The theme of Levithan’s Every day seems to be finding happiness although, A struggles with this because he switches bodies every day. This makes it hard for A because he cannot keep stable relationships. For example, Rhiannon, he knows he cannot be with her forever and he becomes sad about it. He knows his only way for happiness is to have a life of his own. Even thinking about this makes A sad because he won’t be remembered when he’s gone if he disappears. The only happiness he finds is only temporary. He is happy when he is people who are similar to him. First, A meets Rhiannon who he knows that he can't be with. He realizes this when he is in the body of Vic who is quite similar to him. While sifting through Vic’s memories he “feel[s] such gratitude and such longing--not Vic’s, but my own. This is what I want from Rhiannon. This is what I want to give to Rhiannon” (page 256). This was where one would realize that it’s not that Rhiannon wants to be with him. It’s the difficulty of being together. A does not know this until Rhiannon gives him time to think. “I should go,” she says “Not forever. But for now. Let’s talk again in a few days. If you really think about it, you’ll come to the same conclusion” (page 280).…show more content… Vic is someone who is a female and wants to identify as a male. “Even before I open my eyes, I like Vic. Biologically female, gendered male. Living within the definition of his own truth, just like me” (page 253). Although this may be true, this is not permanent but rather a reminder that there are people with similar personalities as him because he doesn’t have a permanent life. If only A chose to listen to Reverend Poole. Then he would have been able to live the happy life he wants.
