Floor Plan Site Survey Data Sheet

Use the tables to gather the data necessary to analyze each of the five floor plans in the Floor Plan Site Survey exercise. The information gathered in this assignment will assist you in your final project.

Conference Center

Explain the major features of this floor plan. For example, are there large open spaces, large walls, cubes, or offices? | A few of the main characteristics which this floor plan provides are a lift, a big meeting room, and many concrete walls. The southern portion of the floor plan also has a worker rest room with vending machines. At the west portion there are lavatories which are segregated with concrete wall. | Identify areas of this floor plan that may present issues when designing your network. Why will these areas present issues? For each area identified, what can you do to overcome the issue? | Some areas that may present issues when designing a network would be the large conference room and the break room. The large conference room is surrounded by concrete walls and the AP is at one corner of the floor plan surrounded by more concrete walls. The break room is also surrounded by walls and vending machines. This causes the signals to weaken because of the several walls and metal obstacles that are interfering. One way to fix the issue is to rearrange the AP to another place where there is less interference or in this case less walls. | According to your site survey, is the data center an ideal location for the wireless access point? Would you place the access point somewhere else in the building? If so, where and why? Do you think it will be necessary to have multiple access points in this building? | The data center is definitely not the best location for the AP do to all the walls in the way. In my opinion I would place the AP in the center of the conference floor plan maybe even next to the storage room. Positioning the AP in the middle of the floor plan will provide better signals throughout the whole floor. In this case I don’t believe another AP unit would be necessary after positioning the one we have appropriately. |

Customer Service Call Center Explain the major features of this floor plan. For example, are there large open spaces, large walls, cubes, or offices? | Main characteristics for this floor plan incorporates metallic shelving units which run north to south situated close to the center room. The metallic shelvings are roughly 75% of the distance from the southern wall to the north. There are concrete walls which cover the western meeting room and to the south of the meeting room you can find a rest room which has a microwave oven and vending machines. There are also blocks of cubicles and many other workplaces. | Identify areas of this floor plan that may present issues when designing your network. Why will these areas present issues? For each area identified, what can you do to overcome the issue? | The main area in this floor plan that is suffering from no frequency is located behind the metal shelving. This area has no signal getting to it because of the metal shelving blocking the signals from transmitting. One way of correcting the issue in this scenario would be to position the AP towards the upper middle section of the floor plan where it can send signals from the middles top of the floor. | According to your site survey, is the data center an ideal location for the wireless access point? Would you place the access point somewhere else in the building? If so, where and why? Do you think it will be necessary to have multiple access points in this building? | In this scenario I believe that the AP is located in a good location although more access points are needed for this floor. The data center that it’s being used in this plan provides a great connection to the right side of the floor plan or metal shelving, but the left side is dead. This is why I believe that placing another AP unit towards the left side of the floor plan maybe even in the conference room would be the ideal choice. |

Executive Office

Explain the major features of this floor plan. For example, are there large open spaces, large walls, cubes, or offices? | There are blocks of offices on the western portion of the floor. Additionally there is the records room which is centrally located and it is in the middle of concrete walls. A kitchen area in the southern end of the floor is also in the middle of a concrete wall. | Identify areas of this floor plan that may present issues when designing your network. Why will these areas present issues? For each area identified, what can you do to overcome the issue? | The areas on this floor plan that may cause issue with interference are the record room and the kitchen. Both of these areas consist of concrete walls that cause interference with any signal that may try to transmit through these areas. In order for this to be corrected several access points should be installed throughout the floor. | According to your site survey, is the data center an ideal location for the wireless access point? Would you place the access point somewhere else in the building? If so, where and why? Do you think it will be necessary to have multiple access points in this building? | The data center is located in a good location but more access points are needed in this scenario. In this floor two access points would be ideal. One AP towards the middle section around the lounge or break room and the other AP at the north end side of the building around the food court area. |

Outbound Call Center

Explain the major features of this floor plan. For example, are there large open spaces, large walls, cubes, or offices? | There are four sets of offices and each is segregated by concrete walls. I think that a number of APs will be required for this floor plan. There are meeting rooms in the eastern wall and rest area lines the north wall. We also have metallic shelving units close to the middle. | Identify areas of this floor plan that may present issues when designing your network. Why will these areas present issues? For each area identified, what can you do to overcome the issue? | One area in this floor plan that presents issues is the metallic shaving wall which interferes from the signals going beyond this point. The next area is the microwave and vending machine area. By having these devices near the AP it diminishes the signals strength from going even further then what they should. Following the microwave and vending machine area, comes the area with the four concrete walls. These walls alone weakens the signal strength in a major way and at times causing a dead zone like in this case in the lower left corner section. | According to your site survey, is the data center an ideal location for the wireless access point? Would you place the access point somewhere else in the building? If so, where and why? Do you think it will be necessary to have multiple access points in this building? | In this case I would move the current access point towards the middle of the floor maybe in the center where the walls unite and then following with two more AP units. One towards the right side of the floor plan maybe around the top first conference room and the second one toward the storage room area. |

Customer Relations Office

Explain the major features of this floor plan. For example, are there large open spaces, large walls, cubes, or offices? | We have concrete walls on the northern side, vending machines, a microwave and many glass walls. | Identify areas of this floor plan that may present issues when designing your network. Why will these areas present issues? For each area identified, what can you do to overcome the issue? | In this floor plan the area around the concrete walls have a weaker signal strength compared to the area below the data center with the glass wall. Another area with issue here is the area in the left bottom corner with the glass wall in the offices. In order to correct this issue we will need to relocate the existing AP unit to a more accessible location. | According to your site survey, is the data center an ideal location for the wireless access point? Would you place the access point somewhere else in the building? If so, where and why? Do you think it will be necessary to have multiple access points in this building? | For this floor plan I do believe that the data center should be relocated toward the center of the floor plan. In this floor plan most of the right section of the building has strong signals compared to the left side. If we would place the AP unit towards the middle section of the floor plan I believe the connection would work best. In this situation I don’t believe another AP unit is needed. |
