It all began after Red Ribbon Week. Our council was brainstorming ideas for our room at the Haunted House. I had suggested the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” theme, which was a very popular horror game. Our council’s number one pick was Slenderman, but I had hope on the theme I suggested. As it turned out, “Five Nights at Freddy’s” was the chosen theme, and I was very excited, because I knew all about this topic. Hannah, one of my council leaders at the time, thought of the overall concept: a night guard warning the children, which would be followed by jump scares, which I agreed to. I used an air cannon and a wooden clapper to make loud, scary sounds. I also got the opportunity to bang on the metal chimes and scream. For the next three sessions, I was in our room. During two of the three sessions, I was a jumpscarer. When I was a jumpscarer the first time, I only managed to scare a few groups, and plus, people were still walking through the Haunted House when the lights turned on and I took off my mask, thinking my job was done. However, the last group managed to see me without the mask, which was a major fail. Also, the reason I was unable to scare some people because they saw me, so the next session, I moved to a different position and I managed to scare four out of every five groups. My last day in our room, I had to be a last minute Night Guard Worker, the scared protagonist in the game. I acted nervous and afraid, and people managed to buy into my fear. Furthermore, I tried to encourage Mr. Van Dam to stop touching people, but he was doing it anyway and there was nothing I could do. I also helped the jumpscarer that took my place, Rachel, move to a different hiding spot so that people who were entering again would be surprised. After school was over on Friday, October 30th, I was working at the Halloween dance door, selling glow items.
