Jail Responsibilities

...Jail Responsibilities Monique Priorello September 23, 2012 One of the main responsibilities of a jail is to give the officers the correct “Police Correspondence” courses. This is because these courses give the officers the effective basic training that they need to do things such as; Writing of Memoranda, Police Reports, and Civilian Letters. What needs to be done first is make sure that there are NO errors. This means in spelling, punctuation, price, and grammar. These should be thoroughly, and constantly, edited. Another thing is conciseness; this means it should be brief or limited in words. Although, concision does not mean deleting words that count just to make your statements ‘rough in manner’. Officers should avoid tired old phrases, also known as triteness. Examples of these are; “in the final analysis”, “cold as ice”, “hard as a rock”, and “last but not the least”. They should also avoid misleading expressions (euphemisms) such as “meet our Creator” which means death and “Policy of Disinformation” which means lying to the public. Weak phrases should be avoided also. Weak phrases are ones such as; “wealthy business person”, “Carrying a child” and “one year old boy”. Instead, what can be used are phrases such as “tycoon”, “pregnant” and “one year of age boy”. Police officers must NEVER discriminate because of gender. Neutral terms should be used to manifest, fairness and equality between sexes. Examples are; “If a woman drives” to “if a person...

In this way we have attempted to eliminate a large degree of subjectivity to answer these metrics from official company filings with securities regulators and stock exchanges. The GMI research process starts with a review of all pertinent public data, including regulatory filings, company websites, news services and other specialized websites. All data collected by GMI are entered into a relational database. Once the research template answers have been compiled and have been subjected to various quality control checks, data entry reports are sent to each company in our universe for a final accuracy check. After any company adjustments are made the data are locked and GMI runs a scoring model that calculates and assigns ratings to each company. Companies are scored on a scale of 1.0 (lowest) to 10.0 (highest) and are always scored relative to the other companies in our research universe. Companies are assigned 14 ratings in all. The first are GMI global ratings. Global ratings are designed to demonstrate how each company's governance profile compares to all others in the GMI universe. Global ratings include an...

Juvenile Process and Corrections

...juvenile is considered to be an individual, under the age of 18, approaching an adult. However, approaching an adult does not always mean that juveniles will have an adult mindset. Therefore, juveniles may need extra attention to help get their lives on track. This paper will examine the process and corrections of delinquent juveniles. The police and other law enforcement agencies usually have first contact with juvenile offenders. Juveniles can come into contact with law enforcement in three ways. First, law enforcement officers may see a law violation and respond. Second, officers may receive a report of delinquency and investigate it. Third, juvenile offenders might turn themselves in, accepting responsibility for a delinquent behavior. Officers have a variation of options to control juveniles when they come into contact with them. These options can be grouped into informal and formal options. The more serious the delinquent behavior, the less discretion that officers have to informally resolve the matter, basically not arrest the youth. Officers have four informal options when dealing with juvenile offenders. First, ignore the behavior, second, give the juvenile a warning and call his or her parents, three, make a referral to a social service agency, and finally, take the youth to the police...

A business plan is quite detail oriented and should be both informative and analytical (Crockett-Hoggard, 2014). Banks are number driven and risk factors are also considered when lending money. A personal loan and business loan have different underwriting guidelines. In personal lending, an individual with an 850 credit score typically gets better interest rates than someone considered higher risk at 650. A similar scenario holds true for business loans. For instance, a company with assets and receipts, at a brick-and-mortar location, is more likely to get funding than a home-based internet company. The first page of the report is a basic introduction, cover letter. The business plan Section 1.0 standard practice is to include an Executive Summary. The executive summary of a report is formal and impersonal. An Executive Summary is an overview of the most important aspects written in the business plan. It should introduce, describe the business, services...

The Dark Side of Authority

...Corruption Ruth V. Aguilera Abhijeet K. Vadera ABSTRACT. Corruption poisons corporations in America and around the world, and has devastating consequences for the entire social fabric. In this article, we focus on organizational corruption, described as the abuse of authority for personal benefit, and draw on Weber’s three ideal-types of legitimate authority to develop a theoretical model to better understand the antecedents of different types of organizational corruption. Specifically, we examine the types of business misconduct that organizational leaders are likely to engage in, contingent on their legitimate authority, motives, and justifications. We conclude by suggesting managerial implications of our theoretical model and propose directions for future research. KEY WORDS: authority, bureaucracy, corruption, opportunity, motivation, justification, types of organizational corruption, weber, white-collar crime The issue of corruption has been gaining increasing importance in today’s world. The World Bank has singled out corruption as the largest obstacle to economic and social development, and in our search of the word ‘corruption’ in article headings in The Wall Street Journal in 2004, the word appeared 496 times. Much evidence also suggests that corruption is as ancient as disloyalty and greed, particularly in the context of politics. For example, in a fourth century B.C. manifesto entitled Arthashastra (‘Science of Polity’), Indian political philosopher, Kautilya discusses...
