I was very assured Information technology would be what I would begin to study as an undergraduate. My initial thought of my major came from a love of computers that began in my childhood. Speaking to my former mentor Dr. Valerie Hall that thought changed quickly. I Then started to have a new found interest about the world around me and to seek the answers of questions I did not have the answers too which only would be acquired through research and higher learning. I am now looking to further develop my understanding of the human services sector.
In college, I decided to major in sociology. I am certain I possess the skills needed to become successful as I further my education. My days at Florida Memorial University helped me to gain understanding in the subject of Sociology and its underlying principles such as psychology, social theory and marriage and family. The work through my internship as a peer mentor gave me experience in working with individual’s who required assistance with their well-being. In this position you are matched with students from every age group. Coordinating social activities and interactive events around the campus. Semester Assessments were administered to make certain the program is successful in meeting the needs of the university, also creating power point presentations to inform the students but also to create discussion based forums. I maintained a one on one relationship with each student. There has to be a sense of trust and comfort so that support and guidance can be provided.
