In the year of 1954, Paramount Pictures produced a revolutionary film that enhanced the way people view life. This film is widely known today as Forrest Gump. This film has taught many individuals world wide that life is capable of dealing one many challenges and obstacles. With-in this film they portray this by the use of the common house-hold phrase, “Life is a box of chocolates.” Throughout the film, many symbols are commonly displayed. The importance of these symbols is that they can transmit meanings without directly saying them. Paramount Pictures accomplishes this by: Forrest overcoming his disability, joining the army, and carrying on the shrimp business. In the beginning, Forrest is faced with a daunting challenge due to his disability. This restricted him from achieving many of his goals until one afternoon as Jenny and him were walking down a deserted dirt road and were confronted by a group of rowdy young boys on their bicycles. As the immature boys teased Forrest, due to his disability, they soon proceeded to chase Forrest down the never-ending dirt road. As forrest was attempting to evade the bullies Jenny screamed “Run Forrest! Run!” He then over-powered the contraption, that provided stability for his weak legs, and took off in a full-on sprint. Forrest displayed great perseverance by consistently running down the dirt road and escaping the bullies. He proved that he never gives up and can overcome anything in life. Later on in life, Forrest decided to join the army after graduating college to pursue a major goal in his life. He went on to fight wars for his country. On his journey, he met one of his best friends named Bubba, whom Forrest fought along side with in the wars. Bubba told Forrest a story on his family history of being in the shrimp business. Bubba then asked Forrest one day “"You ever been on a real shrimp boat? Forrest Gump: No - but I been on a real big boat?” He soon after convinced Forrest to help pursue his dream with-in the shrimp business as soon as they return from deployment. While fighting these hard long wars beside each other, Bubba suffered a serious injury. Soon after, Forrest lost Bubba due to his injuries. After the service that Forrest provided for the army, he decided to pursue his best friends dream of starting a shrimp business. As Forrest promised Bubba that he would carry on his “shrimp business” idea , he stayed committed to his long lost buddy. Forrest then bought a boat and decided to start the business. We knew that Bubba was watching over Forrest as he took on the business because one night at sea, a huge storm had struck. The storm blew out all of the shrimp boats besides Forrest’s boat. Forrest was now succeeding above all of his competitors as a result of this storm. During this time, when Forrest felt as if Bubba was with him, he remembered something Bubba had told him. Bubba quoted,“What you do is you just drag your nets along the bottom. On a good day, you can catch over a hundred pounds of shrimp. If everything goes all right, two men shrimpin' ten hours, less what you spends on gas, you can…” Throughout life, you go through a box of chocolates, each chocolate representing something you have to get through. In Forrest’s case, each chocolate is a different obstacle he overcame. Forrest symbolized this in a many of ways. He first overcame his disability as a little kid, second he joined the army, and last he pursued his best friends dream. We all have learned no matter the difficulty of the obstacle, you can always accomplish it if you put your mind to it. Forrest’s often said “My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.”

Forrest Gump: a Tear Jerking Movie Experience

...Forrest Gump: A Tear Jerking Movie Experience Erica Charisse B.Romero 9-Emerald Submitted to Sir. Julhamin Cernal March 4,201 In the movie, Forrest Gump started off having both physical and mental disabilities. His mother taught him things like he is no different than anyone else, which helped him carry that thought along his journey. Then she met Jenny her friend and love of her life, which also became an inspiration to him despite her trying to avoid Forrest. Forrest Gump showed in the movie that your inspirations in life can help you succeed. Despite being physically challenged at first and mentally, he later on became a successful person. Success is not measured in the person’s background, it is in their capability whether they are willing to take the risk and go beyond their own limits. Forrest is a person, who did not expect great things will happen in his life, but time sure will fly and soon, change will come to him. Forrest Gump became a part of the military, and throughout his combat in the Vietnam War, there wasn’t a time when he wasn’t thinking about Jenny. He even followed what Jenny told him, that he should just run and run. Forrest did not forget what Jenny thought him, so he did his best and helped everyone as possible. But tragically, he wasn’t able to save Bubba; his only friend in the military. That hit my heart as they talked normally to each other as Bubba was about to die. Forrest later on became a shrimp boat captain due to his promise to Bubba...

Forest Gump

...My favorite film "Forrest Gump" Almost everybody likes to watch movies and we have seen a lot of them. Some of them are better than others. Sometimes people have different opinions whether a particular movie is good or not. The movie I like the most is a story about mentally deficient man. The whole picture is funny, moving and we see a great performance by actors and actresses. Therefore my favorite movie is "Forrest Gump" by Robert Zemeckis. The movie is full of very funny dialogues and situations. It's a good quality humor though. We have many chances to laugh at innocence and the naivety of Forrest. I find that kind of humor very interesting and the whole movie is really funny. "Forrest Gump" is a very moving story. It shows that it's possible to enjoy life without being stingy, materialistic or ruthless. It helps us to realize that there are many people among us that were born with various defects. That fact makes me think how fortunate I am to be totally healthy. The movie contains also a love story. It's a dramatic plot because Forrest loves a girl who doesn't think of him as a serious partner because of his defect. However they eventually get married. Although she passes away due to a fatal disease. Moreover we see love between mother and son where Forest's mom even slept with the school principal in order to give the son a chance of going to a normal school. All those things make me think of this movie as of a very moving story. We see very good performance by Tom...

