I found the Career Interest Profiler, Competencies, and Work Culture Preferences activities all very interesting and insightful. All three taught me a little bit about myself and also what I should be looking for in a future employer to find both success and happiness at work. For example the Interest exercise let me know that I am Enterprising, and that means that I look to be involved in starting up and carrying out projects. I enjoy leading people and making decisions. This is interesting because that is what I have done most of my life. I have been a Store manager in retail for over 8 years, and have had to manage many different project and employees. The work culture showed me that I want a place where I have control of my schedule and am able to express my opinions. Possible employers that would fit my competencies would be a company looking for someone who adapts to change well, and is goal focused. This would be a company such as IBM, and many other tech related companies. There is constant change going on in this field and you will need to be able to adapt or get left behind. Any company looking for someone who is goal driven, willing to adapt and is ok with taking initiative would be a great fit. Types of jobs that would align with my work culture preferences would be somewhere that an employee is very engaged in what is going on, and can express his or her opinions openly. It needs to be very supportive and have a secure stable environment. Another key ingredient would be a place that has lots of personal development and feedback. Again any major technology company such as Microsoft, IBM, and others would be a great fit. They are a very stable company that are on the cutting edge of technology and are always looking for the next big thing.

Character Ethic (good) There are basic principles of effective living and people can only experience true success and enduring happines as they learn and integrate these principles into their basic character. Personality Ethic (not so good) It is manipulative, deceptive, encouraging people to use techniques to get other people to like them. Personality ethic is illusory and deceptive and trying to get high quality results with its techniques and quick fixes – not effective at all. I really gained a lot from Covey’s different examples he provided in each chapter via family, business and society in general. Covey explains how a person must make a paradigm shift prior to incorporating these habits into their life. We have to be committed to ourselves before we can commit to others. I really find this “inside-out” approach inspiring as change starts with oneself.
