In the film Forrest Gump directed by Robert Zemeckis one of the most inspirational movie characters ever was born, Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump. One of the most inspirational film characters of all time. Forrest symbolizes the way we wish to deal with the problems we face throughout the course of our lives, and how we would go about solving them if the Universe was on our side. In order to get the Universe on his side; Forrest had 3 essential qualities to separate himself from others: honesty, integrity, and compassion. If you have these 3 qualities along with acceptance as Forrest did, life will seem to work out for the best. Then, true happiness can be experienced.

Honesty is an important quality which we seek, and can be seen in Forrest’s character. When he was in the army, Forrest made a promise to enter the Shrimping business with Bubba. Despite the death of Bubba, Forrest still went on to support Bubba’s family, and started a shrimping business of his own. Most people would be so disheartened by the death of their best friend, they wouldn’t be able to find the strength to carry on their promises. Because Forrest was such a strong and honest person, he carried out his promise in the toughest of times.

Forrest had more integrity than most people dream to have, and that really distinguished his unique personality. In fact, the integrity of Forrest Gump is unmatched by any other film character. For example, running is a trademark of Forrest; he always runs to get out of a difficult situation. Even if being chased by a car, an entire football team, Forrest used his integrity to pull himself out of tough circumstances. Running across the country for 3 years, playing ping pong in the army, and getting into the shrimping business all demonstrated the integrity of Forrest Gump. In order to play ping ping, he had to overcome the difficulties of being in the army. In order to run across the country, he had to sacrifice many aspects of his life. In order to get into the Shrimping business, he had to learn how to operate a boat, catch a shrimp, and learn all of the necessary skills. Were any of these tasks easy? No. So why did Forrest do them? Because he saw an opportunity where others didn’t, used his integrity to follow through on his actions and make the best out of his situation.
By far, the most important trait that Forrest possessed was compassion. With an IQ of 75 as a child, he wasn’t the smartest person in the world, but he had an immeasurable amount of compassion. Forrest’s relationship with Jenny, Lt. Dan, and Bubba are a fine example. Even though Jenny seemed to come and go throughout his life, Forrest never lost his love for her. When Jenny was at her lowest points, he always tried to lift her spirits, and never wanted to see her get hurt. When Forrest Gump was in the army, his biggest priority was saving the lives of his friends. When under attack, Forrest saved as many people as he could, including Lt. Dan. However, Dan wanted to die in battle rather than be saved by another, so he held a grudge against Forrest for a long time. Dan spent a good amount of time cursing Forrest for saving his life (he had lost both of his legs). The 2 run into each-other quite a bit throughout the course of the movie, and Forrest is compassionate towards Lt. Dan each and every time they see each-other. Dan remains bitter at Forrest for a long time, until he takes up an invitation to join the Shrimping business with Forrest. So why would Forrest Gump help out Lt. Dan, who had nothing but hate towards him? Because Forrest felt he had a debt to repay to Lt. Dan, and was committed to it, no matter the cost. If you know a real life person who has compassion similar to Forrest Gump, then I would like to hear about it. Forrest shows all of the traits of a true friend; honesty, integrity, and compassion. A combination of the 3 can lead to success, as evidenced by the movie.

But what about all of the running that Forrest does in the movie? Isn’t running a cowardly method for solving problems? Not for Forrest. As a recurring theme, running away from problems works for Gump; and if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. Running across the country for 3 years straight helped Forrest clear his mind of all the problems that he was facing at the time. Was it controversial? Yes. But whatever works, just go for it. Forrest had no fear of taking action to improve his quality of life, and in this case, he knew what was best for him. After gaining publicity for his long run, a group of runners started to run behind Forrest. Who do these people represent? They represent the people that we affect when we decide to take action on anything. ANYTHING. Whether big or small, we affect others when we take action. For example, look at the smile on our parents faces when we are learning to walk, learning to read, or learning to ride a bike. What about the thoughts of others when they are reading an article? I am taking action by writing this article, and your mind is being affected by reading it. The effects can be positive or negative: depending on the person that is being affected, and the type of action taken. During his run, Forrest gave tips to others, and even unintentionally helped a man create a T-Shirt design.

“Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get”. Forrest is seen with a box of chocolates, eating them calmly on the bus stop. He plans to give them to Jenny, and they represent the different stages of Forrest’s life. From childhood memories, to playing football in college, to being in the army, starting a shrimping business, mastering the game of ping-pong, and the steps he took to become wealthy. Just like a box of chocolates, life is unpredictable, and you can never let your guard down, because you can never know what will happen tomorrow.

Who is Forrest Gump? He is what a lot of us strive to become: wealthy, successful, and a good person. He is the set of all traits that we need to become better human beings. Honesty, integrity, and compassion being the main three. There is no greater example of a great human being than Forrest Gump himself – the epitome of inspiration for years to come.

Forest Gump

...My favorite film "Forrest Gump" Almost everybody likes to watch movies and we have seen a lot of them. Some of them are better than others. Sometimes people have different opinions whether a particular movie is good or not. The movie I like the most is a story about mentally deficient man. The whole picture is funny, moving and we see a great performance by actors and actresses. Therefore my favorite movie is "Forrest Gump" by Robert Zemeckis. The movie is full of very funny dialogues and situations. It's a good quality humor though. We have many chances to laugh at innocence and the naivety of Forrest. I find that kind of humor very interesting and the whole movie is really funny. "Forrest Gump" is a very moving story. It shows that it's possible to enjoy life without being stingy, materialistic or ruthless. It helps us to realize that there are many people among us that were born with various defects. That fact makes me think how fortunate I am to be totally healthy. The movie contains also a love story. It's a dramatic plot because Forrest loves a girl who doesn't think of him as a serious partner because of his defect. However they eventually get married. Although she passes away due to a fatal disease. Moreover we see love between mother and son where Forest's mom even slept with the school principal in order to give the son a chance of going to a normal school. All those things make me think of this movie as of a very moving story. We see very good performance by Tom...

...Naomi Schwartz Mrs. Ryan-Aube Human Relations Period 1 3/4/11 Forrest Gump Essay The character of Forrest Gump is one of the most beloved characters in movie history; the relationships are symbolic to our relationships in our everyday lives with people around us. The things he says have stuck with us even after we have seen the film. Momma, Jenny, Lt. Dan, and Bubba are just people that we love; these people make us who we are Momma Gump was the foundation for everything Forrest was in the movie. The way that momma interacted with Forrest is to encourage him, and reassure him that he was like everyone else. Even when unknown people on the street stared at the strange little boy with braces on his feet she made sure that Forrest knew that he was special. This was how he benefitted from his relationship with his mother. Momma on the other hand got the benefit of seeing Forrest amount to everything and more than what she imagined for her son. When the local school rejected him for a “special” school she would not take no for an answer, in these kinds of conflicts she fought for her son. Close to the end of the movie when Momma was on her dead bed she once again reassured Forrest that he was her special son.”Death is just a part of life. It’s just something we’re all destined to do, I didn’t know it but I was destined to be your momma, I did the best I could. “ Lt. Dan was a most peculiar character; he was Forrest’s Staff sergeant in Vietnam. He was dirty, and he...

Introduction to Film

...from the 1950’s to the 1980’s from being disabled as a child wearing braces on his legs to a wealthy businessman who ironically became involved in almost every major event in American history. The movie “Forrest Gump” is said to be a movie that makes you laugh, cry and think. In 1995, Robert Zemeckis, director of Forrest Gump won the Oscar for best achievement in directing and in his acceptance speech he thanks the “motion picture fans” by saying “In historic numbers you have embraced a film that at its heart offers a human life affirming hopeful story” as I agree that this movie has made a social impact on us all that have seen the movie. “Telling the story out of chronological order, jumping back and forth between the present and the past is in Non-linear order” (Goodykoontz, 2011). The movie begins with Forrest Gump played by Tom Hanks is sitting on a bench waiting for a bus. We don’t know why he’s sitting there but as he’s sitting, he is telling his life story to people who are waiting for the bus as well going from the time he was a young boy to an adult and he eventually gets to why he is waiting for the bus. Young Forrest played by Michael Conner Humphreys is stricken as a different child because he has an IQ of 75 and braces on his legs. Forrest’s mother Mrs. Gump played by Sally Field, is initially his backbone encouraging him to not think about how people feel about him as she...

