The knowledge of the foundations and history helps us to appreciate nurse practice to what it has evolved today, which thus gives us room for improvement to build our professional identity and for a better future for our profession and for the community that we cater to.

The three trends that in nursing history time line which has changed my perspective of nursing practice are as follows:-1. Florence Nightingale was the mother of modern nursing and she helped to improve and sanitation of the military hospitals and by research of communicable diseases, helped to prevent infection. For the several years many hospitals have introduces the hand washing policy , in which the each hospital personal washes their hands before entering and exiting patient’s room and, between patients . Also the use of PPE to prevent infection. All the hospital personnel are to be up to date in their immunization for example, flu, TDAP.

2- The movement from the male dominated, religious caregivers and women of bad reputation to care for the sick. Florence Nightingale set up an example that caring for the sick was not the job of a lowly person, but a dignified job and helped to develop as profession and provided foundation for the further growth of the nursing, thus by enriching our knowledge and studying further like BSN, they become better care givers and thus help to improve health care outcome.
