Only way Shrek was to regain privacy is if he went on the quest to rescue Princess Fiona for Lord Farquaad which does not comply with section 7 of his rights and freedoms. His life is being threatened while attempting to rescues the princess[4]. Mobility rights is section 6 in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Shrek the Musical

...California. The production was directed by David Carter. Scarlett Brais was the choreographer. Cristina Quijada was the scenic designer. Renee Astengo, Sharon Carter and Nanette Cheffers were the costume designers. Nick and Sarah Van Houten were the lighting designers. Jim Longman was the audio designer. The major characters of the play: Shrek (Konner Kienzle), Lord Farquaad (Tristin Brown), Donkey (Brian Bautista), Fiona (Megan Hernandez), Big Bad Wolf (Dillon Lares), and Pinocchio (Ronan Walsh). The story begins with Shrek and Fiona, as children, and how they got where they are today with their parents abandoning them. Shrek begins to tell his story of living peacefully in a swamp. His peace is interrupted, when he finds his land has been taken over by fairytale creatures. Pinocchio, the Three Little Pigs, and the Big Bad Wolf among others, for they have all been banished by Lord Farquaad. One of these is Donkey, who is quite talkative. Accompanied by him, Shrek confronts Lord Farquaad, demanding his land back. Farquaad gives him a deal, telling him to rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon-guarded castle, to get his swamp back. I believe the fundamental conflict was Shrek having to get the Princess in order to get his land back. Not only did he get his land but the girl and friends as well! The music tells the journey and feelings. This is what makes the story come alive to the audience. The mood of the audience was one of laughter and true enjoyment. The fact that this was a high...

Is Shrek a Traditional Fairytale Prince?

...In traditional fairytales, ogres are man eating beasts. The prince usually rescues the princess and they live happily ever after. 18.10.10 The main themes in a traditional fairytale are always either based on Romance/Magic & Evil. The main elements always are the antagonist (the bad guy), the protagonist (The good guy) and mainly sometimes the helper. In traditional fairytales the antagonist, the protagonist and the helper are often stereotypical, take Cinderella for example the princess is warm hearted, beautiful, nice and kind. The prince is always often handsome, charming, brave and wealthy The film ‘Shrek’ begins in a traditional way by using the most common phrase ‘Once upon a time’ that gives you an idea that the film has used some traditional phrases. Well you can tell by the opening scene that ‘Shrek’ is different to a traditional fairytale on how it shows Shrek doing his own thing. Shrek is very not like a stereotypical prince. Shrek is an Ogre which straight away puts a picture in your mind of like a dirty, scary and ugly and also could be the enemy. The music when we first meet Shrek is a contrapuntal sound. It doesn’t really match the things he was doing. For example, when Shrek is in a mud bath. The music gave you a happy/exciting feeling and quite a good/bad impression; it also sets the mood throughout the scene. Shrek threatens the villagers in the film. On this scene you see Shrek as a dangerous monster, which looks ugly and also very angry;...

My Papa's Waltz

...Theodore Roethke is the author of the poem titled "My Papa's Waltz." Roethke is the speaker in the poem and is talking to his father. As he goes through the poem, he talks about the abuse, his mother's reaction, how he could not let go because the man was his father, and how he seems to have mixed feelings about his relationship with him. The author used interesting word choices to make the poem have multiple meanings depending on how someone would interpret it. The first-person speaker and his father have a complex relationship surrounded by an abusive relationship and a mixture of love and fear, yet the speaker does not resent his father. Throughout the poem the father abuses the son, the speaker. Lines 5 and 6 could be interpreted to say the father is being excessively violent towards the son which causes pans to fall off shelves. Lines 9 and 10 also seem to allude to the fact the father hits his son by mentioning the "battered knuckle." A child would be scared to be hit especially if it is their own father and the child is young as he says in the poem. Line 13 says "you beat time on my head." This line could be seen as anytime the speaker was late he would get hit in the head by his father. While the son faces the abuse of his father, he does not appear to resent him completely. In line 3 the speaker argues "but I hung on like death." Line 16 also demonstrates that the boy in the poem is still holding onto his father even after all of the horrible situations he...

Stereotypes In Shrek

...The movie Shrek’s main character is the independent and isolated huge green ogre that bears the name Shrek. He lives a quiet life in his own swamp where other than occasional riots from humans to attack him, he is left unbothered by any creature or human. Until, Lord Farquaad captured fairy-tale creatures and evicted them to live in Shrek’s swamp. Shrek, unlike anyone else before him is not afraid to fight against the pivotal power of Lord Farquaad and takes it upon himself to regain his swamp land back. In the scene, Shrek is set up to battle each of Farquaad’s bravest knights, he takes them all down and then demands to have his word with Lord Farquaad. Through the use of Cohen and Omi’s argumentative essays, a complex relationship takes form as Shrek is labeled as a minority figure that is uprising against common held beliefs the humans hold against himself and other fairy-tale creatures. His character traits and embodiment as a monster as well as a minority develop a multifaceted relationship where he battles prejudices and societal beliefs from the humans against his race that are difficult to fight against. In a major plot development scene of the film, Shrek enters Dulac’s Colosseum as an outsider that is looked down upon among the towns people. His character is an imperative film element of the scene. Shrek’s persona is that of a fearless individual that is on a quest to regain control of his property. He is an ogre and for that reason alone he is perceived by the citizens...