Position Paper: Smoke Free Legislation. Uta Engl 1302

...Shannon Esperson ENGL 1302 Dr. Christie Position Paper Final Just last month I was in Las Vegas Nevada dancing the nights away in some of the hottest night clubs around when someone in my party got a headache from all the secondhand smoke she was being exposed to. At that point in time we left the night club and shortly after her headache disappeared; it was as easy as that. This experience got me thinking about those who don’t have the ability to control their secondhand smoke exposure and what, if anything, is being done to protect them. As easy as it was for myself to leave this smoky environment, a child in a smoke filled car, for example, would be trapped with no hope or realistic ability to escape the situation. Smoke free citizens have pressed legislators for years to make their work and public environments smoke free. Smoking cigarettes is now illegal in government buildings, and many bars and restaurants nationwide and yet only six states have laws making it illegal to smoke in a car with a minor present. Shouldn’t minors be afforded the same liberties we adults demand for ourselves? I have struggled in my opinion on smoke free legislation for some time now. As a libertarian who appreciates the least government involvement possible, I support the freedom we have to smoke in bars and casinos in Las Vegas. These are adult only environments and as adults we have the choice to engage in the lawful behaviors we see fit. However, as a pediatric nurse who witnesses...

...growth, rain, temperature fluctuations, predictions, parasitism, death and so on occurring in a relatively large geographic are tied together by some dominating physical feature. Thus one could envision ,and for example ”,the prairie ecosystem,”which would encompass a large, more or less self-sustaining, relatively flat and dry region in which perennial grasses were the dominant vegetation, characteristic native vertebrate animals were predominantly herbivores such as bis on and rodents, and the major shaping physical forces were fire, wind and extreme temperature fluctuations. If you're bored by prairie ecosystem, then of course you could envision a coral reef ecosystem,a desert ecosystem,or the most complicated ecosystem of all,the tropical forest ecosystem. In the absence of humane disturbance, ecosystem tend to remain stable for relatively long periods thousand of years. During most of Earths history, destruction resulted from global events, typically of geological origin, such as the drifting of continents and the rising and falling of ocean levels. Ecology and Evolution

...Environment, Resources, and Competition University of Phoenix Ecology and Evolution BIO 315 January 14, 2011 Environmental Ecology The ecosystem I choose to analyze is the tropical rain forest. These forests contain large trees and dense vegetation with warm temperatures year round accompanied by frequent rainfall. Tropical rain forests also have very diverse species of plants and animals; there is a very high level of biodiversity present there as well. Most trees have very short roots, particularly taller trees, while others have deeper roots. The soil is very thin because the tree branches and leaves keep the ground shaded and void of sunlight. This also makes it more challenging for smaller plant life to thrive, due to a lack of rich soil needed for them to flourish. Thus, small plants and shrubs that do survive must have qualities that make living without much tillable land possible. Moreover, animal diets must not rely solely on small plants and shrubs, because they are of limited supply. The temperatures of the tropical rain forests are typically warm with an average yearly low of 20C and an average yearly high of 34C. These temperatures are often accompanied with constant rainfall. Tropical rain forests get an average yearly low of 200 cm of rainfall and an average yearly high of 400 cm of rainfall; this combination create humid conditions under the trees and at ground level (Smith & Smith...

