunteer/mentor program, which helps children around Lee County develop constructive, happy lives. I joined this organization in hopes of helping to make a child’s life better by spending a few hours per week with them. My friend, Sammy, and I began Project Uplift together by choosing a child based on information given to us by the organization. I have gotten the opportunity to spend many hours with Rell throughout our time together. I hope he gets as much out of our meetings as I do. My goal with Rell is to have an impact on him in a positive way so that he makes good decisions in life based on what he has learned through the years with Sammy and I. My experience with Project Uplift thus far has been magnificent and I believe it has made me a better person along the way. Seeing Rell grow up throughout the time spent with him is probably my favorite part of the whole experience. Rell was in fifth grade when we first met him two and a half years ago. It was difficult to even get a word out of him in the first couple of months we met, but now he is bouncing off of the walls when we pick him up.
