What was looked at was how worms were affected when exposed to different colors of food dye. The main question was how would the worms burrow when exposed to blue, green, orange, and yellow food dye for different intervals of time. Burrowing time was studied by worms after the worms were exposed to food dye for intervals of 2 minutes, 6 minutes, 10 minutes, and 14 minutes. The worm was placed on top of soil with a timer starting and the timer was stopped after the worm was fully under the surface of the soil. It was found that worms tend to burrow faster when exposed to food dye no matter what color. Looking at this question was important because many food that are made today are processed and have food dye additives. The food dye additives

Food Dye Research Paper

...Food dyes are used in many common foods. There are some food dyes that are banned, some that people are allergic too, and some that ADHD kids cannot have because there is suspicion that it may cause hyperactivity. I wanted to research this to see what grape drinks people can have that has the least amount of dye in it. Some food dyes, or food colorings, are banned from the United States and other countries. These food dyes consist of FD&C Orange No. 1; FD&C Red No.32; FD&C Yellows No. 1, 2, 3 and 4; FD&C Violet No. 1; and FD&C Reds No. 1 and 4. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is an agency of the United States federal government that tests, inspects, approves, and sets safety standards for foods, food additives, drugs, cosmetics, and household medical devices. Many countries with the same food coloring controls, like Canada and Great Britain, also banned the use of Red No. 10 and Yellow No. 5 is also always undergoing test. In the 1970s, a soviet scientist claimed a link between the dye and cancer. The U.S. test proved some correlation as well. It was never linked to death or illness, but the substance was banned from the United States in 1967. Some people are allergic to food dyes. A dye called cochineal dye, also called carmine, is not harmful to most people, but there have still been reports of patients having...

Isolation and Process Optimization of Textile Dye Degrading Bacteria

...Title: Isolation and Process Optimization of textile dye degrading bacteria Abstract: Bacteria can remove dyes from wastewater and soil, leading to a decrease in their toxicity. The detoxification rate depends upon media and culture conditions. The decolourization/removal of textile dyes like bromophenol blue, methylene blue, methyl green, and malachite green, in addition to various other industrial dyes, using bacteria isolated from soil has been an important area of research for bioremediation and the present work is focused on this specific aspect. The effect of independent variables such as time, temperature, pH, and agitation on decolorization efficiency of bacteria has been optimized. Biodegradation of methylene blue and bromophenol blue was demonstrated by monitoring the effects of the different parameters and determining optimal conditions for degradation activity.   Introduction Several industrial activities, such as textile dyeing, olive oil extraction and the manufacture of pulp and paper are characterized by intensive water consumption rates. They release huge amounts of more or less coloured effluents into the environment. As far as synthetic dye release is concerned, textile dyeing facilities and the manufacture of dyestuffs are two major polluting sources. In addition, traditional textile dyeing processes generate a large amount of coloured effluents, because about 100 litres of water are required to process 1 kg of dyed fabrics. Moreover, up to 15% of applied...

...KRAFT’S BUDGETING AND STRATEGY A case study Presented to CASE STUDY IN PRODUCTION AND OPERATION MANAGEMENT BUDGETING AND STRATEGY A KRAFT FOOD INTRODUCTION The company has its origin as National Dairy Products Corporation (National Dairy), formed on December 10, 1923, by Thomas H. McInnerney. The firm was initially set up to execute on a rollup strategy in the then fragmented United States ice cream industry. Through acquisitions it expanded into a full range of dairy products. By 1930 it was the largest dairy company in the United States and the world, exceeding Borden. McInnerney operated the Hydrox Corporation, an ice cream company located in Chicago, Illinois. In 1923 he went to Wall Street to convince investment bankers there to finance his scheme for consolidating the United States ice cream industry. He initially found "hard sledding" with one banker saying the dairy industry "lacked dignity." He persevered and convinced a consortium including Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers to finance a rollup strategy. As a result of his efforts, National Dairy Products Corporation was formed in 1923 in a merger of McInnerney's Hydrox with Rieck McJunkin Dairy Co of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The resulting firm was then listed on the New York Stock Exchange with the offer of 125,000 shares having been The firm grew quickly through a large number of acquisitions. As it is typical...

Environmental and Food Microbiology Repor

...Introduction: The microbiology of food and the environment are two very important fields in the large scope of microbiological research. Because microorganisms exist almost everywhere, it is important to determine the influences that they place on the food we depend on for survival, and the environment in which we humans call home. In this lab, we conducted five experiments in these two fields, and in doing so gained a better understanding of the influences and importance of microbes in food and the environment. The first exercise was the enumeration of soil microbes. This experiment showcased the immense diversity of bacteria, actinomycetes, and fungi found in soil. This diversity ranges from microbes that are beneficial to the environment by decomposing dead organic matter into energy sources usable by other organisms, to the pathogenic bacterial and fungal spores that can infect humans and animals alike. The techniques used are serial dilutions, which allow for quantification and a close estimation of the amount of said organisms found in a soil sample. (1) The second exercise that we conducted was the microbiology of water experiment. This is a very important standardized experiment used to determine the density of coliforms found in a 100 mL sample of water. It also can be used more specifically to determine the density of Escherichia coli, which can cause food poisoning amongst other illnesses. The techniques used are the multiple tube fermentation method, which involves...
