...currency bitcoin to increase the speed, and slash the price, of international money transfers, raising the prospect of a revolution in the $600bn annual global remittance market. Soaring rates of mobile phone use in developing countries are helping the entrepreneurs compete with more usual forms of money transfer in countries where remittance rates and fees are highest. Many of the world’s poorest people depend on money sent to them from friends and family abroad. According to World Bank figures for 2011, nearly half of Tajikistan’s GDP is derived from remittances, while in Liberia, Lesotho, Nepal and Haiti they account for more than a fifth of GDP. Entrepreneurs claim they are using bitcoin to give some of the world’s poorest people a better deal on the money they receive from abroad. The World Bank calculates the average fee on remittances at 8%, yet charges can be three times as high. A report from the Overseas Development Institute (published in April 2014 , said the benefits of remittance transfers “are lost in intermediation as a result of high charges. Africa’s diaspora pays 12% to send $200 – almost double the global average.” Bitcoin could also cut the time it takes to send remittances. BitPesa, a Kenyan mobile money transfer firm that launched in May, says its remittance transactions are “twice as fast and 75% cheaper” than competitors, because it uses bitcoin to transfer funds. Elizabeth Rossiello, BitPesa’s founder and CEO, said: “We’re looking to bring...

This is a good idea, and a typical retrenchment strategy, but I believe there to be better alternatives. Executive Summary According to multiple media sources, Best Buy is considering reducing their current store sizes by 10%, and changing their operational infrastructure. This is a good idea, and a typical retrenchment strategy, but I believe there to be better alternatives. Implementing Subway restaurants inside of Best Buy‟s instead of reducing the size of Best Buy stores by 10% may have the same financial underlining but not the same market impact. Subway is a restaurant chain that has (1) Brand Recognition (2) Good Public Image “healthy”, “fresh”, “Inexpensive” (3) Strong Independent Advertising Campaigns (4) Profitability within a Growing Industry. Subway restaurants promote and advertise timely events such as movies, athletic events, months, holidays, etc. to go along with Subway‟s existing promotional deals such as the “$5 Footlong” sandwich deals. Subway creates daily incentives for customers and provides a multitude of product offerings that allow Subway not to get stagnant or predictable to consumers. “Take your pick; eat a sandwich on a budget and lay out $5 for a 12‟inch submarine, or eat a fresh, healthy one to train like Michael Phelps, lose tons of weight like Jared Fogle (Subway spokesman)...

...demand pick up, creating a virtual cycle, the scale of efforts and mixed results over the past two years suggest that any counting on growth must also prudentially count on associated risks. The risk of a fiscal stimulus that does not deliver on growth is an added government debt burden. While there is perhaps no immediate fiscal crisis and the woes of European countries only strengthen the role of the dollar as international reserve currency, there are three issue to worry about: 1. An American debt crisis is unlikely to be a smooth outcome; it will more likely be a trigger strategy at which its risks start looking worse than another group of countries and investors switch to a more diversified base of international currencies for their reserve holdings. This will likely erode the liquidity premiums built into different ends of the Treasury curve and raise the borrowing costs steeply and abruptly. 2. When an American debt crisis looms large, any current government would hate to be the one that takes tough measures to rein them in as the end game approaches. They would all want to borrow, even at exorbitant costs, to roll on the debt and pass on the cost to the next cycle of politicians. This political economy consideration implies that there is a prudential need to manage fiscal issues ahead of time, rather than by reacting at the end. It is quite possible that some of what we are seeing now is in fact an outcome of such political economy considerations—borrow now to "count on"...

According to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Richards with other CA executives extended CA’s fiscal quarter, “ instructed and allowed subordinates to negotiate and obtain contracts after quarter end while knowing, or recklessly disregarding the fact that, CA would improperly recognize the revenue from those contracts, and failed to alert CA’s Finance or Sales Accounting Department that CA salespersons that reported to Richards were obtaining contracts with backdated signatures dates after quarter end.” (Release) Richard in his letter writes that his self and the CEO exerted significant pressures on their team to meet the goals that they had set for themselves, also Richard mentions that performance was measured by internal goals in accordance with the expectation set by outside parties, analyst community, specifically to meet Wall Street quarterly per-share earnings estimates, “a key to keeping a company’s stock price rising.” (Wharton) Richards with the CEO allegedly met routinely and conferred with each other and with Zar (CFO) during the week following the end of fiscal periods, including during the “flash period”, the three business days after the end of fiscal quarter, to determine whether CA had generated sufficient revenue to meet the quarterly projections, and closed CA’s books only after they determined that CA had generated enough revenue to meet the quarterly...

...According to (Krugman and Wells 2009) a brief explanation of fiscal policy is when the government uses taxes, government transfers and government purchases of goods and services to shift aggregate demand curve to the right to help heal the economy. (Reem Heakal 2010) describes it in simpler terms as the means by which the government adjusts its levels of spending in order to monitor and influence a nation’s economy. It is the sister strategy to monetary policy with which a central bank influences a nation’s money supply. Reem Heakal 2010 explains that Keynesian economics in theory can influence the macro economy by influencing productivity levels by increasing or decreasing taxes and public spending. This fiscal policy is set in place to get the economy back on track by increasing consumer spending and lowering unemployment. There are tools in the fiscal policy. Ex.: Is an investment tax credit which is a tax break to consumers. (Finishing the Job 2010) talks about the economic crisis was aided with swift stimulus packages to 130 million Americans and continued to find creative ways to unfreeze the credit markets. To summarize fiscal policy is too used to: Stimulate the economy, return to full employment, stabilize prices and combat inflation. Expansionary and contractionary means what it sounds like. We want to expand the economy and aggregate demand (A shift to the right in the demand curve) with government spending thus balancing it with contractionary policy ( A shift...
