Native communities had given thanks every day for the gifts of nature for centuries
Before Europeans arrived on the continent. In May 1541, 1,500 men led in a thanksgiving celebration by Spanish explorer Francisco Vasquez de Coronado in the Texas Panhandle. English colonists joined Abnaki people along Maine’s Kennebec River for a harvest feast and prayer meeting in August 1607. There were many celebrations that occurred centuries ago in different regions of North America. We analyze the text content of daily Twitter feeds by two mood tracking tools, namely OpinionFinder that measures positive vs. negative mood and Google-Profile of Mood States (GPOMS) that measures mood in terms of 6 dimensions (Calm, Alert, Sure, Vital, Kind, and Happy).
