Introduction
There are many ways to classify marine organisms. Though there is many ways, there are seven main ways; Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species. The Firefly Squid, or Watasenia Scintillans is classified as such; Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Mollusca, Class: Cephalopoda, Order: Teuthida, Family: Enoploteuthidae, Genus: Watasenia, Species: Scintillans (https://en.wikipedia.org). The kingdom Animalia refers to the organism being an animal; multicellular, motile (meaning it is able to move on its own and impulsively at some point in its life), and being eukaryotic (https://en.wikipedia.org). The squid is about 3 inches with a streamline body and head, eyes, two tentacles around the head, and eight arms (see diagram 3)(http://www.japantimes.co.jp) (http://www.seasky.org). On the tentacles are small suckers which grip almost the same as hands. The squid also moves by a jet in the body which propels it forward. This jet like movement allows the squid to be a good swimmer. The Firefly squid has a camera like eye made up of an almost circular lens, a rectangle shaped pupil, an iris, vitreous cavity, and finally rhabdomeric photoreceptors which create a retina (see diagram 4)( http://archives.evergreen.edu). The testes, penis, and seminal vesical; are all used in the process of reproducing. The stomach is found somewhere in the mid-point of the visceral the bolus moves from there and goes into the cecum and digestion starts to break down its food (https://prezi.com). The kidney and rectum are used to filter waste products and excrete them from the squids body. The siphon and siphon retractor muscle are used in the propelling and moving of the squid. The branchial heart and the systemic heart work together to get oxygen rich blood into the squid. The branchial heart, which is also known as the gill heart, draws blood from the body to the gills for it to be oxygenated. The special thing about the Firefly Squid is its adaptation with bioluminescence. The squid has photophores at the tips of its tentacles which can be used for attacking small fish once they are lured in.
