...for an alternative design? What would be your second choice?. Answer: If I am on the Dynacorp task force, my first choice for an alternative design would be front /back structure of strategic design. This structure divides the organization into two parts such that the back end products which include engineering, manufacturing and the logistics and the front end is faced by the marketing and sales division. As Dynacorp is spread across the US and as well as the world, this front/back structure will also support the various divisions spread across the globe. Each country where Dynacorp wants to expand itself can have its marketing and sales division and the manufacturing division can be located in a country where the production costs would be as lower as possible. This would be an advantage by lowering the production costs and increasing the profit of Dynacorp. The marketing division, which becomes the back end of the structure, can address the various issues faced by the Dynacorp, with one major issue of handling the change from dealing with the direct customers to the consulting firms with special practices in ITC. This can be coordinated with the engineering and the production divisions, which in turn spread across the globe. With the advancement in the information exchange systems, the communication between the divisions can be increased and the adaption to the change can be made easier. Dynacorp can introduce a division which deals with the projects and programs...

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering college in Vallabh Vidyanagar in Gujarat.[3] After graduation, he went to Bombay with a note from his father introducing him to Viren J. Shah working in Mukand Iron & Steel Works Limited to apply for its engineering programme. Due to his lack of proficiency in English, the personnel manager had asked him to improve his English. So Mr. Naik started working on his English skills. In the meantime, he joined Nestler Boilers, which was a Parsi-owned firm.[4] His career growth in Nestor Boilers was arrested by changes in ownership and management style and hence, once again, he was job hunting in 1965. ...Admissions Procedures Requirements At MIT, a regular graduate student is one who is registered for a program of advanced study and research leading to a post-baccalaureate degree. A regular graduate student may concurrently hold an appointment as a research assistant, teaching assistant, or instructor. To be admitted as a regular graduate student, an applicant must have earned a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a college, university, or technical school of acceptable standing. Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the condition that their bachelor’s degrees are awarded before they enroll at MIT. Applicants are evaluated by the individual department in which they intend to register on the basis of their prior performance and professional promise, as evidenced by their academic records, letters of evaluation from individuals familiar with their capabilities, and any other pertinent data they submit. While high academic achievement does not guarantee admission, MIT expects such achievement or other persuasive evidence of professional promise. Specific admission requirements vary by department; please consult the catalogue and department or program website for the requirements of individual departments. In general, most departments require significant work in mathematics and the physical sciences in addition to preparation in a specific field of interest, but some admit students with as little as one year each of college-level mathematics...

ABERLE Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore MD, 21202, USA. E-mail: kaberle@abet.org Faster computer chips, corporate mergers, new Internet applications: every day, we are reminded of the sweeping technological change and globalization that appear to be dominant trends of the new millennium. Rapid and multifaceted, these changes can be daunting to engineering educators. Unable to predict so volatile a future, we nonetheless have to make decisions today about what to teach future engineers and how to prepare them for an increasingly international workplace without compromising the hard-won quality of our programs. Fortunately, we have an organization dedicated to ensuring the quality and relevancy of engineering education in the US ± and, increasingly, to helping engineering education programs in other countries strive for goals similar to our own. The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, or ABET, is a federation of 28 professional engineering and technical societies that accredits some 1,500 engineering programs, 700 engineering technology programs and 50 programs in engineering-related areas. To receive ABET accreditation, engineering programs must go through a rigorous examination that includes self-study and peer review by a visiting team of engineering academicians and professional...

...11-26 http://urn.nb.no/URN:NBN:no-30971 Pål Nygaard Professional Autonomy versus Corporate Control Abstract: Professionalism and bureaucracy tend to be understood as incompatible systems of work organization, represented by the ideals of collegiality and autonomy versus control and supervision. I present a historical case study from early 20th century Norway examining the potential clash between efforts made toward professionalization and bureaucratization in industry. Based on my findings, I argue that there is neither an inherent conflict between professionalism and bureaucracy nor static national trajectories at the level of professional versus bureaucratic work organization. Keywords: professionalism; bureaucracy; engineers; engineering; history; transnational Pål Nygaard Centre for the Study of Professions, Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Scineces Contact: Department of Innovation and Economic Organisation, Handelshøyskolen BI, 0442 Oslo, Norway Pal.Nygaard@ bi.no Page 11 For a long time, theories on professions brought forth the contention of an inherent conflict between professionalism and bureaucracy, contributing to a division between the sociology of professions and organizations. During the past decade, various scholars have contested both the argument of conflict and the fruitfulness of division (Bourgeault, Hirschkorn, & Sainsaulieu, 2011; Muzio & Kirkpatrick, 2011; Evetts, 2010). Recent trends toward organizing the work of professions in...
