One person that has affected my life is Steven Ellison, or better known as his alias Flying Lotus. He is a multi-genre music producer, composer, and rapper, from Los Angeles, California. Before making music, he was already slightly well-known for being the nephew of John and Alice Coltrane.
Music is a big part of my life. When I began seriously collecting and listening to music, Flying Lotus really influenced and expanded my tastes.
But when asked to do a quick presentation on someone that changed your life, why would I choose a musician? I always have a problem when I focus on school because I want to do what I want to do. I want to do things for the right reasons and because I enjoy it, not for a paycheck.
Most artists have this dilemma as well. But most artists also sell their identities for money.
I respect what he does. He enjoys what he does for a career, makes many people happy, and does it for himself. He stays true to himself and people respect him for it. He collaborates with many different artists, and is in it for the long run. I find it inspiring and am trying to shape my career like he shaped his.
Ellison has five studio albums, a handful of Eps, and one rap mixtape. He produced a ton of music for Adult Swim as well. Everything he does is very different, but it is always very appealing to the senses.