...What quotes is meaningful: Forrest Gump: Will you marry me? Forrest Gump: I'd make a good husband, Jenny. Jenny Curran: You would, Forrest. Forrest Gump: But you won't marry me. Jenny Curran: You don't wanna marry me. Forrest Gump: Why don't you love me, Jenny? I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is. Forrest Gump: My momma always said, "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." By chance he was a college football star. By chance he was a ping pong champion, a Vietnam War hero, a shrimp boat Captain phenom because a hurricane took out every other boat in the area. This made for an amazing adventure through the life of someone who was so pure, so innocent, he couldn't hurt a fly. * It's the ultimate underdog story.  Here we have this simple-minded character who was born with this inescapable handicap of sorts, and he manages to get the cute (but troubled) girl, become an All Star college athlete, attain medals of valor, become an international ping pong star of all things, turn a dream into a multimillion dollar business, become a pop culture icon by simply just running, and then he meets his child who happens to be the smartest boy in his class.  Wow. * It's a story of Americana.  The film is a virtual history lesson of our country, at least in the broad strokes.  We see our country evolve through the eyes of this character.  We are implanted into historical and pop culture moments through the eyes of this character...

...The movie Forrest Gump was released in 1994 and directed by Robert Zemeckis. The production designer was Rick Carter who is also an art director. The film also earned Mr. Carter an Oscar nomination, as well as other numerous nominations. Most of which were earned while working on the films of Amistad and A.I. The art directors mentioned were William James Teegarden, and Leslie McDonald. As far as the lighting goes for the film, a satellite was actually used to determine the position of the sun for the best picture when the film was shot outdoors. Most of the lighting of the film was bright and cheery. This type of lighting would be known as high-key lighting. This is to keep the audience in a good sense of optimism throughout the film; it caused you to pay attention to the details. When films are shot with a dim light or back light it causes a more dramatic affect to give the audience that type of feeling. Costumes are used as a tool to tell part of the story of what is going on in the movie. For instance if a man were wearing dirty garments and was full of filth obviously in a film he could be construed as being “low class”. The same goes for makeup and hair styling no matter how subtle they may be. The costumes tell about the era and the social class of the individuals in the movie. The film is shot to depict the time of late fifties through the sixties and seventies. A time when Vietnam was going on and hippies had a major impact over the minds of many. It tells...

...Forrest Gump: Management Accounting at the Movies Hollywood accounting can be every bit as creative as a good movie script. At least, that is what some lawyers and journalists seem to be telling us. According to news reports, the hit movie Forrest Gump, which won “Best Picture of 1994” honors at the Academy Awards, claimed a worldwide theatrical gross of $661 million through May of 1995. That amount excludes videocassette and soundtrack revenues, and it doesn’t include licensing fees of Forrest Gump products such as wristwatches, ping-pong paddles and shrimp cookbooks. Yet, according to Paramount Studios, the film project lost $56 million dollars on a box office gross of $382 million through December, 1994 (see Exhibit 1). Forrest Gump is the latest of a string of hit movies to report a loss. Other losers include Batman, Rain Man, Dick Tracy, Ghostbusters, Alien, On Golden Pond, Fatal Attraction, and Coming to America. Each of these motion pictures grossed well over $100 million, but in each case, costs were reportedly greater than revenues. The production costs for a film, part of what the studios refer to as “negative costs”, represents only part of the cost of the project. In addition, studios add promotion and distribution costs, advertising overhead, and distribution fees to the total negative costs to get the total cost of the project. A significant portion of the negative costs is the payments made to “gross participants” on the basis of a percentage of...

...1 3/4/11 Forrest Gump Essay The character of Forrest Gump is one of the most beloved characters in movie history; the relationships are symbolic to our relationships in our everyday lives with people around us. The things he says have stuck with us even after we have seen the film. Momma, Jenny, Lt. Dan, and Bubba are just people that we love; these people make us who we are Momma Gump was the foundation for everything Forrest was in the movie. The way that momma interacted with Forrest is to encourage him, and reassure him that he was like everyone else. Even when unknown people on the street stared at the strange little boy with braces on his feet she made sure that Forrest knew that he was special. This was how he benefitted from his relationship with his mother. Momma on the other hand got the benefit of seeing Forrest amount to everything and more than what she imagined for her son. When the local school rejected him for a “special” school she would not take no for an answer, in these kinds of conflicts she fought for her son. Close to the end of the movie when Momma was on her dead bed she once again reassured Forrest that he was her special son.”Death is just a part of life. It’s just something we’re all destined to do, I didn’t know it but I was destined to be your momma, I did the best I could. “ Lt. Dan was a most peculiar character; he was Forrest’s Staff sergeant in Vietnam. He was dirty, and he cussed a lot. Since Lt. Dan was Forrest superior Dan communicated...

Any attempt to describe him will risk making the movie seem more conventional than it is, but let me try. It's a comedy, I guess. Or maybe a drama. Or a dream. The screenplay by Eric Roth has the complexity of modern fiction, not the formulas of modern movies. Its hero, played by Tom Hanks, is a thoroughly decent man with an IQ of 75, who manages between the 1950s and the 1980s to become involved in every major event in American history. And he survives them all with only honesty and niceness as his shields...
