On July 22 1905 in Philadelphia, social worker and reformer Florence Kelly delivered a speech before the convention of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. During her speech, Kelly spoke on the topic of child labor in an attempt to fight for child labor laws and improved working conditions for working women. Throughout the text, Kelly uses rhetorical devices in order to convey her message efficiently. One way Kelly conveys her message to the audience is by appealing to logic through the use of logos. Throughout the text, Kelly points out laws that do not protect or work in favor of children. For example, Jelly explains to the audience that in Georgia, there are no restrictions whatsoever for child labor. This means that “a girl