This research addresses the question: are honey marketing organisations efficient in their pricing. Two types of honey (white honey and brown fluid honey) are marketed, and the marketing organisations are judged organised and efficient given the marketing functions have been liberalised with little or no state intervention in the honey sub-sector. Honey marketing organisations are profitable with the return of profit margins to total cost equal to or greater than the minimum interest rate of 18%. Whilst it is recommended that actors or stakeholders in this sector should organise workshops/training sessions in processing and marketing to empower themselves, further studies should be focused on the cost of processing techniques. Tropical Rain Forest

...Research Tropical Rain Forests. Do you think it is important to preserve these rainforests - and why? What is the best way we might go about doing this - especially considering we don't have any Tropical Rain Forests in this country? Yes, I think it is significant to preserve what few hot Rain forests that are remaining. Tropical rain forests are one of the most bio-diverse and biologically important areas on the planet. Much of their living thing and stand life is unique and unreproduced anywhere else. Classification and farming are the two largest influences on the rain forest, causing many thousands of acres to become either deforested or even unfruitful. Rain forests are the prime land-based stand systems for the water and carbon cycles in the mood and groundwater; removing more and more of the rain forest causes the carbon cycle to become disturbed, with not enough carbon dioxide converted back to oxygen. The undergrowth in some areas of a rainforest can be restricted by poor penetration of sunlight to ground level. If the leaf canopy is destroyed or thinned, the ground beneath is soon colonized by a dense, tangled growth of vines, shrubs and small trees, called a jungle. There are two types of rainforest, tropical rainforest and temperate rainforest. It is important to preserve what few Tropical Rain forests that are remaining. The Tropical Rain forests provide the world with so many important tools for our survival. The rain forest is home to a variety of different animal...

Deforestation

Can we please go to the forest to watch the boats race?” Junior, age 10, was very excited about the idea of watching the boats race from the relative quiet and shade of one of the forests to border the river. “Sissy already has the car packed for the trip, and I think she even remembered to grab the charcoal this time!” Dean opened one eye. Seven in the morning was a bit early to leave for the boat races thirty minutes away when they started at nine. But, such was Junior’s excitement that Dean forced himself out of his bed earlier than he planned on. “Ok, son. Let’s check Renee’s packing and we’ll see about weather and conditions. Does Mom have her work finished yet?” Anne appeared framed in the bedroom door. “Yeah. I have some more reading to do, but I can do it at the site. The races are not my favorite thing, but you’ll need my help if the kids want to get wet. However, there is something I need to talk to you about. Junior, honey, please go make sure you have a cooler full of water and juice for us today.” Off like a shot, Junior dashed out of the room and Anne went in, closing the door behind her and lifting Dean’s laptop to the bed. “Dean, I think the forest is gone. Check this out.” Dean read the headlines and cutlines of the pictures and articles that Anne showed him. He shook his head as one by one they all told a devastating...

Variation in topography and proximity to bodies of water causes large climatic variations and these deviations have created distinct ecological zones, which are home to a complex web of biological diversity. The Landscape New York’s land forms were shaped by the recent glacial stage which disappeared not more than 8,000 to 10,000 years ago. Thompson (1977) identified nine major land form regions within the state. The Adirondack upland in the northern-most portion of the State includes New York’s highest point, Mt. Other upland regions include the Appalachian upland, which occupies nearly half the state, and the Tug Hill Upland, which is the least settled part of the state due to its poor soils, bad drainage and excessive precipitation...

Case Brief

...Case brief of Malaysia case To make the case brief it is necessary to divide our analysis in 5 phases: • Situation • Questions • Hypothesis • Proof and action • Alternatives 1) Situation Government of Malaysia is in front of big challenges, prime-minister is going to have very important meeting, where will be held discussion about future of the country. Malaysia developed its economy by exporting timber, and this caused destruction of local nature, which was a serious threaten for global world. So government should decide how to respond to the western environmentalists, as they were threatening they would make an important restrictions against Malaysia. 2) Questions The important questions which may appear around this case are following: 1) What is the basic motive for western environmentalists? (Are they really interested with condition of the world or just lobbing their countries?) 2) Are there other substitutes for Malaysia, which can replace the export of timber? And also important question is, that how the restrictions of environmentalists will hurt the economy of Malaysia? 3) Hypothesis By foreseeing socio-economical situation of Malaysia, we can make an appropriate hypothesis. Export is very important for every country, especially for the developing countries. And in Malaysia the export of timber is the greatest part of whole export. In spite of this, Malaysia is trying to shorten the export of timber as raw materials, and they try to encourage local industries...
