...EXTRACTION Concepcion, Ma. Noelle. U., Corpus, Ian Dexter. N., Dayanghirang, Vivien Angela I., De Vera, Yerim K., Del Pilar, Nicole Alexandre L. Group 3 – 2CPH Organic Chemistry Laboratory ABSTRACT The group extracted caffeine from tea using single extraction, where 10 tea bags(15g) were boiled in 100ml of water containing 4.4g of anhydrous sodium carbonate. The extract was placed in a separatory funnel and the 60 ml of dichloromethane was poured at once to the mixture in a separatory funnel. From two distinctive layers, the clear portion was collected in a beaker containing anhydrous sodium sulfate. The group decanted the solution to pre-weighed evaporating dish and was evaporated to dryness. The weight of the dried product was 0.9 g, which was determined by subtracting the weight of pre-weighed evaporating dish from weight of evaporating dish containing the residue. The percentage yield of the caffeine was 6%. INTRODUCTION: Extraction is the process of solute tra-nsfer from one solvent to another solvent to where the extractive is more soluble (Pavia, 1998). The theory of extraction is the immiscibility in two liquid phases to separate only desired content from the others. It is used in the isolation of natural products, which consist of multi-component mixtures, from its sources. It commonly utilizes organic solvents, such as ether, hexane, and benzene or methylene chloride to extract organic substance. Extraction consists aqueous phase and organic phase,...

There are two types of chemical bond: ionic and covalent bond. An ionic or electrovalent bond results from the electrostatic attraction between metal and non-metal atoms by the transfer of electrons. One example is the formation of bond between a sodium metal atom and a chlorine non-metal atom [1]. In contrast, covalent bond involves the sharing of valence electrons between non-metal atoms. A covalent bond becomes polar when there is unequal sharing of bonding electrons. This happens when the elements involved in the bond has a significant difference in their electronegativity, such as in hydrochloric acid, HCl. Equal distribution of bonding electrons leads to the formation of a non-polar covalent bond. ...

...president is Gianni Infantino. FIFA does not control the official rules of soccer, but it is responsible for the administration and promotion of a myriad of tournaments which generate revenue from sponsorships. FIFA has had substantially high revenues since 2013 of over a billion dollars and net profits reaching over $70 million, along with over a billion dollars in cash reserves. Since FIFA is such a powerful association and is responsible for providing the world’s most watched sporting event, it has been linked with corruption, bribery, and alleged vote-rigging. Such corruption has brought about the questioning of former FIFA Presidet, Sepp Blatter and the awarded 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar. Purpose This Formal Report is meant to shed light on the operations and hidden decision making that connects FIFA with the aforementioned allegations. Soccer is the world’s most popular sport and with this research we can deconstruct how the laws and governance of FIFA affect those involved. In order to do this we must look into FIFA’s six recognized confederations; CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, CAF, UEFA, AFC, and OFC. These confederations oversee soccer in the different continents and...

...Determining Enzyme Specificity in chemical reactions Introduction Enzymes are proteins that catalyze chemical reactions by speeding up the rate of the reaction and are usually named for the substrates they work on most with –ase suffix e.g. Substrate- Lactose, Enzyme- Lactase. Every reaction requires activation energy to begin and without the aid of enzymes chemical reactions require high levels of activation energy and would be too slow to support life within cells. Since every chemical reaction that occurs in the cell produces a chain reaction that triggers other reactions enzymes help set a pace that makes things flow at a rate that ensures all reactions are timely and therefore do not hinder other progressive reactions. However, in order to ensure that there is no confusion within the cell, DNA provides the coding for each enzyme with a specific active site onto which only one or two particular substrates can attach. Based on this information it was hypothesized that Lactose is the specific enzyme for Lactose. In this experiment the enzyme Lactase was used on the substrates Lactose and Maltose to find out which of the two it would catalyze in the production of Glucose a molecule common in both substrates. Materials and Methods Two microfuge tubes one labeled Lactose, and the other Maltose. Using a clean plastic pipette 500ul of Milk (the source of the substrate Lactose) was added into the Lactose microfuge tube up to the 0.5 line and using another clean plastic...

...Identification and Synthesis of an Unknown Ionic Compound 3/24/16 Department of College of Natural Science, Michigan State University, Farm Lane, East Lansing, MI 48825 Chemistry 161, Section 10 Dr. Joseph Ward Abstract The goal of this experiment is to identify an unknown compound. To identify this compound a series of test were performed to find the chemical and physical properties of the unknown compound. The test performed; flame test, solubility test, halide test, acetate test, ammonium test, nitrate test, sulfur test, carbonate test, calcium test and pH test. When the flame test of the unknown resulted in a brick red color, it was determined that the unknown contained calcium. Another calcium test was tested and proved that the unknown was calcium. Since the unknown is dissolvable in water, CaCO3 was no longer a possible candidate because it is insoluble. The pH test for the unknown was 5 whereas the pH for calcium chloride is 8 and the unknown tested negative for halide, therefor calcium chloride was not an option for the unknown as well. The last calcium compound left was calcium nitrate which also had a pH of 5 and a brick red flame test color. Introduction There was an unidentified white compound found in the lab. The goal of the experiment was to identify what the unknown compound is and how to dispose of it safely. In order to find this information, the compounds chemical and physical properties needed to be determined. This was a given...

...revealed within this report and I will detail my scores for each area that is believed to be suffering. As everyone within this company is well aware we do not accept second best or strive to meet average. We strive for excellence and we usually achieve this. In summary, my research concluded that we do not need to change a lot within this franchise. This store is flowing very well and the customers seem very happy. I did however see why there was reason to complain. At peak times our staff seems demanding and pushy, although they are just trying to achieve good work flow and speed. They tend to demand the customer orders quickly and do not pay enough attention to ones order because of they are thinking about the next order. The other issue of cleanliness is basically a non-issue, the place is immaculate and in tip top shape. Of course, I went to this site unannounced so they had no time to clean the place and I must say it looked very clean. To understand more of the problems and my suggestions please read on. Contents Executive Summary 2 Introduction 3 Complaints 3 Cleanliness 3 Service 4 Statistics 5 Complaints 5 Quality 5 Introduction Today, many organizations and employees are experiencing the complaints of service, quality and cleanliness. These complaints can lead us to believe that our company is not performing to its optimum level. We do not know the full extent of the problems until we investigate the complaints ourselves. Throughout this report we will identify...