Novel

...JOHN WYNDHAM THE CHRYSALIDS 1 When I was quite small I would sometimes dream of a city — which was strange because it began before I even knew what a city was. But this city, clustered on the curve of a big blue bay, would come into my mind. I could see the streets, and the buildings that lined them, the waterfront, even boats in the harbour; yet, waking, I had never seen the sea, or a boat. ... And the buildings were quite unlike any I knew. The traffic in the streets was strange, carts running with no horses to pull them; and sometimes there were things in the sky, shiny fish-shaped things that certainly were not birds. Most often I would see this wonderful place by daylight, but occasionally it was by night when the lights lay like strings of glow-worms along the shore, and a few of them seemed to be sparks drifting on the water, or in the air. It was a beautiful, fascinating place, and once, when I was still young enough to know no better, I asked my eldest sister, Mary, where this lovely city could be. She shook her head, and told me that there was no such place — not now. But, perhaps, she suggested, I could somehow be dreaming about times long ago. Dreams were funny things, and there was no accounting for them; so it might be that what I was seeing was a bit of the world as it had been once upon a time — the wonderful world that the Old People had lived in; as it had been before God sent Tribulation. But after that she went on to warn me very seriously not to mention it...

Class Newsletter

...Mrs. Cobb’s Class Newsletter September 2013 [pic] As part of the Responsive Classroom approach to classroom management, teachers at Mt. Pleasant employ a technique we call ‘Take a Break.’ When teachers ask students to ‘Take a Break’, students are not in trouble. The action is meant to be non-punitive It’s true purpose is to redirect a student who is making a mistake, about to make a mistake, or who is heading down the wrong path. We are guiding students to stop and think about what is going on and helping students make better choices or calm down while taking a break. Often, students are sent to the “Think Chair” simply to gather themselves. The goal is to get a student ready to learn and to keep instruction as seamless as possible. Eventually, we would like to get students to notice when they, themselves, need to take a break. Please be patient with teachers and your child as we put this strategy in place in our classrooms. Do not be alarmed if your child tells you they had to ‘take a break’ or even several breaks these first weeks of school. It’s a natural part of the back-to-school learning curve. It might feel odd at first, but will eventually be a normal part of our classroom. We have used it for many years with much success and I expect this year to follow suit. Since this is so common in our room, I will not be notifying parents of every break taken, but will contact parents if a trend develops or if taking a break is not working. 3rd...

Blackberries

...Erika Moreno Eng102-Sat 10/06/2011 Assignment#1 Alone with Blackberries In Norris’ “Blackberries," the child comes to realize at a young age that we are all different people. Evidently this is true, we are all unique, each of us with a different personality, different standards we live up to, different feelings and thoughts. We will all come across people who are different from ourselves. The child in this story cannot change the fact that his mother is self-centered. What happens when the people we love are different from us? Throughout the story, Norris reveals the mother as a self-centered individual. In one specific incident, while the child is getting a haircut, the mother states, “I, my husband and I, we thought it was time for him to look like a little boy” (71). Notice how she corrects herself from “I" to “my husband and I.” She catches herself for a split second being selfish, for the child is not only her child. Meanwhile the child is caught in the middle of a troublesome marriage his parents continue to proceed. Throughout the events that take place we can also conclude that money plays a big factor for the mother. “Oh, I hope so. It’s expensive enough,” she states when referring to the cap she purchases for her son (71). At times children can be carless, and carless enough her child ruins the cap by using it as a holder for the blackberries that the father and son bring home for her. “If we had money, it would be different,” she tells the father (73). The...

Shrek Play Analysis

...Main Street Theatre’s production of Shrek: The Musical was executed beautifully in all aspects. This family friendly musical surpassed all my expectations, and left me speechless. Throughout the play we can distinctively see all the hard work and dedication that went into the production, and the result of this hilarious musical was spectacular. Shrek was produced to be a modern comic musical, which in fact had the entire audience laughing and completely entertained. The stage was set to show different locations throughout the play. The scenes would be arranged to be a swamp, and then be changed to a camp site in very little time, so they had to include many props to portray the play in better detail. The set consisted of various large towers, bridges, and houses. They were very resourceful with their props, making the most they could with each object they included. Having multiple use for several props made the transitions from one scene to the other hardly noticeable because all they had to do was open a tower, and then they had a castle or turn a house around and then they had a church. What I like most about this musical is that they tried to incorporate as much detail from the movie and book that they ended up making everything very similar, yet we could see how they brought their own twists to the play. The characters demonstrated how talented they were, and they did not disappoint. They stayed calm and consistent while executing a brilliant performance at the same time...

Fiona Hall: The Seven Deadly Sins

...As a gallery curator for the Queensland Art Gallery, I have been asked to present three artworks representing The Seven Deadly Sins. These three artworks I have chosen are all of which depict the sin, Pride. The artworks “Pride, Seven Deadly Sins”, 1985 by Fiona Hall, “Pride”, 1945 by Paul Cadmus and “The Seven Deadly Sins”, 1993 by Otto Dix are all fantastic examples of artworks displaying a particular sin or all seven deadly sins. The sin in particular that I have focused on is Pride; Pride is a belief in one's abilities, selfishness and putting one's beliefs first before anything else. The first artwork representing the seven deadly sins is by Fiona Hall, in this artwork Fiona Hall has explored the sin Pride. Fiona Margaret Hall was born in 1953 in...
