I then decompose the data for each individual to determine whether there was consistency between 1st level and 2nd level responses. I matched each 1st level response with the appropriate 2nd level response. I called the levels consistent if both 1st and 2nd level responses placed responsibility on society or both placed responsibility on the individual. In any other case, I called the levels inconsistent. Surprisingly, I discovered that 36.5% of responses were inconsistent. This suggests that the stable aggregate levels are a result of a constant change between individual and social responsibility. Does the 1st level responses or the 2nd level responses have a stronger predictive power on one’s views on various issues? In order to test this hypothesis, I have developed six models. Three models, which I call 1st level models, take into account the responses given when asked "In your opinion, what is the most important cause of poverty?” The first model, Model 1, takes into account the respondent’s first response. The second model, Model 2, takes into account the aggregate of the first and second responses. The third model, Model 3, takes into account the aggregate of the first, second and third responses. The other three models, which I call 2nd level models, take into account the responses given to the question “Who or what is responsible for the cause mentioned above?”.
