Have you ever thought about purchasing a FitBit? I recently purchased the FitBit Charge. I can’t live without having a FitBit! It has cool additional features that are more than you have to bargain for. The FitBit is a mobile device that can be put on your wrist or clipped on your hip (depending on model). Depending on the model, it can track steps, distance, calories burned, sleep, be a GPS, receive call and text notifications of a synced mobile device, control songs on your mobile playlist and more! There’s an app where you can access day to day data, workout summaries, make friends and challenge them, and check your sleep patterns. When it is charged, it will last five to ten plus days (except for Zip model which has 6 month watch battery). If you don’t have a FitBit, you need to buy one. They have so many interesting features and are easy to use. Challenges and competitions on the app are insane. The FitBit is an amazing product.

With two sizes that can easily be adjusted to fit the wrist of virtually anyone, the FitBit can be used by children or adults. Once it’s charged and put on your wrist/clipped on your clothing, it does the tracking, not you. Gone are the days of taking your own pulse to monitor your aerobic exercise, or mapping out routes to reach a target mileage. FitBit does it all, once you start your workout. In order to access daily stats, all you have to do is press a button. It’ll show time, and as you push the button, it’ll switch from the current mode to the next, showing your stats. I enjoy how simple it is to access my stats. The FitBit app shows stats and allows for you to challenge friends. I love this features because it motivates me to run more so beat my competitors. Patient Engagement Research Paper

...reduction for the patient. Companies that produce a wearable device, like Fitbit or Jawbone, might measure patient engagement by consumer purchases and usage. In contrast, companies such as Practice Fusion or drchrono, might measure engagement by how frequently patients use the online portal to connect with their physicians or schedule appointments. Digital health companies need to target different areas in healthcare, and measure patient engagement accordingly. 2. What are some of the key challenges that startups and other healthcare organizations face when trying to engage patients/consumers? There is no question that digital health is on the rise. According to Rock Health’s report on consumer behavior, “Forty-six percent of consumers are now considered active digital health adopters, having used three or more categories of digital health tools (e.g., telemedicine, wearables)—up from 19% in 2015.” Patient engagement is a complicated puzzle and companies are still working on mastering this skill. There are some key challenges that startups and larger healthcare organizations both face when trying to engage patients. Healthcare has traditionally been slow to adopt and adapt to changes in technology. Healthcare is still in a transitional phase and not everyone is on the same page. There were major strides with the introduction of EHRs, however there are still physicians that prefer the traditional pen and paper method. As digital health continues to thrive, acceptance towards technology...

Influences Of Technology

...In “Meet Your iBrain” Gary and Vorgan explain that technology has caused “the brain to react more quickly.” As humans we have become better at “rapid ad incisive spurts” of concentration. Technology helps us become more efficient and betters our skills. Gary and Vorgan also explain that the more we use technology and surf the web, we “develop a better ability to go through large amounts of information.” Essentially we become better at skimming and gaining all the important key points in a paper or article. Our brains become experts at deciphering information. “Digital evolution” may also begin to change our brains and “increase our natural intelligence.” As stated in “Meet your iBrain” “IQ scores” have been observed and “scores have been steadily...

Nursing Informatics and Emerging Technologies

...Informatics and Emerging Technology in Healthcare Judi A. Gentes Franklin Pierce College Health informatics is relatively new with increased interest during the 1980’s and has expanded rapidly over the past couple years (Dalrymple,2011). It is a multidisciplinary field that uses health information technology to improve healthcare with the combination of higher quality, higher efficiency and new opportunities. All of which are designed to improve the overall effectiveness of patient care. Health informatics tools promote patient care that is safe, efficient, effective, timely and patient centered. The ANA Online Journal of Issues in Nursing identifies seven emerging technologies that will change the practice of nursing and three skill sets nursing will need to develop to acquire and use these emerging technologies. Table 1. Seven Emerging Technologies that Are Changing the Practice of Nursing | Technology | Benefits | Challenges | Genetics and Genomics | The majority of disease risk, health conditions and the therapies used to treat those conditions have a genetic and/or genomic element influenced by environmental, lifestyle, and other factors therefore impacting the entire nursing profession. | Many nurses currently in practice know little about genetics and genomics and lack the competence needed to effectively counsel and teach patients in this regard. | Less Invasive and More Accurate Tools for Diagnostics and Treatment | Non-invasive and minimally invasive...

