In Fires of Jubilee, the story of Nat Turner is told. He is born into slavery in Southampton County of Virginia. His mother Nancy originated from the North’s Nile River country and had met his father (name unknown) when she arrived at the Turner plantation. For one, a big point Hammond uses to defend slavery is the claim that God favored this when Nat Turner was convinced that God was telling him to lead the revolt against the white men in order to gain freedom.
