...Frame Relay Migration to MPLS Frame Relay is a standardized wide area network technology that specifies the physical and logical link layers of digital telecommunications channels using a packet switching methodology. Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a mechanism in high-performance telecommunications networks that directs data from one network node to the next based on short path labels rather than long network addresses, avoiding complex lookups in a routing table. Frame Relay aimed to make more efficient use of existing physical resources as clients were unlikely to be utilizing a data service 100 percent of the time. In more recent years, Frame Relay has acquired a bad reputation in some markets because of excessive bandwidth overbooking by these telcos. Telcos often sell Frame Relay to businesses looking for a cheaper alternative to dedicated lines; its use in different geographic areas depended greatly on governmental and telecommunication companies' policies. Many customers are likely to migrate from Frame Relay to MPLS over IP or Ethernet within the next two years, which in many cases will reduce costs and improve manageability and performance of their wide area networks. Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) enables Enterprises and Service Providers to build next-generation intelligent networks that deliver a wide variety of advanced, value-added services over a single infrastructure. This economical solution can be integrated seamlessly over any existing infrastructure...

In the technology realm of an organization, reduction of costs can be achieved by streamlining processes and automation. Another option that can be explored within organizations to reduce costs is the outsourcing of their technology departments to a manage service provider. Organizations are looking into options to utilize technology to reduce costs by migrating their technology to a 3rd party to managed their infrastructure. Permission is granted to print and copy this document for non-commercial distribution and exclusive use by instructors in the CCNP TSHOOT course as part of an official Cisco Networking Academy Program. CCNPv6 ROUTE Chapter 1 Lab 1-1, Tcl Script Reference and Demonstration Instructor Version Topology Objectives • • Use Tcl scripts to verify full connectivity. Identify causes of failures. Background The Cisco IOS Scripting feature provides the ability to run Tool Command Language (Tcl) commands from the Cisco IOS command-line interface (CLI). Tcl scripts can be created to accomplish routine and repetitive functions with Cisco IOS-based networking devices. In this lab, you create and execute a Tcl script that sends pings to multiple IP addresses in the network to test overall network connectivity. Note: Cisco IOS Release 12.3(2)T and later supports Tcl scripting. Required Resources • • 2 routers (Cisco 1841 with Cisco IOS Release 12.4(24)T1 Advanced IP Service or comparable) Serial and console cables Note: This lab uses Cisco 1841 routers with Cisco IOS Release 12.4(24)T1 and the advanced IP image c1841-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T1.bin. Other routers (such as a 2801 or 2811) and Cisco IOS Software versions can be used if they have comparable capabilities and features. Depending on the router model and Cisco IOS Software version, the commands available and output...

...Cisco Network Solutions for the Telco DCN: SONET/SDH OSI Environments This document is directed to competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs), incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs), and Post, Telephone and Telegraphs (PTTs), collectively referred to as telcos (short for telephone companies). This document describes Cisco network solutions for transporting data between Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) and the Operations Support System (OSS) in a telco data communications network (DCN). The DCN transports network management traffic between network elements and their respective OSS, making them a vital link between the service network and the network operations center (NOC). The solutions presented in this document will help telcos connect their SONET/SDH network elements to a router-based network using the Open System Interconnection (OSI) protocol, which simplifies the DCN and reduces equipment costs.