Smart Fitness Equipment

...Analytical Report SMART EXERCISE When I first started researching for this topic, I thought well this should be easy enough to find all the material and sources I need to write this paper. The more I researched the topic, the more I found that it may be a good idea to, in a sense narrow this topic down, so it wasn’t such a vast topic and the report wasn’t just kind of all over the place. I decided to go in the direction of just simply covering one specific example of a few types of SMART technologies that exist today. First of all, what is SMART technology? According to TechTerms.com, SMART stands for, “Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology.” It is often times used to protect and prevent errors in hard drives. Put more simply, it’s basically technology that is dynamic, economical (most of the time), and engages in multiple long term solutions towards the health of humans and the productivity, through interactive multisensory technology, action based learning, and brain-body integrated exercise. This type of technology can be used through the use of SMART bands, or wearable equipment, such as the Garmin Vivofit or the Adidas Fit Smart: Fitness tracker, video game based systems such as the Wii Fit or XBOX Kinect, Personalized Apps that can be downloaded onto your smart phone, and even built-in to large workout equipment, like treadmills and ellipticals. One major type of this product is a multisensory fitness suite of products by Multisensory Products. One...

Health Informatics

...Healthcare Introduction Health informatics as defined by Shi and Singh 2015, as the application of information science to improve efficiency, accuracy, reliability of healthcare service, and inclusion of healthcare delivery. Healthcare informatics is becoming more complex than any other time in recent memory, the foundation needed to bolster device utilization and interoperability is more expanded, and there is even a more extensive scope of utilization to consider. As the populace ages, there is added pressure to provide patient care choices at home and in the community, implying that medical devices are getting to be a piece of a much bigger ecosystem spreading over the steadily developing continuum. This paper will analyze health informatics and discuss its benefits, trends, current issues, the impact health informatics in healthcare settings, and the role of health managers and the future. An interview will be conducted with a health professional to get their point of view of how health informatics have impacted their workplace, with further discussion of human resources, careers and the future. History The U.S. National Library of Medicine defines health informatics as a collaborative effort of designing, developing, adopting, and applying IT-based ideas in healthcare services delivery, management and planning (Kramer, 2012). In 1949, Gustav Wager of Germany founded the first professional organization for informatics and established...

Internet of Things

...| Internet of Things | 2014| Pragya Vaishwanar | Aricent Marketing Research Report | Summary It’s fair to say that more people have heard of the “internet of things” than have experienced it. More objects are becoming embedded with sensors and gaining the ability to communicate. The resulting information networks promise to create new business models, improve business processes, and reduce costs and risks. There is breathless press coverage of the phenomenon—always patiently re-explained by tech pundits as the trend by which all of one’s most mundane possessions will become internet-connected. These are invariably coupled with estimates that the internet of things will be a multi-trillion dollar business. 2014 is really, finally the year that the “internet of things”—that effort to remotely control every object on earth —becomes visible in one’s everyday lives. In a sense the internet of things is already with us. For one thing, anyone with a smartphone has already joined the club. The average smartphone is brimming with sensors—an accelerometer, a compass, GPS, light, sound, altimeter. It’s the prototypical internet-connected listening station, equally adept at monitoring our health, the velocity of our car, the magnitude of earthquakes and countless other things that its creators never envisioned. Yet despite repeated declarations one of the most successful sellers of baubles that help make your home “smart,” Smart-things, has only shipped 10,000 or so units since...
